  • Summary: The focus of this expansion to "Cossacks: European Wars" is on an improved and more dynamic single player mode with adjustable difficulty. In addition to that the internet play and community features were greatly improved allowing players to check out each others histories and review recorded games. New units, nations, ships, a map editor, joining forces with the computer and exchanging resources all together take Cossacks to a new level. [CDV] Expand

  1. One thing that seemingly remains the same is the steep learning curve...If you are new to RTS games, you may want to bear in mind that Cossacks is exceptionally unforgiving in a way that say, "Age of Empires II" is not.
  2. 83
It would be truly great to be able to control and command a series of formations as a group -- something that is done in actual wars. But we can't have everything and actually what we have is pretty good.
  3. While the expansion doesn't drastically change the core elements, its additions to the gameplay make Cossacks much more enjoyable by opening up more strategic options.
  4. Cossacks remains a flawed best-seller, and Art of War doesn't do quite enough to change that. [PC Format]
  5. If they had done something about the AI and given more feedback during pausing, there's a fair old chance that The Art of War would have upped its score to win our Highly Recommended accolade.
  6. A complete game experience that's compelling, if sometimes unwieldy. [August 2002, p.79]
  7. Forget technology trees - this game has a technology forest that spans 17 pages. [Sept 2002, p.85]
