  1. The Simpsons Game for the DS may not be innovative nor appealing to worldwide mainstream audiences - you really do need to be a fan of the show to appreciate what’s been done here – but it’s a highly creative production nonetheless.
  2. The Simpsons Game for the DS might not look quite as visually impressive as its counterparts on the bigger consoles, but it offers many hours of fun, and - as already mentioned - is worth buying simply for the lovingly crafted Simpsons cut-scenes.
  3. AceGamez
The platforming side is mostly fun with only a handful of irritating sections that are a challenge to complete, and while the difficulty is refreshing, at choice points it borders on the frustrating due to a dodgy combat system and the annoying absence of a compensating gap between the action as you move from bottom screen to top screen.
  4. Humorously spoofing some classic games throughout the experience, the game has a lot to offer gamers even though the main game is really short.
  5. 77
Though much of what makes it good has been lifted from the console renditions (script, level ideas, voice-over), the DS developers give the handheld gamers a unique gameplay experience.
  6. In the end, what you are presented with is a very solid Simpsons title. Its humor, as stated, goes beyond just pleasing regular and hardcore Simpsons fans. So aside from the camera, the game is just find-diddly-ine to go on out and pick up.
  7. Though brief, The Simpsons Game on the DS satisfies from start to finish.
  8. 75
Whether it's playing through a level that's obviously a rip-off of Gauntlet, the inclusion of a double jump, pits that cause instant death, or enemies who resemble some of the most memorable characters in gaming, The Simpsons Game takes 2D platforming, points out its clichés, and then uses them anyways.
  9. Very colorful and detailed levels plus very interesting cut scenes between levels.
  10. A solid gaming experience. Platformers may be an overdone genre of games, but The Simpsons Game does a decent job of providing a good game, while not necessarily an innovative one.

A classic example of style over substance.
  12. Games Master UK
Follows the template of the console versions to produce a competent 2D platformer. [Feb 2008, p.78]
  13. We loved the game's self referential tone at times, but calling itself out on its own tired shortcomings can't really save the gameplay.
  14. 60
If you're looking for a quality platformer on the DS, there are plenty of better choices out there. If you're looking for a funny game, however, The Simpsons Game ranks near the top of the list.
  15. It's relatively entertaining but more as a result of its set-pieces, one-liners and occasional clever detail than its gameplay, which is uninspired.
  16. If you want a laugh, the show's a much better bet, and if you want to play a decent platformer you might as well dust off NEW Super Mario Bros.
  17. Remove the excellent presentation and engaging audio, and you have a video game that is not fit for purpose.

The only complaint is that it is short. You would win 4 hours of gameplay until you finish it. Pet Homer was a great feature. Plus, it made fun of all the cliches around that time. Full Review »

This review contains spoilers, click full review link to view. So it's time for another terrible Simpsons game. But does it do better in the modern age compared to their 8-bit counterparts? This is my review of The Simpsons Game for the Nintendo DS. STORY: Prepare for ALOT of fourth-wall breaking. One day, the lovable Bart Simpson finds an instruction manual for this very game. The manual tells the Simpsons family how to use video game powers. Using these powers, they have to save the town from an alien invasion. The story may not be original, but using this story, the game sure is damn funny. (9) PRESENTATION: One of the problems with this game is that it doesn't know what kind of game it wants to be. It goes from platformer, to sidescroller, to pet sim. It just feels like a giant mess. That aside, this game is goddamn hilarious! The script is amazing. The game also uses 3D cutscenes. I'm not sure why though, but it looks nice for the DS. (7) GAMEPLAY: Surprisingly, the game actually controls pretty well! Each of the members of the Simpsons family has their own unique powers. Homer can float. Bart can glide. Lisa can move objects. And Marge can guide a mob to destroy things. It all blends together pretty well. (8) FINAL LEVEL (SPOILERS!): There is only one person left for the Simpsons to turn to, to save Springfield: God. So they head up to heaven. There, they find the angels of all of the enemies that they've fought throughout the game. So you have a mixed blend of enemies. In the level, there are four sections each using a different Simpson's powers. Overall, the level is pretty easy, that is, except for the final boss. The final boss is an ignorant God who is addicted to playing his DS. The battle would be easier if you didn't have random crap and enemies flying at you from every direction. When you beat God, he reveals that he's been addicted to a sim game. Then it shows Ralph playing the game on his Xbox 360. The little joke at the end is admittedly worth it, as stupid as that sounds. (7) COMPLETION BONUS: When you get the TONS of collectibles hidden in the game, you obtain many items to use in a sim called Pet Homer. Pet Homer is hilarious to play, but considering I had to beat the extremely hard Matt Groening's mansion THREE times, it's not that worth it. (6) Overall, The Simpson's Game isn't as fun as, say, Simpson's Hit and Run. But, if you're a Simpsons fan, I'd pick this up. Full Review »
