Brilliant old-school shooter has convinced us that Counter-Strike franchise is in no way to be retired or forgotten. [Oct 2012]

A fast, demanding shooter with a huge potential for the future. It's basically CS: Source, but the maps are more polished and the game looks better. [11/2012, p.64]

For a non-professional Counter-Striker, Global Offensive is just a cosmetic facelift, with re-run levels. [Sept 2012]

A polished revision of the famous multiplayer shooter that chooses to play it safe. [Oct 2012, p.70]

The new Counter Strike game is the king of tactical first-person shooters. It is perfectly suited for the professional gamers as well as for the casual ones. The game offers plenty of hours, even days, probably even years of fun and gameplay. You won't sleep well until you get to 1st place.
  6. Sep 13, 2012
Counter-Strike still offers the best and most balanced multiplayer first person action. Still, this old legend starts to show off some aging.
  7. Sep 7, 2012
When it comes down to it, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive may follow the same old formula of gameplay seen in previous versions of Counter-Strike, but it's still a well-rounded tactical shooter. It may not try anything drastically different or revolutionize the series by taking it in a new direction, but there's still enough there to appeal to newbies and hardcore fans alike.

This modern version of one of the best competitive games of all times does a good job in introducing new players to this highly tactical and skill-based gaming experience. If you are a veteran of the old days – CS:GO might disappoint you. It sure looks nice but lacks the precision that made CS 1.6 so damn good. It´s still a very good Counter-Strike, though.

The king of fps is back! If you are an old School player and you missed Counter Strike a lot then consider buying it for a cheap price on Steam.

In the end, CS:GO is CS. There's something to be said for a game that knows what it is and executes that idea well. Between the refined quality of classic CS, and the new tweaks and modes, there is plenty here to warrant a $15 price tag whether you have played CS before or not. The potential value is absurd given the historic and expected persistence of the community. CS:GO is hard, hardcore, and still a blast to play.

The traditional CS modes are excellently balanced. Games are fast-paced without being unmanageable, skill is rewarded in both the planning and outfitting stages as well as in battle, and good teamwork typically beats individual skills.
  12. Aug 30, 2012
Global Offensive is a decent modern online shooter as far as convenience goes, but in terms of content, it's Counter-Strike v1.6 with slight improvements.
  13. Aug 30, 2012
The developers haven't created a new game. Even though Global Offensive has some small innovations, it's mostly an adjustment of a well known game to today's standards. After a few hours I felt some kind of relief, that Valve kept the good old CS intact, but then something hit me. There are no radical changes – only a very obvious lifting, and this series is in trouble. CS:GO is a great game only because the original CS is a great game. If you're not a fan of this kind of gameplay, don't buy Global Offensive – it offers nothing more.
  14. Aug 29, 2012
Counter Strike: Global Offensive it's a well balanced mixture of classic and new element, both well suited for the Half Life mod veterans and newbie. And for 10.99 euros, it's really a must have.
  15. Aug 29, 2012
Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is still the great game we all know and love, only with improved visuals. The new Arms Race mode adds a good amount of variation to the game with some high speed action, but the normal, slower modes won't be to everyone's liking in this day of modern shooters. Still, for only fifteen euro's it's hard to turn down this new version of a monumental shooter.
  16. Aug 29, 2012
At the end, what matters is not if CS:GO is innovative or more of the same than CS: Source, what counts is if it's fun. And CS:GO couldn't be better in this regard.
  17. Aug 28, 2012
The most important aspect of any multiplayer game is how much you want to play after a session ends. This is where Global Offensive excels, possessing the same addictive quality that helped make the previous games a long-term success story.
  18. Aug 28, 2012
Modern shooters do their job well, but Counter-Strike is the series that helped build the scene. At $15, Global Offensive is a great extension to that legacy.
  19. Aug 28, 2012
This is a demanding, skill-based multiplayer game that's as satisfying now as it ever was, but it's for a specific kind of player. If you're not willing to learn to play different than you're used to, look elsewhere. Otherwise, this is a top-tier tactics game that will probably share the long-tailed legacy of its predecessors.
  20. Aug 25, 2012
Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is the 2012 masterpiece of online multiplayer first person shooters. True to itself, beautiful to see and amazingly harsh and fun to play.
  21. Aug 24, 2012
There are some touches that rejuvenate the game we've been playing for 12 years. The new scoreboard is terrific. There's both a server browser and a party system, if you prefer that. There's a slider for scaling the UI.
  22. Aug 24, 2012
    Quotation forthcoming.
  23. Aug 24, 2012
It's culled the crap, brought new content and tactics to a near-perfect series, and focused on community. It's got an extremely bright future ahead of itself.
  24. Aug 24, 2012
It may lack some of the community niceties, beloved maps (Assault, anyone?), and little features of past games, but Global Offensive delivers on the promise of a faithful, polished, and better looking Counter-Strike for whoever wants it. Even if the community doesn't meet the golden standard of 1.6 and Source, CS:GO will remain a multiplayer classic for those willing to put in the time to learn the maps and weapons.
  25. Aug 24, 2012
You're not paying for a full game when you purchase this title, and for $15 you're getting a lot of bang (literally) for your buck. The online matches are still just as addictive, and the new modes are very welcome and hopefully a precursor of more to come.
  26. Aug 24, 2012
One of the best first person shooters available right now. The game has a unique character thanks to the required combination of tactical insight and pure skills. Counter-Strike: Global Offensive's gameplay won't appeal to everyone, but that's also its greatest strength.
  27. Aug 23, 2012
Playing CS:GO reminded me just how much many of the new shooter features out there -- the Air Strikes, the perks, the tanks -- can help make up for a lack of core FPS skills. There's no faking it here, and if you really want to get right down to it and find out just how good of an online gunslinger you are, the crucible of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is a great place to do it.
  28. Aug 23, 2012
Every time I launched CS:GO this week, I couldn't help buy feel like it was a step backwards in my gaming evolution. It's new, but it's entirely familiar as well. The learning curve is shallow and I know I'm probably going to enjoy it before I even start.
  29. Aug 23, 2012
Counter-Strike: Global Offensive brings back all the fun and entertainment we've always gotten from this series. More action, with updated visuals and a great price. We would have liked some good new additions, since the new modes are no rival for the classic competitive one. CS: Global Offensive doesn't take the franchise a step further, but it still is Counter-Strike.
  30. Aug 23, 2012
Counter-Strike: it´s a classic and its formula has never grown tired. Global Offensive is a really good interpretation of that formula, more refined and better executed than CS: Source in its first days, so it's in an excellent position to reinvigorate the community around this seminal title.
  31. Aug 23, 2012
CS: GO stands as a glowing reminder that quality game design is rewarded in longevity and variety. Valve has not only updated the shooter but has completely outclassed its contemporaries. This is Counter-Strike, whatever the format you choose to play it on, and there isn't a higher recommendation than that.
  32. Aug 23, 2012
There's plenty of things to like about today's modern shooters, but Counter-Strike is the only one of its kind designed to be anything other than a throwaway novelty you replace every year. It's the Audi compared to Call of Duty's Fiat.
  33. Aug 23, 2012
Global Offensive is not innovative and it will not make the same impact that the first Counter-Strike did, but it's certainly a good game.
  34. Aug 22, 2012
The core of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is a reminder that quality can be permanent rather than fleeting, and the new additions give us new reasons to take interest and - hopefully - another way in for people who are ready for something different.

Now 12 yearsAfter the huge success the Counter-Strike mod had for the original Half-Life, Valve bought the IP and made it a standalone game. Now 12 years later Counter-Strike is back with what is essentially a HD remake. Using the newest version of the Source engine the visuals are the best looking in a Valve game to date and by god are they pretty, even on the lowest settings. The game adds a few new maps, a couple of new guns and introduces a new, easier to use interface along with vastly improved matchmaking mechanics. If you don't own a Counter-Strike game already then his is the package for you but if you are already an existing fan then £16 for a graphical upgrade and a handful of new features may not be enough to sway your decision. The game is only half complete. I will speak from a casual and competitive side of the game.

First the casual side. The game was suppose to come out with a zombie mode. They decided to early release the game and put in zombie mode later. The lack of flashlight. The lack of tagging/flinching makes newbie/casual players unable to out smart a professional gamer with perfect aim. This results in a game where aim > placement, position, and strategy.

The competitive side. The game sound is impossible to pinpoint exact player location. The lack of tagging and flinching. The money reward is messed up. $900 per p90/shotgun kill. Only receiving $50 for awp kills.

Overall a lot of the community was ignored on the forum. They pushed a game out that wasn't complete. A huge disappointment for a 1.6 player. The game is still definitely an improvement over source.
