  • Summary: Eisenhower, Rommel, Zhukov; Assume your rightful place among the great generals commanding the Allies, Germans or Soviets as they advance through the decisive battles of WWII. Blitzkrieg is the latest development in WWII real-time strategy gaming combining flexibility, historic accuracy and endless playability into one of the most challenging and enjoyable games yet! Blitzkrieg's unique and completely flexible campaign structure puts you in control of deciding how your forces will fare in each of the major engagements that comprise three central Campaigns. Hardcore vets have the option of engaging the enemy immediately in a desperate struggle for battlefield dominance, or more cautious players can choose from pre-defined or unlimited randomly generated side missions as they gain experience, promotions and weapons upgrades as well as wear down the enemy before the central conflict. 1. Overall feel and flavor for the ground war is masterful... Blitzkrieg is a rare gem, a Real Time Strategy that works on all fronts.
  2. Can be a tough mountain to master due to the sheer amount of detail that was placed into it if you aren’t a patient person, but it’s really enjoyable even while learning and is especially fun once you get the hang of it.

It still lacks the tactical focus and strange mix of contemplative planning and haphazard action that makes the "Combat Mission" series so compelling, but as a real-time game ..., it has a more direct sense of momentum and action.
  4. It's also rather unpolished. But while the game may not make a very remarkable first impression, it does have some strong gameplay elements that give it some real substance and help make it deserving of your attention.
  5. A must-buy for World War II buffs or those who want a straightforward and realistic RTS that demands tactical prowess and no city management skills whatsoever.
  6. Delivers the best World War II real-time gaming experience to date. [Aug 2003, p.88]
  7. Forgettable. [Sept 2003, p.82]

After all those years it still remains the best RTS I have ever played(and will be playing). The amount of units the game offers is simply amazing, and with every unit demanding a different approach you're in for a long learning time. The learning curve of this game is very steep, there are a lot of things you need to master to full take advantage of your army. The single player of this game is very realistic which actually makes it kind of boring since you're going to spend most of the time waiting for the artillery to do the job, you don't want to lose your units after all. What you really want to pick this game up for is the multiplayer, with 100's of customized maps this multiplayer will keep you busy for a couple of months/years. Granted, it may take you a few weeks before you actually win you're first game.

The game doesn't make use of building bases and resource gathering but you do have supply trucks + mining and demining vehicles, that can really make the difference in winning or losing a game. You can pretty much have an infinite amount of units. Don't buy this game for the graphics, buy it for the gameplay.

It's *THE* WWII RTS so far. Way better that the Sudden Strike series.

Great WWII RTS...been playing it and its add-on predecessors for years. Only reason I didn't give it a 10 was its capacity for units to get bogged down. As an RTS a definite 9. As a strategy game, around a 7. Expand
