    Modern Tactics reminds me why I loved the series, but also reminds me why I moved on to rivals such as "Combat Mission" (slower, smarter) and "Firefight" (sleeker, smarter). [Feb 2008, p.79]

    I waited years for this game and am very dissapointed. my grumbles in order of disatisfaction are....

    1, Victory locations; you cant see the victory locations, and time and time again you are briefed to take a feature, be it a bridge, ridge, road jucntion etc. You do that and hold the feature only to find that you lose because there are hidden VL in different parts of the map, that the enemy seems to be able to camp on almost everytime, ignoring the locations that you've been told to take.
    2. Poor AI the computer sometimes just sits there with teams neatly shuffling back and forth, no attempt at offensive or proper defensive behaviour.
    3. When or If you engage the enemy the computer seems to be able to work out minute blindspots in LOS, I've seen AFVs roll into blindspots caused by bushes 200 m from them and 5 m from the targetting team. it then takes the targetting team ages to perform the equvalent of a roll to the right or left and re-aqquire, by which time the AFV aquires them first.
    4 infinate force pool, you dont have the limited roster of the original CC games, so if you want to max out on Abrams go right ahead, but...
    5 There are no campaigns just individual actions, so you dont ned to think about a big picture anyway, just get through the next dull 30 minutes, using or saving as many lives as you can be bothered to.
    6 No unit descriptions, when you first play the game you have to find out what various squads and weapons capabilities are by trial and error because the manual aint going to help you, there must be 7 or 8 different types of AT weapon, no hint as to range, penetration or power, 30 mi.l grenades can damage tanks and some AT rockets cant, go figure....

    I think this game takes the absolute worst elements of the greatest squad level game ever and combines them, personally I'm gutted that I spent over 20 quid on it. Fair enough, there will be mods etc that improve it, but if I'm buying a Beta product I should be charged beta prices.
    Is Cross of Iron any better than this? I wont be risking another 20 notes until I hear that it is nothing like this.
