I'm rather enamoured by the unique flavour of online combat presented by Chivalry. It's fresh and fun, and like the very best games is easy to get into yet incredibly hard to master. I've honestly not had this much competitive online joy since Battlefield 3, and to think a $25 indie title can provide a level of enjoyment up there with a $100 million game like Battlefield is testimony to the skill of the developer.

For only 25 bucks, you get a good amount of game. If you're looking for some good, difficult fun, you should really check this game out.
  3. Oct 23, 2012
Straightforward in approach yet exceedingly effective in delivery, it elevates the notion of melee combat past a last ditch combat maneuver and into a realm of medieval, multiplayer bliss.

Excellent multiplayer slasher, full of sound, fury and blood. More object maps, please. [Dec 2012]

Every hit, parry and block feels real. The sound, the knockback, the weight of the weapon -- it all goes towards making duels seem like a struggle.

Chivalry: Medieval Warfare is a limited but refined multiplayer experience. The mix of simulation and arcade elements creates a fresh and compelling experience for those who live to conquer medieval battlefields.

Chivalry is Quake to War of the Roses' Battlefield, and those seeking a faster-paced bloodier experience will undoubtedly prefer Chivalry's type of steel. [March 2013, p.65]

Chivalry is slightly… bipolar. The spectacle of a duel (especially if the two opponents are seasoned veterans) can be spectacularly breath-taking, a complex choreography that one can only marvel at. Blocks, feints, slashes, back-steps, side-hits: despite initial impressions, this can be a truly intellectual game of tactics, requiring high skills, observation and deviousness. On the other hand, the spectacle of a massive battle of fifty warriors can be ridiculously chaotic: especially if the players are inexperienced and go for blind “hack and slash” tactics, it’s more like a metal concert mosh pit than a battle for glory and honor. [February 2013]

An immersive, interesting and addictive take on the competitive multiplayer FPS. Go into this one swinging. [Dec 2012, p.72]
  10. Nov 28, 2012
This is not a pompous blockbuster, nor a long-term proposition. This is about men hitting each other with swords, and the hitting part works great. Chivalry is a simple pleasure, and a funny game indeed.
  11. Nov 11, 2012
A really good take on multiplayer combat. Fun and brutal, Chivalry is a great option if you are tired of shooting bullets.
  12. Nov 9, 2012
Chivalry is, hands down, the best online slasher set in the Middle Ages out there right now.
  13. Oct 31, 2012
Chivalry: Medieval Warfare is up to a better start than War of the Roses. Torn Banner Studios have shunned any historical accuracy or character editing options, but their fighting system is easier to learn, while at the same time offering a surprising amount of depth. Dynamic rather than authentic, these skirmishes are much easier to enjoy.
  14. Oct 23, 2012
Medieval Warfare successfully recreates the chaotic battles from the middle earth in a strong and crazy multiplayer action game. It's very funny, intense and offers a good mix of simulation and arcade elements.
  15. Oct 29, 2012
Like its competition, Chivalry hasn't quite perfected the formula for medieval warfare, but it's a violent, fun time nonetheless.
  16. Oct 18, 2012
It offers loads of fun and a simple but deep at the same time fighting system. Still far from perfect, but it could get closer to it with a few patches or updates.
  17. Oct 24, 2012
    Quotation forthcoming.
  18. Nov 29, 2012
Chivalry's gameplay was boiled down to waving your weapon around but if you're willing to accept this simplicity, you're in for hours of fun. [CD-Action 13/2012, p.62]
  19. Nov 13, 2012
Chivalry: Medieval Warfare is an interesting first person melee combat simulation, quite similar to the Mount & Blade series. The game made by Torn Banner Studios is funny and beautiful but doesn't have its own identity.
  20. Feb 26, 2013
A multiplayer experience that offers a realistic point of view of the Medieval melee battles. It's not fit for everyone, but if you get past the glitches and the high difficulty curve, you'll find an enjoyable and addictive game.
  21. Dec 4, 2012
Chivalry: Medieval Warfare's focus on melee combat with lots of people might frustrate some, but it's an impeccably designed system that throws a huge curveball at anyone who thinks they've mastered the controls.
  22. Oct 27, 2012
Both technical and brutal, Chivalry doesn't take itself too seriously (especially with an over-the-top sound design), and it's really playable. Its only true shortcoming comes from the network code that sometimes dies on you in the middle of a fight.
  23. Nov 29, 2012
A pseudo-medieval multiplayer action game that's definitely above-average. However, it's pretty middle-of-the-road, it's something between an instant mild entertainment and a challenge for hardcore gamers. The game clearly has the potential to be something more, but the creators' unskillful design decisions made Chivalry more for the first group of gamers.
  24. Nov 9, 2012
Compared to the similar War of the Roses you get tighter controls and more game modes, but it lacks in entertainment value.

Buy this game! The combat is better than any other melee game I've played. its hard to believe this is from an indie studio. If you like fast paced, smart, melee combat, this game is for you. Full Review »

This game is made of 100% pure epicness, it really does the job of getting you into a medieval battle. Combat is fluid and complex, graphics top notch for being indie, great active community oh and did I mention most of their dlc and expansions will be free? Full Review »

Fun game with little depth. The joy of brutally killing other players is nice, but the mechanics fall short making it a slasher with little skill involved. This game will provide some thrills, but I would only pick it up on sale. Full Review »
