Feb 20, 2012Carelessly put together, Paper Airplane Chase is not worth your money--or, most important in this case, your time.
The Good: Local multiplayer using a single game system can be funny.
The Bad: Plain lazy production.
Paper Airplane Chase first appeared as a minigame inside WarioWare, Inc. on GBA and it has been updated to become a standalone downloadable game for the DSiWare service. But as an update it hasn't that much to offer, not due to a lack of variety in gameplay modes (Endless, Time Attack and Multiplayer would be fair enough for a cheap, tiny download) but in fact because of some lazy and somewhat careless execution.
The main problem here--and it spills over the entire game--lies within the controls. Although the intention was clearly to make the gameplay flow like a breeze (no pun intended) it turned to be an oversensitive scheme because of the way-too-straight courses available--aligning your plane for a long descent by quickly tapping the D-pad under such circumstances can be a pain since you're likely to smash yourself into a wall at ease.
The Multiplayer mode could be at least a funny mess (you can't be more "local" than this: two players share THE SAME DS, one on the D-Pad and the other using the ABXY buttons) if it wasn't for the aforementioned controls problems. And Time Attack is just plain lazy since the records to be beaten were all randomly set to 1 minute, regardless of the course's difficult/length.
My final word would be Paper Airplane Chase is not worth your time and little ($1.99) money. There are plenty other little browser games more engaging and interesting than this one out there--and most of them can be played for free.… Full Review »
MattNJul 21, 2009Very awesome game. When I first got my DSi I couldn't believe they ported my favorite game from WarioWare ever to the DSi store. It really was a no-brainer with those 1000 DSi points.… Full Review »
TheJamApr 24, 2009How dare Eurogamer say that about Paper Plane? Well, OK, yes, it is a bit of a flash game that costs a bit, but when it's THIS addictive that's only a small price to pay. This is the future of handheld games; to go backwards!… Full Review »
