  • Summary: WWE SmackDown! vs. Raw 2008 lets players take the fight into their own hands with the debut of Superstar Fighting Styles. The game features eight unique styles, each having its own strategy and exclusive attributes. A brand new Struggle Submission System gives players intuitive and natural control over their WWE Superstars by using the game's popular analog controls. Realism and strategy are at the forefront, as players now control the amount of pressure they apply to their opponents. In addition, WWE SmackDown! vs. Raw 2008 features a significant Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW) presence, including a variety of Superstars, arenas and weapons. The game is also packed with significant updates requested by fans, including new rosters, more environmental hotspots, a combined Season and General Manager Mode experience, improved out-of-ring action, enhanced online community support and much more. The Nintendo DS version of the video game offers a unique game play experience, including touch screen control over Superstars, situation-based fighting with unique holds and a full year of nonstop action in WWE Season Mode. 1. If you want something new from your WWE license then the Nintendo DS is your vice. Smackdown vs. Raw on the Nintendo DS can also complements the console version with its strategy approach to wrestling.
  2. With inventive use of the touch screen, the action is hard-hitting but the moves are not as diverse as other versions of this game. It’s still a game well worth playing if you own a Nintendo DS or love WWE wrestling.
  3. 70
While most licenses end up shoveling an uninspired wreck of an experience onto handhelds, it’s nice to see Amaze and THQ team up to deliver a truly innovative and entertaining wrestling experience on DS that’s anything but ordinary.
  4. 60
It's not necessarily the best wrestling game put out by THQ this year, but it's easily the most innovative.
  5. Full marks for ingenuity but it is not the impressive in action. [Christmas 2007, p.61]
  6. A fun control concept only works when the rest of the game works, too. Unfortunately, WWE Smackdown vs. RAW 2008 featuring ECW for the NDS demonstrates this all too effectively, resulting in the weakest iteration of the series in quite a while.
  7. This just doesn't cut it. The game starts off from a decent control scheme to grab you attention, but doesn't deliver a real game. It delivers the kind of horrid port you used to see on the original Game Boy.
