For V3, the player models have photorealistic heads and faces - you can actually see facial details and markings. The development team even incorporated cloth animations. [Feb 2005, p.75]
  2. The pinnacle of virtual basketball.
  3. Easily one of the best sports titles that have come along recently. The expansive and highly replayable Street Challenge mode can absorb gamers for months, and the level of customization is truly massive.
  4. One of the most fun games you'll find for current-generation consoles.

From bouncing the ball off your opponent's noggin to draining a game-winning three, there is just so much opportunity to talk smack, to compete, and best of all, humiliate your friends by dunking on their heads, that I think this is a must-buy for gamers looking for a fun basketball game without having to worry about the differences between a Triangle and a Box formation.
  6. The new gameplay tweaks work better than imagined, and the extensive serving of play modes and creative toolsets make this game a slam-dunk purchase for any and every basketball fan alive.
  7. The customization elements are supreme, with a bevy of new ways to create a character and your very own court, and the new control elements work very well.
  8. The new king of the court as far as arcade basketball games go.
  9. It has the looks, it has the thrills and holds an undeniable charm. If you're sick of not flying 1100 feet in the air and feel embarrassing posers who bring it weak to your home court, pick this one up.
  10. Honestly, this dunk contest is the most fun I have had with this style mode since "Jordan vs. Bird."
  11. The additions that have been made to streamline the control and beef up the single player experience are simply the best improvements that could have been made without totally reinventing the series (which, frankly, no one does for sequels anymore). The game can be repetitive, but the feeling may be inevitable for hardened veterans of the streetball circuit.

A truly remarkable game - not just the best basketball game ever, but also one of the best games around at the moment full stop.
  13. Game Informer
On occasion, your CPU opponents will make some silly mistakes along the lines of using a GameBreaker to shoot a three-pointer during a dunk-only contest, but the AI is still mighty impressive. [March 2005, p.114]
  14. Cheat Code Central
What you do get is Mario, Luigi and Peach as playable characters and your own Mushroom Kingdom court to play on. This is a fun novelty but it begins and ends there. Novelty. These characters just don't fit in a basketball game and their appearance is somewhat unsettling.

From the new Trick Stick system to the amazingly deep career mode, nearly everything added to NBA Street V3 works perfectly... [T]his may very well be the greatest basketball game ever made, arcade or otherwise.
  16. The lengthy and replayable Street Challenge mode, multiplayer options, and abundant customization settings make NBA Street V3 a fulfilling package for anyone even slightly interested in basketball (and not completely put off by the hip-hop vibe).

No other version allows you to swat the rock off Shaq with Princess Peach the way the GC iteration does. Whether this is 1) cool, or 2) a joke to you is a matter of preference, but it's worth keeping in mind if you have younger, or more open-minded gamers in your den.
  18. Even without the online element, Street v3 is still excellence personified.
  19. The stick is a more intuitive type of control system, which can only benefit to the flow of the game. It improves the possibilities of your character considerably.

Playing this hyperactive hoops sim is like fast-forwarding your way through a Spike Lee–directed Nike commercial while beer-bonging a liter of Jolt cola.

Adding new features such as the Street Challenge and Dunk Contest, NBA Street V3 is admittedly one of the best street sports games ever created.
  22. The Trick Stick by itself enhances the gameplay to a higher level, and the bulking-up of the Street Challenge mode is certainly going to keep solo players busy, along with messing around with extra characters.
  23. The right stick controls also take a lot of the learning curve out of Street that made the first ones so hard to learn.
  24. It's playing solo that puts this one over the top. Creating a custom hoopster and earning respect never feels repetitive. [March 2005, p.116]
  25. Easily the best arcade basketball game I've played in years, but the requisite 14 fingers needed to play it is a bit ridiculous.
  26. A great sports game and a betterment of its previous installments. If you're a fan, this is a no-brainer purchase.
  27. This game not only has an incredible control scheme, but it has so many extras that you probably won't even have to update until V5. Whichever way you look at it, NBA Street V3 is the new pinnacle of the NBA games and is much more fun than any other basketball game in existence--including "NBA Jam."
  28. One of the best arcade sports titles to release. Ever.
  29. Fun and accessibility are the most important factors for a game of this class, and the solid implementation of the new Trick Stick makes NBA Street V3 one of the most entertaining, broadly playable basketball games ever made.
  30. Why play complicated b-ball when games like V3 utilize the basics so magnificently well?
  31. 80
With all the attention given over to the performance and presentation, it's a shame that V3 features such lame audio.
  32. 80
Of all the enhancements made in NBA Street V3, it would be remiss of us not to mention the visuals, which have moved away from exaggerated, cartoon-like players to a grittier, realistic look that better suits the game's urban theme.
  33. But where this latest instalment excels is in enhanced options and customisation for serious fans, while still offering pick-up-and-play access for those after a quick sporting fix.
  34. Nintendo Power
Shines as a multiplayer game, but can be pretty tedious if you're going it alone. [Apr 2005, p.98]
  35. Luigi seems even floatier, and embarrassed head-shaking ensues when you see Princess Peach throwing shapes like a bad-ass Crip from the Wes' side. Ooh, where's she hiding the Glock?... NBA Street V3 is superfluous and expensive.
  36. After a couple of games in NBA Street V3, you may well be ready to hit the showers. Unless you're hardcore about basketball, it's hard to imagine that you'll feel much different.

Its so boring... 3 on 3 sucks, the only good things, is being able to play mario, peach, and luigi, and the dunk contest. Which after one day Its so boring... 3 on 3 sucks, the only good things, is being able to play mario, peach, and luigi, and the dunk contest. Which after one day gets boring. Making your own character sucks! You have to where a jersey, you can't color anything, I heardly consider it customizing! The music has like 5 songs, and they are so dang annoying. The graphics are good, but the I almost lost my mind playing this game. Full Review »
