The second part of epic space stratagy that has reclaimed my belief in a good warhammer 40k game. More ships, bigger fleet, some interesting tweaks here and there - this is all what a good sequel **** game needs.
So...
FIRE ALL WEAPONS!!! LAUNCH ASSAULT TORPEDOES!!!! THIS IS THE DAY WE’VE BEEN WAITING FOR!!!
VENGEANCE!
FOR!
SANGUINIUS!
BLOOD FOR THE GREAT ANGEL!
For me this is one of the best 40k video games ever right up there with DOW 1 & 2.
This game has basically the same engin as the first BFG but with tons of extra content a, great campaign, tons of factions.
I love it!
While Armada isn’t big on scale, it is big on fun. It is one of the rare good entries of Games Workshop’s liberally licensed universe, and as such, it is a must-try for any fan of the Warhammer 40,000 universe.
A good sequel with improved strategic campaign. Different races with different mechanics. Good atmosphere and exciting cutscenes. I didn't play multiplayer yet but for single player experience this game is among my best 3 for this year. Any WH fan will love it.
Fans of the original game will be happy to know it's more of the same. The game suffers from a bit of replayability issues as the missions are somewhat lacking in variety, but it has a very solid base.
Playing against the Eldar is an incredibly frustrating experience, but it matches the lore well and I cannot complain too much about it.
The battles can be fun once the player controlled and AI controlled (in campaign) fleets become large and complex enough. However, the campaign map mechanics are very simple and feel unfinished. Some aspects of battle feel unfinished as well (ex: capture points). This is especially startling in comparison to another famous Warhammer entry (Total War: Warhammer 1/2). While the game has 12 factions accessible in the multiplayer (which is pretty awesome), only 5 (3 human factions, necros, and tyranids) are accessible in campaign. This game will probably improve significantly as it is patched, but at its release state I cannot give it more than a 7/10. I would recommend checking out this game in late Spring/Summer of 2019 when it has been patched and expanded.
This game has so much potential, but as features from the first game are missing that made it special, it feels like a streamlined version of BFG:A1 for the mass market.
The good:
Good campaign with interesting management and strategic choices.
The bad:
The multiplayer fleet management is gone. There is no need to protect your ships anymore and the only mode you can play is "ranked". The persistent mode features got dulled down so much it feels like they went from "Fallout New Vegas" to "Fallout 4". Make it simple for the mass market and feel like every other soulless multiplayer.
The ugly:
You can only play "domination" in multiplayer, where you have to capture points that don't even have a meaning. You win by "points" and not by destroying the enemy. There is no cruiser clash anymore. With the missing fleet management and no cruiser clash I cannot motivate myself to play multiplayer because players can just grief with escort ships capturing points instead of fighting.
With this in mind I will only play single player and in hindsight would have waited for a Steam sale instead of buying it now.
Singleplayer: 8/10
Multiplayer 0/10
Resulting in 4/10
