It's a game that's chock full of instant gratification but not much else. The design's all about exploiting the combo system, but it never really offers much in the way of a challenge.

Trioncube’s mesmerisingly spartan yet compulsive gameplay, married to the charming presentation, indelible soundtrack and reward trail, often confect to make this feel like a honeyed breath of fresh air. [JPN Import]
  3. It’s all so utterly forgettable so, I guess, just forget it.
  4. AceGamez
I'll give Trioncube mucho credit for its originality and quirkiness, but on a handheld with so many great puzzle games already available, the shallow gameplay and limited challenge are tough to accept with any overwhelming enthusiasm.
  5. Hardcore puzzle fans will be disappointed with Trioncube's lack of depth. But if all you're looking for is a quick, pick-up-and-play puzzle experience here and there, it's still worth the budget price.
  6. Edge Magazine
Without the challenge and cruelty that can make a classic, the results here are likeable, confident, and nowhere near essential. [Mar 2007, p.86]
  7. Fairly dull - a sensation that the "zany" presentation usually accentuates. The Vs. mode makes up for it slightly, as you try and outpace your friend, but even then it's hardly essential, despite a single-cart download-play option.
  8. games(TM)
Trioncube manages to remain inoffensive at best and is a title we can add to a growing list of Nintendo DS puzzle games that are enjoyable but far from essential. [Aug 2007, p.125]
  9. A very short-term diversion, Trioncube is for rare puzzle game fans who don't crave a challenge.
  10. Trioncube’s cute charm and interesting spin on Tetris is fun for a while until the cuteness factor and fun starts to ware.
  11. Trioncube is a fun and quirky little puzzle game that would have worked just as well on the GBA.
  12. Merely an average, if not unchallenging puzzle game, there is no gaming addiction to be found here, the strange storyline, multiplayer capability and wacky sounds barely buoy this title into a passable grade.
  13. Puzzle gaming has had a number of complex entries recently, and this isn’t one of them. It is, however, a fun diversion for about an hour.
  14. If you are looking for a new puzzle game so you can enjoy the addictive and mindless gameplay for hours, killing time while you're on the road or spending some time at your grandma's house, Trioncube might do the trick, but there are other puzzle games out there that deserve more attention, like Super Puzzle Fighter, Columns, Meteos or just the old, but never boring Tetris.

A good game, but is far too easy for it's own good. With wacky characters, a catchy concept and entertaining facets to unlock, Trioncube attempts to do something new for gamers who like to puzzle with blocks, but ends up falling a bit short simply due to the lack of challenge.
  16. Games Master UK
An entertaining, mildly addictive, if not innovative puzzler. [Aug 2007, p.85]
  17. Official Nintendo Magazine UK
A nice puzzle game that you can play for a couple of hours but it soon becomes a chore. [Aug 2007, p.86]
  18. Nintendo Power
The alternate name for falling-piece puzzler Trioncube could be My First Tetris. [Mar. 2007, p.89]
  19. A cute story mode isn't enough to compensate for Trioncube's unoriginal and incredibly easy take on the Tetris formula.
  20. If you can't get into the simple gameplay, no matter how cute, then Trioncube is not for you, although one cannot reasonably expect this title to last for much more than a few days of serious play.
  21. Too simplistic and too simple to even be worth the budget $20 price.
  22. The DS simply doesn’t need games like this, especially with no touch-screen control.
  23. 50
Trioncube doesn't offer much for a puzzle game. There's little depth or difficulty to be found, and while the odd story is surprisingly entertaining, it isn't enough to keep you playing for long.
