  • Summary: Inertia: Escape Velocity is the first mobile game for touch devices from independent developer Red Fly Studio and will put players into Hermes’ anti-gravity boots. This physics-based platformer will present players with challenging levels to master using a unique anti-gravity mechanic - by manipulating gravity, navigating force fields, and overcoming other obstacles, players will help Hermes collect enough space debris to fix his ship. The small number of simple level elements like attractors and force fields are deployed so well that delightful things happen.

Most of the fun, therefore, comes from trying to gather each bit of scrap as quickly as possible, paying close attention to a board's layout and narrowly missing dangerous electric currents while crashing through force fields.

Overall, it's an app that you should consider. It's very much the same of what we've seen before, but in a sense it's something fresh. It's old goods served on a silver platter in that respect. When described in its most basic form, a platformer where you run around picking up bits of scrap with the ability to defy gravity, it doesn't sound much of a treat.

Inertia: Escape Velocity isn't quite like anything else you'll find in the App Store. It manages to take a fairly simple and familiar concept and craft an entirely new experience that's -generally- pretty fun and challenging, in spite of a couple of issues that keep it from being truly exceptional.

Replay value is decent if you want to attempt to earn all stars, and OpenFeint integration provides global leaderboards.

Inertia : Escape Velocity is a mixed bag of challenging gameplay somewhere between platforming, playing pinball and being frustrated over the controls.
