The final version of Afterfall Reconquest Episode I isn't as bad as the Early Access one, but some major changes show a development process without a clear direction.
Game have unique B&W artstyle and I like it a lot. It's challenging, addicting and very promising for next episodes. It's not buggy and stable at 30fps. Very good approach to post-apocalyptic genre.
I love the post-apocalyptic genre an this game does the job well.
It employs a very original black&white graphic style, where only red is being distinguished. The comics-style cut scenes are awesome.
The story is not linear which makes the game a good value for its price.
However there are some cons as well, these include some grammar in dialouges, some bugs in the game and perhaps for some - no option to change the game visuals into color mode (unless you want to edit .ini file - it's possible).
As a fan of post-apo games I give 9, if I was not a fan of apocalypse perhaps I would give 7.
Some video games are really good. Some video games are really bad, so bad, that they become good, in some twisted way. At least those game are good at being bad.
Afterfall Reconquest is neither of the aforementioned types. This game is simply mediocre in every possible way. Afterfall Insanity wasn't so good as well but it did gave me some bizarre enjoyment and curiosity towards the sequel.
When I began playing this game I got the same feeling I got from Insanity, that it's basically a bad game, but being such a weirdness-lover as I am - I found it an oddly appealing experience.
Afterfall Insanity managed to keep that feeling up to its bitter end, while in Reconquest it simply faded away as quickly as it came.
It's not an actual "sequel" and it's very different from Insanity, almost completely. There's some potential in this game but it fails to shine just enough to make this game an enjoyable experience.
The music gets repetitive and annoying, such as the combat and gameplay.
The little voice-acting that exists in the game is usually horrible, and mediocre at best.
The story seems intriguing at first but becomes sloppy and clumsy towards the end.
The enemies are very few and alike, there's not much variety.
The graphics are supposedly unique but I got tired of them very soon, perhaps I would have enjoyed it if the other aspects of the game weren't so disappointing.
For some reason I can't even see this game in the steam store anymore, it magically disappeared from my region. Fortunately I'm not very intrigued by this series anymore and not really looking forwards to episode 2.
I got this game pretty cheap on a sale and sadly I wouldn't recommend it much even for free..
Hopefully future products of this company would be less disappointing and more polished, as both of its games seem to hold a lot of potential and yet fall flat on their face.
This game is crappy in it's current state. Also, it's current state will be it's 'forever state', since the Afterfall episodic series got discontinued after this title. The devs got a massive backlash from the early access user base when they changed the game from gritty to 'artistic B&W style' and refused to back down from it.
Speaking of the B&W shader stuff, it's really bad. Like, really, really bad. Like huge amounts of bad. Like really huge amounts of bad.
More likely the software house that developed this game was a bunch of rich kids who really didn't care if they messed up stuff 'cause they can always return to their rich parent's house.
Awful visuals, somewhat nice music, bad voice acting, mediocre animations and a story that could be interesting but it's now truncated: that's what you should expect from this game.
SummaryAfterfall: Reconquest is a story driven TPP action shooter, set in the post-apocalyptic Afterfall universe; a world slowly rising from the ruins of the old civilization. It will consist of nine episodes, each focusing on different, yet overlapping scenarios.
