Feb 8, 201390A note on in-app purchases: the free, ad-supported version of Beastie Bay is robust and enjoyable and, as far as I can tell, in no way different than the paid version. $4.99 strips the game of advertisements and lets players use their iDevice's portrait mode. Portrait mode is, admittedly, the superior way to play Beastie Bay, but there's an inordinate amount of well-designed, well-executed fun to be had for free.

Feb 28, 201375The best parts of Beastie Bay make me wish it was exclusively a simulation; Kairosoft's fusion of creature collection and island simulation is charming, but shallow combat and repetition kill the desire to catch 'em all.

Feb 13, 201370Despite such signs of a changing market, Beastie Bay might not be the finest of titles from the developer but there’s still satisfaction to be had, once fully understood, although don’t expect to be able to play across multiple devices as there’s still, oddly, no iCloud save support.

Feb 18, 201360Beastie Bay is a decent Pokemon-like layered on top of familiar Kairosoft mechanics. While I pointed out many criticisms of the game, there is something gratifying about the simple progression and cheery nature of Beastie Bay. It falls short of the bar set by other serious monster catching titles, but the interaction between simulation and hunting is just enough to pull you through the game’s arc.
