Star Battalion is a superior space shooter, with great gameplay mechanics but no online deathmatch mode.

Once again Gameloft have set a standard for future games to aspire to with Star Battalion's excellent space fighter combat and co-op multiplayer modes.

If you're a fan of big Space Operas and fancy blowing a fleet of enemies out of the sky in a dogfight then Star Battalion should be right up your street. It may not be the longest game in the world but it's certainly one of the most action packed and explosive games I've played in recent months and kept me entertained throughout.

Unfortunately, the game's tilt control scheme never felt quite right, so take that into consideration before jumping in expecting pure Star Fox-esque bliss.

Despite its great graphics and sounds, Star Battalion suffers from some annoying problems: the game is heavily scripted, the fights are a bit repetitive and there's a general lack of attention to detail.

I can only offer a very mild recommendation to fans of space shooters like Star Fox willing to overlook these things, but in the end, my frustration overtook my enthusiasm.

It borrows too heavily from films and similar games of the genre resulting in a hodgepodge of a storyline. Another 'attack of the clones' if you will!
