  • Summary: Danger is the name of the game in 1080- Avalanche. Huge air, massive drop-offs, deep powder, and the nastiest tricks come together in one package. It's a frantic race to the bottom of the mountain, so stick tricks on the way down to increase your rider's speed and power. Keep your eyes peeled for shortcuts, rockslides, natural wildlife, dizzying drops, and sudden weather changes. The successor to the Nintendo 64 version of the game, 1080- Avalanche offers a wide variety of play modes, challenges, and secrets to keep you on your toes. Expand

  1. There's just no way to put it except to say that it's quite possibly the ultimate rush. [Jan 2004, p.58]
  2. As revolutionary as "SSX" was, now 1080: Avalanche is the one that hits the slopes with style and innovation. The extreme-survival angle puts the edge back in snowboarding. [Jan 2004, p.155]
  3. Even great visuals and sound can’t save a game from the dual curse of poor game control and little replay value.

Too short, too straightforward, and too limited to recommend to all but the staunchest snowboarding aficionados. The game can be beaten in two hours on your first go. [Jan 2003, p.49]

This game is still the number 1 snowboarding game! I just bought SSX Blur for the Wii and my god it's so damn slow compared to 1080. So I sold it and am just playing 1080 Avalanche on my Wii instead. It's so much better and much more realistic. The sense of speed makes the game a real rush. I just couldn't stand how slow SSX is not to mention the real bouncy feel when turning. If you have a Wii get 1080 Avalanche now! Expand

I LOVE this game! It is probably the best snow boarding game in the century! It beats SSX by a mile! If your looking for a challenging, action packed game......this is the game for you. The music choice is great, it had me singin' along! The Graphics are fantastic and the details of the game characters made me wonder if these people where real boarders? (Ricky is my favorite). Simply put: 1080 is far too easy and way too short. It can be beaten in two, maybe three hours. This is definitely a rental. SSX3, on the other hand, will last you at least several weeks. Collapse
