First off, The Croods is extremely slow to get going. Secondly, though Rovio has added a little bit of thought here, it's not sufficient to elevate The Croods above the overcrowded freemium building masses.
  2. Mar 19, 2013
It's tough not to be cynical when confronted by such an uninspired freemium town building sim such as this. It hardly uses the movie license well.
  3. Mar 18, 2013
In The Croods, there's very little to do except draw yourself inevitably towards the murky world of in-app purchases, and given the current climate and presumed audience for the game, that may not turn out to be the wisest move for Disney or Rovio.
  4. Mar 22, 2013
Ultimately, The Croods is a slow, mediocre game that doesn’t require you to do much beyond tap the screen on occasion. Only the littlest fans of the movie will get anything out of it—and you might want to turn off in-app purchases before you let them get too far.
  5. Mar 20, 2013
The Croods isn’t the kind of game you’d expect from a Rovio and DreamWorks partnership, and it fails to leverage the strengths of either while beckoning for your wallet.
  6. Mar 19, 2013
Whether the game is just poorly thought out or a cynical cash-grab to prey on children and their parents' wallets is debatable, but either way The Croods demands far too much time for too little reward to be worth a download.

Another village-building game. Outside of characters and some creature designs it doesn't really do much with the material from the fantastic family-movie. As always with these free-to-play village/town builders, you'll do a lot of waiting on timers. For whatever reason they just feel a lot slower than the average game of this type, making progress feel almost non-existant. Of course the game offers up micro-transactions to help speed things up, something you want to watch out for if you're thinking about downloading this for the young movie fans in your house.

However with little in the way of fan-service and snail paced progress, you're probably better off not considering this one at all. It's a rather dull use of the movie's name and just isn't much fun at all. Younger fans might get a kick out of it for a little bit, but they'll probably just ditch it quickly and get back to Angry Birds. It really is just a waste of time.
