Simplistic but amusing; one only for the targeted age group. [Christmas 2008, p.84]

An often charming adventure for the CBBC crowd but too flaccid a storyline with too infuriating a score for the rest of us. [Dec 2008, p.75]
  3. An outstandingly realized rhythm-based battle system housed in an average adventure, all wrapped up in gorgeous visuals.

Zubo is an entertaining rhythm-based game that manages to fuse several genres in an intelligent way whilst maintaining an easy to play approach. It is an ideal game to start with for youngsters who want to try a role playing game whilst at the same time there is just enough within to keep the rest of us adults playing it.
  5. Zubo is an interesting gem from EA that is neither tied to a recognizable license or a sequel of an existing game.

While there's depth in the action there's not a lot in the single section to keep your attention for more than an hour or so in one sitting.
  7. When all is said and done, Zubo is a nice effort by EA Bright Light to appeal to a younger demographic while still providing an experienced that isn't dumbed-down. This makes it perfect for an aspiring gamer. That being said, the title isn't complex enough to truly appeal to people outside of the intended audience.

Zubo is simply too long, too meandering, and doesn't have any spirit - lifeless jokes and boring enemies turn a promising game into an elaborate chore. [Apr 2009, p.87]
  9. Zubo is a turn based roleplaying game with music as it's theme. Although overly easy and child friendly it still offers a fun experience even for the seasoned gamers. As a quick and easy piece of entertainment, Zubo does deliver.

This is the first turned based RPG that a 7 year old can properly play since Pokemon. There are over 50 Zubos you can collect and each with their own set of attacks broken into 3 basic archetypes. You are allowed to bring 3 Zubos into every battle so it's easy to make sure you have a good mix of strategic possibilities to fit the situation. Battles in Zubo are a good mix of turn based strategy and rhythm based gameplay that are at once entertaining and simplistic enough for younger kids to fully grasp and enjoy. An abundance of humor permeates the game in both the story and in many of the actual moves you pull of in battles. The game is definitely cute and funny enough to get tons of chuckles out of adults and kids alike. The game looks great on the DS with a nice 3D overhead view for adventuring and sharp cinematic camera for the battles. Terrific art and animation bring the quirky world of Zubo to life with great style. while the sound and music fit the visuals perfectly. It is a long game (as is the case with the majority of turn based RPGs) but the constant collecting of Zubos make it an interesting and enjoyable experience throughout it's entirety. I highly recommend this game......it's a BLAST! Full Review »

I 'd call it a music rpg and not only for the younger ones. It 's just so funny to hit the screen in rhythmic way and beat the opponent! The environment, graphics, music are of a very high grade!
