Best shooter I've ever played. And I've played a lot, starting with Wolfenstien 3D, and even before that Dungeons of Daggorath if you want to consider a really old first person game. I can only play this game on medium detail, I have a low profile case, and as such I don't have the greatest GFX card in the world. I use a ATI Radeon HD 4650. I will say however, on medium, this game looks great compared to most of the titles I have on the XBOX 360, and compared to most of the titles I have on the PC. It plays smooth, and I'm pleased with performance. It only helps to know that when I upgrade my computer a few months from now the game will scale up to it, unlike most of my titles. As far as game play, I don't understand what people really are talking about. This is what keeps me playing this game over 2 years after I have bought it. I love the fact that having a suit with only 4 options gives me so many ways to approach a situation. The enemy AI seems to act appropriately for most of my actions, but there are a few times I have to scratch my head. The plot was fine with me. Off the wall, yes... But gave the game a creepy feel to it, and kind of made the game two separate experiences with the same multitude of options to solve each. Overall, I just found this game fun. I've become kind of immune to the FPS craze, and while I've played games like Modern Warfare 2, and all the Halo games, Crysis is still the pinnacle of fun to me. Giving me the option to run and gun, or stand in the middle of a Korean Base fully cloaked. My one complaint, and it is a complaint in most games, the vehicles drive like cardboard boxes. In fact, the only fun I had was with the tank level, only because it was the only vehicle in the game that drove like it should. I definitely recommend this game. Just don't expect to get the highest settings out of it, but know that the game is fun and very playable at lower settings. Expand

You can easily see where the influence of this game came from. However, I am going to complete this review without any reference to Halo. The most notable detail, one that you'll see as soon as you begin playing, is the scenery. The aesthetically pleasing environment of this FPS puts all others to shame. However, while the levels seem quite open and non-linear at a glance, they feel limited. Also the story lacks much originality as does most aspects of the game. Don't get me wrong though, it is a very enjoyable shooter that I recommend for all you have the PC requirements to play it. It may not be remembered for as long as the popular console games, but it is one of the best on PC and should definitely be on your shopping list. Expand

An overall good game, stunning graphics (but you'll need a VERY powerful computer), story is average and the gameplay is great and that's about it. This game is sure one of the best shooter game but that's it, you're role is to kill and kill then kill some more: you're a killing machine and except the very good graphics and graphic designs there's nothing else in the game. You're not here to solve anything, you're job is too destroy. The new weapons weren't even fun, just more powerful. Don't get me wrong though, it's a very good game but somehow limited, in my opinion it doesn't match a Half-Life. Expand

So yeah, really pretty trees and vistas and....that's about it. The dialog would have been better if they had never said anything at all. The game has your standard assortment of weapons but once I got my hands on an AK with a scope It was pretty much the only weapon I used. Although there was this problem I had where when I went to pick up a pistol for its ammo I ended up with two pistols and I was no longer able to sight down the barrel for precise shots which really sucked. Also for some reason the sun was rising in the south west in the game which made absolutely no sense to me. The time spent in vehicles(tanks, helicopter) was largely frustrating and I was pretty happy when they were over. All in all, Im glad I only paid $6 for this(steam sale) been furious if I had paid full price for this half-game. Expand

The game starts out ok but the later levels are horrible. It goes from a nice wide open non linear game to complete linearity. I lost all interest after the Core level because from there on its nothing but alien crap. The end boss was extremely cheesy and seemed like it was added at the last minute just to have a boss.

Oh, goody, another game whose storyline is based on cheesy 80's action B-movies. Aside from the graphics, which are amazing, I'm finding this game tedious. There are way too many outright mistakes, which are a distraction. The AI stinks. I just spent 5 minutes running through a forest in the dark with a helicopter trailing me and shooting at me, even under a canopy of trees, even when cloaked. It could even see me through mountains - it would start shooting at me before it crossed ridgelines. Shoot a chicken, then walk over it, and it still clucks. The tires of vehicles squeal in gravel, sand, and grass. Occasionally wierd things happen with the physics like a soldier stuck through the center of the wall of a destroyed shack, tumbling in place. Did anyone play-test this game? Expand

not a good followup to far cry. this game tried too hard to complicate game play by adding sci fi nanosuits etc....gamers just want to shoot and kill while keeping it simple. this game when first released was a system resource hog and barely playable. some ppl love this game but it just didnt really excite me i guess because i dont like the whole future element.

Bought this on a Steam weekend sale for a steal. It was one game that when it came out my computer had no hope of running it so I never played it. Now my computer is better and it's a 4 year old game...so it goes. The interesting thing about that is, this game STILL looks simply stunning 4 years later. I have played other games released in the last year that don't even come close to the beauty that Crysis displays. The environment is a character itself in this one. The plants move when you walk by, the water makes ripples when you step in it, there are grouse that run in little packs and move out of your way. The sun rises and sets sending rays of light and growing shadows, it FEELS cold when there is frost. It's that good. Visually stunning, still. And that is saying a lot in the world of four year old graphics. It has been a long time since a shooter grabbed my attention and made me not want to stop playing. A LOOONG TIME, like say HALO. Shooters too often are the same game with a different title (pick any war simulation on the market today, doesn't matter who makes it, same game). This one felt different. Because the environment mattered so much it changed the whole game. Plants make cover, walk too far forward and you are seen, too far back and you can't see. Shadows, lighting all affect the AI. These AI enemies actually act with and react to the environment. Need to get past a pack of bad guys but low on ammo? Toss a stick and they'll go see what it was. Crash a truck and they'll check it out and when they don't find you, they will act nervously, searching the area. It is some of the best AI in a shooter, even now four years later. Now, I'm not saying these guys are gonna win any intelligence awards, they're dumb AI. But some of the best dumb AI out there. Weapons are all unique and have their perks. Used properly all weapons are appropriately lethal. In the end this game was the whole package. Good story, great action, jaw dropping graphics, a shooter that actually rewards strategy and an environment that makes formulating one satisfying and fun. If you haven't played Crysis and want a good shooter, get this one. The game played bug free but did display a few graphical glitches that did not affect game play, just looked odd occasionally. EDIT : Game will not play completely on DX10, which it sets by default if your system is capable. It is necessary to force the game to play in DX9 in order to finish the game. 2 points removed from rating for this bug. Expand

Ok, Like WOW! Graphics were amazing, And the use of directx 10 makes things so super sexy. The weapons were amazing, the suits not only looked fucking sexy as hell! But also included amazing abilities, that suited not only certain conditions, but also certain play styles, like stealthy (as I'm more of a Metal Gear Solid fan), or "Rambo" style... etc. But now we come to the bad part of my review. I'm going to start with, what I am calling the, "fists of fury" inaccuracy. In the game, your suit allows you to temporarily, Very temporarily, increase body functions, armour or become invisible. So during the later parts of the game, In one of the alien missions, you encounter these VERY Matrix's "Sentinel" looking creatures, they even spread their tentacles to walk along the ground and attack you. I was being swarmed by about 3 of them, firing my weapon madly at them, throwing grenades and everything, Sparks were flying off them, but they still wouldn't die. But as one crawled closer to me, the "grab enemy" icon come up, So I grabbed this squirming robotic alien creature, And began punching it (because your weapon will automatically switch to fists when grabbing something large) and found if you increase your strength, and continue punching it, you'll actually deal A LOT more damage, than with your bolt action, precision sniper rifle, or your under-slung grenade launcher. And the characters for the Game were such stereotypical action movie characters. Even though you're a Special forces squad, and I know for a fact you ALWAYS work in, or very close to your squad, in real life, for some reason, your higher ranking, and more experienced team leader, orders you to Leave the squad and attack a villiage of hostiles on YOUR OWN! It's stupid! I know the US army is dumb, But their Special forces aren't THAT dumb! I'm about to talk about the story, so stop reading if you, strangely, want to play this game. Towards the end of the game, you find yourself in the most obvious Hollywood scene ever. You've been saved by your best buddy, who you saw being dragged off and wounded by a large robot, but somehow lived; it never explained it. You're then taken to a nearby aircraft carrier. where You're told to go to go to the bridge where you hear a general ordering a nuclear attack on the island, But an intelligent, and hot, researcher/scientist's daughter, is pleading him not to attack, because attacking them will only make them stronger. Anyway, the dumb American general talks about saving his "planet", Not his country, But his whole planet, and then disregarding ALL scientific evidence, research and suggestion, by nuking the whole island, and making them stronger and angrier... WOW! Big surprise, like that's not the over-used type of American character. That would never happen, it'd make too many other countries angry, including the Koreans who were also on the Island. But then, after he admits he might have been wrong, nothing happens to him! You don't know if he lives or dies, because he orders you to go out on the deck, and fight the aliens that he just pissed off! When you come back, all the crew are gone! Some how they escaped while you were fighting the aliens. And the Plot is just Stupidly and boringly close to Farcry's plot! It was exactly the same, except replace the mutated creatures with aliens... BAM! Same game, better graphics. That's it. In Conclusion; The Graphics were amazing, and beautiful. The suit was modeled and animated beautifully, I often found myself stopping in combat, just to check out the suits. And the faces during the cinematics are so beautiful and realistic, You can actually see the emotions, It's an amazing feat. And the special effects, were a great addition into helping to immerse me in the feel and atmosphere of the area. The suits' abilities, the jungle areas and fooling the AI by running into a bush, cloaking then running out the other side were also very enjoyable. So to the coders and the Artists, Well done! You guys deserve an award, or a medal. Especially the Artists, for all their amazing work. Well done. But to the writers and game designers... Go write some low-budget horror films or action films in Hollywood, you'd fit right in with all the other senseless crappy plots. Don't write for games! The story is the same as Farcry's, the progression was WAY too fast, the change from Koreans to Aliens was dumb! Fighting the Koreans was the only fun part. Which is like the first level, so if you want to play the only good part of the game, get the demo... Seriously. Expand

This overrated snore-fest is about as playable as a scientific calculator. The graphics, which try desperately to be photorealistic end up in a similar state of affairs as it's spiritual predecessor: A lot of really awesome looking trees, with structures that look like they were thrown together in milkshape and characters that look like plastic, fully posable action figures. If you played Island Simulator 1 (I mean Far Cry) there's no need to waste your hard earned money on Island Simulator 2 (I mean Crysis), it's the same thing, except the mutants are now aliens and that sense of boredom is not a sense of deja vu. In the end, its just another shooter. Sure, its pretty, but when you spend the better part of a decade making the same game over and over, you'd better perfect what you're doing. The biggest thing I can't get over is the AI. Far Cry and Far Cry 2 had brilliant AI, and this is a HUGE step down. When people stop drooling over the graphics long enough to realize that the gameplay is uninspired and even a step back from what Crytek has done before, they'll put this one down, move on to something better, and never play it again. what should have been a fun game, turned out to be quite a disappointment. I don't know what game reviewers were thinking when they said all of this. Best looking game ever? The graphics were sub par. Facial features were horribly cartoonish and they do not come near the likes of Call of Duty 4. The graphics aren't HORRIBLE but, its what I expect to come out around the Half-life 2 era, not now. The gameplay is fun, the powers are cool, however...with objects disappearing at a certain range then reappearing when you're close (even enemies) it's impossible to scope out a place and find the safest route because as you run for an area suddenly an enemy "appears" in what looked to be clear area beforehand. How unrealistic is that? Next, even if I do find an enemy at a safe distance and go for a shot, the guns you use are horribly inaccurate at a range of more than point blank. I remember doing single shots at maybe 200 meters from the enemy and have about half a clip unloaded before he died. This leads me to another thing..a guy gets shot, he looks around searching for you, runs around aimlessly, does not look to take cover. horrible AI anyone? I think EA MUST have paid these guys to give this game good reviews because this is not NEAR any of the recent FPS's that have come out and are not even in the same category. Please, someone, show me how all my points are incorrect. But thus far, me and 3 friends who have played the game found the EXACT same problems. Its not only me. Expand

This game is pretty, BUT the multiplayer is not nearly as good as BF2142 or QW:ET, the first major DX10 game has a very pretty environment that boggs down a 8800GTX. The campain is weak at best with a storyline that feels like someone got drunk and watch Cocoon, ET, and then played a game of BF2142 on crystal Meth. Is it pretty?, yes Is the multiplayer good?, sparlingly Is the single player good? Makes Halo 3 look lie a shakespearean soliloquy, and Halo 3 is meh at best, maybe a 5. All in all if you have to get a game to justify the 500-2000 dollars you spend on high end graphics card(s) and the other 1000-2000 dollars for a system I guess I would be giving it a 10 so I could still live the lie. Unfortunately for crysis, valve decided to release the best gaming value in modern recorded history and 1 match of TF2 makes the the 60 bucks I spent on Crysis look like a it would have been better spent on buying the orange box for one of my friends or a nice logitech headset. Poor performance, buggy engine, bad controls and poor AI with really pretty graphics bolted-on do not make for a very fun or compelling game. It's unfortunate how so many PC owners are looking for visual benchmarks more than gameplay. This game fails on all fronts except graphics. Yes, it has some amazing visuals, but everything (and I do mean EVERYTHING) else is just wrong with this game. Don't waste the 50 bucks people. This thing is bargain bin material as control is horrible and not sharp, game AI can't even compete with the likes of Far Cry or FEAR or even the first HalfLife. The engine is riddled with bugs and anomalies, and the game is coded horribly where even the highest end PC will choke and sputter in areas where they just cut short development. Expand

WHAT A JOKE. Great features for variety in play using nanosuit. Regardless of which boost you choose, it doesn't truly help the boring gameplay. Far Cry actually had very good fps mechanics and you could 'feel' your own involvement throughout the cheesy story. In Far Cry 2.0 (or, Crysis) you've got a super nano suit which makes you look cool but you've got zero aim, even though you clearly are aiming at enemies' body and head. It just seems to pass through them MOST of the time. Who wants to labour through this sort of tedious inaccuracy in gameplay? story is straight out of patriotic US blockbuster cheese. Who cares about anything when everything is so predictable and shallow and contrived. Where is the creativity? Oh the graphics are great apparently but only 10% of us gamers will understand or know why. To the rest its low specs to get frame rates running ok. Wow anyone who enjoyed Far Cry is going to be disappointed at the giant leap BACK that this game somehow has managed to achieve. Its just a boring, frustrating experience and I cant believe such anticipation is shattered after a few hours of crushing disappointment - the experience becoming a reality not just holding my breath thinking "I'll grow into the game". Send Crytek the right message - gameplay first and above all! More than just a disappointment!! Expand

You know, I never finished Far Cry, because it bored the snot out of me....now it looks like I'll never finish Crysis for the same reason. Of course, a pretty little game it is, however I fear the majority of the populatio will never see the beauty of it at it's full effect due to the ridiculous system requirements. By the time that they can, Crysis will be relegated into the bin of "been there done that" games that pollute every retailer. This game, has been quite simply, overhyped since day one. There is nothing new or innovative whatsover in it, aside from the pretty graphics. If you enjoy pumping the dumb ai with a full clip of ammo only to watch them standing there laughing at you, invincible....then this game is for you... This game is terrible, really. Who cares about overblown graphcs that can't run with nice FPS fastest PC's. The physics seem nice at first glance, but later you can clearly see that you can only do thing programmers predicted. Some objects can't be destroyed, no matter how big is your gun - pathetic. The AI is really terrible, enemies get fooled easily, often do absurd things...plus AI cheats in a visible way. Get used to being cased by 30+ soldiers, a tank, 2 hellicopters. Maybe it only seems strange to me when a hellicopter wastes over 20 rockets to kill me - one damn American supersoldier. The stroy seems stupid as well - enemies in nanosuites, aliens... like we haven't seen that before. And the stupid idea of making the player something like 80's action-movie hero that does everything solo. You're like John Rambo, you kill the whole army. With time you get bored with constant 'sneak - headshot - run - sneak - headshot' routine and avoid enemies unless 'the mission' forces you to face them. It's really more of an advanced benchmark with ambitions rather than a real game...just like FarCry. Expand

In all it's a poor game - the graphics are in fact (IMO) pretty pants and the gameplay isnt good enough to bring it back up to scratch. Hit boxes are terrible and the "physics" is decidedly questionable.... That said it isnt a BAD game there are just much much much better ones about (COD4 for example) at the moment. Expand

Stunning, absolutely beautiful. Unfortunately, the story is banal, the actual shooting within this shooter isn't that much fun, its short and it ends pitifully. The most enjoyable thing to do is to use strength to bounce around, jumping on enemies and punching them through houses, then picking up the bits of building and throwing them at other baddies.. Additionally, the suit stats are very easy to tweak in a config file - otherwise running and cloak only last a few seconds. Surely strength should make for faster running?.. Stunning, but a dull premise. Presumably this game will suffer as Doom 3 did, when it was released before mainstream PC's could handle it properly. Expand

Totally overrated. Period. The story is cheesy (the voice-over alone is terrible !) and combat just isn't fun. The landscape looks kinda nice, but only on - at least - a "medium" detail setting. Anything below - and 99% of you won't even be able to run the game smoothly with even "medium" settings - looks just really, really cheap and ugly. I have a brand new high-end PC, so it's not the hardware that makes me rate this game so low. It's just that you can buy other FPS games that use your system's ressources to much better effect, like BF2 or COD4. Make sure you download the demo before buying the game and see for yourself if your system can run the game decently and to find out if the cheesy sci-fi theme is really your cup of tea. Expand

One word. Aliens. Killed the game, gameplay, and storyline. AI is generally retarded, best part about the game would be the physics engine, and it gets old real fast. Most amount of fun you can have with this game is throwing barrels at a tin house to watch it fall down, because the gun fights aren't even mentionable. Just a sub-standard FPS with sci fi inputs, with a cool graphics engine.

Crysis delivers a good FPS experience, having stunning graphics and quite cool gameplay, but nothing exceptional as for the storyline. This game suffers from several programming flaws, but nothing that will make your gaming experience unenjoyable, even if you could be forced to start over a mission due to an error in the programming; as for graphics, most likely the best feature in this game, it's still hard to find a computer able to run this at high values smoothly enough, and even in this aspect you still have minor resolution bugs and compatibility issues with DirectX 10. A quite good game overall and a must-try for everyone. Expand

I hated it. The only thing that's good about it is the graphics. the beginning was all good but then it all turned to be garbage. The flight controls in this game were just dumb. Last boss was a joke. terrible.

One of the best games ever created. The graphics are just amazing. It's a must for FPS lovers. Also, they have my respect for making the game PC only.

To some, a benchmark. For others, a benchmark of how a great traditional open world first person shooter is made. For me crysis walks the middle ground. It's pacing was flawed, however it's systems flow with grace. It will always look incredible - however what many fail to recognize is that the actual game underneath - is kind of incredible as well. Just not perfect.

This game is a pioneer of realism in the FPS genre. Exciting, immersive and mindblowing are just a few words that can be used to describe the Crysis experience. On top of the breakthroughs in technology, Crysis offers gamers a unique multiplayer mode titled "Power Struggle" in which two sides will fight in all out nuclear warfare, using tanks, boats and aircrafts, including customization of your nano suit and the ability to perform total stealth. I know this may sound premature, but Crysis is taking the Battlefield online play to a WHOLE new level by combining the best of FPS aspects. Think of a game set in the future that takes the best from BFseries, and Coutnerstrike and put it all together in a nice tasty DirectX10 package. Bam, you get Crysis.

After almost a year on the filefront crysis demo alert, I got my call today saying the single player demo for Crysis was ready... I rushed through downloading the 1.77 gb file and installed it quickly. I started it up and... AMAZING, FUN, REVOLUTIONARY, and oh did I mention fun? Though simular to Farcry in many ways, Crysis is a breakthrough in gaming. The suit with powers, the weapons, the graphics, and the gameplay were all up to par with cod4, UT3, Timeshift, and HL2 episode 2. I was worried that the game would eat my comp up for breakfast, but turns out I was able to max almost all the options aside from some shading and anti aliasing. With all these great games comming out, I'm putting my money twords Crysis. Some say this is just another Farcry, but I say its a step up in gaming! Expand

Far Cry ... I mean Crysis has already been made and played in the 100 other FPS'ers out there. If you don't have a top of the line computer don't plan on being impressed by the graphics. Anyway, I only gave it a 5 and not lower because I loved Far Cry and this game is pretty much the same game (except for the exploding trees).

This game has revolutionized the history of gaming. It will pave the road for the future of video games. As for 1Up (shame on you) and all others which gave this game a 90 or below, you should all find new jobs having nothing to do with rating video games. The day one of you “game reviewers” can create a masterpiece like Crysis, BioShock or Half Life 2, I will definitely respect your opinion, till then, keep dreaming and keep accepting the competitions contributions for your negative posts. You can't even dl the demo to try it out. For unknown reasons, I could not dl it from the source given by the official site. It keeps dropping 1/4 of the way, which sucks. Perhaps there is another dl source out there. 5 for giving only 1 source to dl which in my case impossible to play.

Spoilers ahead. Sure, noone (with the right hardware atleast) can complain on the graphics in crysis. But the rest of the experience frustrated me so much that its been disturbing my sleep since i finished the single player campaign. I close my eyes and think about what the h*ll happened. I longed for this game so much like everyone else. When i first jumped in i was excited and tried to kill off koreans in fancy ways until i realised all i had to to was shoot-take cover-stealth-repeat. This made me use maximum speed through the bushes and palmtrees whenever i could just to get to the next checkpoint to see if it would get better. It didnt. It got tons of worse. After the koreans came the koreans in nanosuits, you could especially tell they were koreans since they had the same behaviour as their comrades without the fancy suit. The following tankdriving and shooting was nothing special. Beautiful interiors of the alien mothership completely ruined by predatorlookalike aliens. I was happy when i finally get out of there to see the frozen jungle. Had looked forward to that. When i got out of the snowy weather and starting to drive away from the bubble i got really worried. And not without reason. Only thing left in the game was some flying through valleys and some running about at the carrier. That hunterboss on the ship looked kickass but was a complete letdown like everything else. And the bigger spaceshipfight defied all logic. How could that not blow the carrier out of the sea? Holy crap, i have not been this dissapointed for a long time. 5 points for graphical achievements. Final words, stay away. Expand

Crysis is a retarded tech demo, just like Far Cry. If seeing shiny realistic graphics and physics is your thing, go ahead and get it; if you're in for the gameplay, forget it. Another, easier way to see shiny realistic graphics and physics, by the way, is to look out the window.

The Best FPS this year... actually the best FPS EVER created if you ask me. I tried playing HL2:EP2 after finishing Crysis and I couldn't do it... the world seems so empty and static I was surprised myself. I get back to play Crysis second time - now on easy (I have finished it on Delta the first time) just to have some fun.. and I am getting it all the time. There is nothing better now... hopefully FarCry 2 will be a competitor for Crysis.. until Crysis 2 is released. Expand

Quite an incredible game, I nearly gave it a 10 but the final third lets it down. (SPOILERS IN THIS REVIEW) The first half/two thirds of the game, when you're fighting the NK forces is really, really good. Superb gunplay, excellent environment and there is so much fun to be had with explosives. Never before have I had such fun by blowing up buildings, or blowing up anything, really. Explosions Is one thing Crysis does REALLY well, and not just in the graphical department. The start of the war (destroying the AAA in the harbour is the most intense battle I've ever seen in a game). The tank section is exhilarating and explosive, especially due to all the free rocket launchers everywhere. Funny how nobody mentions the mountain collapsing (revealing the alien fortress thing) behind the battle. Having the characters mention that might have been a good move, or even just adding radio chatter. After entering the alien structure, things go steadily downhill for the most part. The aliens themselves are a bit boring to fight, really, with all the dynamics that made fighting the NK forces removed, the zero-gravity just feels too much like fighting underwater to make you forget about the jungle. The environment is a bit samey and disorienting, although I guess some of that was intentional due it it being "alien". If they had removed the "auto-orientate upwards" thing (perhaps by adding a button for that), it might have been a little more interesting. In the ice sphere, gameplay improves somewhat. The alien grunt machines are more interesting to fight than the aliens themselves, but I'd still prefer the NKs (where did they all go, anyway? You don't see any of them after entering the alien machine). The way the ice sphere stops the minigun from overheating was a cool addition here. Nice design on the alien weapon Prophet gives you, especially how he added an RIS rail to it. I'm a sucker for alien/human hybrid weapons though. The environment is visually interesting, what with the extreme cold (bushes crack as you walk through them, instead of bustling out of your way) and geological upheaval. Fighting the alien flyers was cool too, like less predictable helicopters, and their deaths were cool too, what with the trailing "legs". Exiting the sphere: The on rails shooty bit was okayish, shame they killed off the other two jeeps. Makes the whole bit pointless. Environment is pretty much the same as inside the sphere, but with no ice. Manning the AA gun was cool, shame it couldn't move. The missiles should have been homing, too, but the power of the main gun made up for that - seeing the alien flyers drop like flies gives you a nice feeling of kickass. This is removed when an indestructible alien walker comes along and kills pretty much everyone. Leaving the island: Did I mention the game is super-duper "HOO-AH!" towards the US Military? Practically everything the US forces do make you want to give a big "HELL YEAH!" (even if you're a reserved English gentleman), namely the way your character announces that he is "U.S. Special Forces", the start of the tank level, the airstrikes, and the Marine Major who dies machinegunning the giant alien walker. Terrific fun. After retreating to the VTOL, you pilot it through a bunch of convenient canyons (rather slowly, this thing should have been much nippier [turbo was practically useless], and the controls - it should have flown upwards when you pointed up, not when you pressed space!) while blasting away at alien flyers with homing missiles and a cannon with unlimited ammo. The air-to-air combat was really fun, and is the last high point of the gameplay. You land on the carrier, and this is where Crysis pulls a "talky level", showing off the super-realistic faces, facial animation and general character excellence. I noticed a glitche with the animaton here though, occasionally a characters legs would be "desynched" and would jerk for a second before returning to normal. The cutscene in CDC had a pause in it too, after which the Admiral continued mouthing wordlessly because his line had already been played. Overall a decent level, with nice atmosphere and graphics (zero gameplay of course). The nuclear explosion was a bit of a letdown though, especially for a game that does explosions so well otherwise. The aliens finally attack the naval task force, you fight them off, everyone dies (including the Admiral, whose death is once again cool and redeems him for the mistake of a nuclear attack). The environment of the doomed carrier was okay, acceptable use of the flames, although adding a variable listing could have made it feel much more "in danger at sea". The alien walker battle was a bit badly designed, I expected to be able to kill it from behind, but it could only be damaged from the front. Getting frozen was a bit aggravating too. The super-final boss was a bit boring, (it's big cannon should have blown the Carrier superstructure to bits instead of... no noticeable visual effect. I guess they'd run out of budget by this point), and the nuclear grenade launcher you carry didn't look as pretty as it should have. Once it is defeated, you get picked up by Psycho and whatshername in a VTOL and escape, cue ending cutscene. Very poor ending, I thought. IN CONCLUSION: Game stops being incredibly awesome when you enter the alien structure, and drops to merely being a good shooter. Up to that point, though, it's probably the best shooter I've ever played. Definitely worth your money, because what with the super-easy-to-mod engine, we'll be seeing some cool modifications. I've probably listed the faults in such a way that exaggerates them, they're really not all that bad. The game is incredible. Apologies for stupid length of this review. BUY CRYSIS! Expand

Very, very pretty. Sure, you need a silly system to get the best out of it and the engine's top settings have clearly been designed with future hardware in mind, but if you've spent a lot of money on hardware recently it'll make you feel like you know where it went. Single player campaign is nicely textured and not quite as linear as is usual for an FPS - there are often multiple ways to reach your objectives. Not much new to be had though, there's no game element that stands out as particularly innovative once you've got past the sheer beauty of the environment. Multiplayer in particular is a bit meh, there are a million FPS offerings and this just isn't one of the best online ones. Still gets a 9 from me, but it's mostly a shallow 9 for its looks. Expand

Crysis, the most anticipated game of the last couple of years. Was it worth the wait, well frankly the answer is no. Average graphics, dodgy AI, a story you couldn't care less about, gimmicks which have all been seen before (admittedly in slightly different form), way too easy and way too short. During the first half of the game I thought I'd gone back in time, and I was playing Far Cry again (which I have to say is a far better game, and parts of it are prettier). If you want a good shooter then try Bioshock, Stalker, HL2, Timeshift or Gears of War before this. Hopefully Far Cry 2 will be the game that Crysis was supposed to be. Expand

Crysis is a great game, an a game doesn't need over the top graphics to be a good game. Like Half-Life from 1998, the graphics may suck but the game is still great. The game gets really exciting when you get into the Assault part. Crytek's engine will get superated by the Valve's HPRV engine that will be applied to Half-Life 3, and it will have a better visual and a better performance. Expand

im using an alienware with a 8800GTX 2.6core2duo with a physX card and 4mb ram and this game runs flawless and i thought the game play was fantastic, the ending kinda pissed me off but only b/c it leaves you hanging knowing that they are coming out with a sequel, im also using the g9 laser mouse and a glass steelseries mouse pad with these little feet that you glue on the bottom of your mouse which makes a big difference in the aim'ing and movement in crysis. i thought it was a good game and ive beaten it on every difficulty setting except EASY. maybe u need a rig like this to get the experience, if so ,that sucks for crytek considering that the majority of gamers are not that fortunate to spend 3-5k on a rig just to play a game. the game only crashed 1 time and that was after i had beaten it and i was showing a friend the game from a saved part of the game, figures, runs perfect then when i show it off it shits on me : but i thought it was an amazing singleplayer experience, i havent tried multiplayer yet but the tutorial looks fun. just 1 mans opinion amongst many. Aside from a brilliant engine there is a very solid well designed FPS game with a few tricks up its sleeve to make it great. The nano suit adds greater freedom to complete objectives with in the large detailed maps. With such freedom emergent gameplay is there to have. Performance will be a problem for some including myself but a stable <20 fps is all you need to enjoy playing. Multiplayer is also solid with plenty of room for playing how you want. Crysis is a great FPS built on a brilliant engine and provides many ways to complete most objectives providing a compelling experience due to it and you can`t fault the production. Expand

Simply put, this is the best shooter to come out in years. First of all the graphics are absolutely mind blowing, assuming you have a PC powerful enough to handle it, even on low they are pretty good, and the gameplay is fun the whole way through. The AI for the most part lives up to the expectations that were well touted by Crytek, and the battles never play out the same way twice. The four suit powers you have to be one of the most fun gameplay elements ever introduced in a shooter, which makes for really interesting multiplayer matches. Also, while playing the game you'll feel like you're in a really spectacular sci action film, with tons of action and breathtaking moments. Basically if you haven't played this game you're missing out. Expand

first of all here is what I am running in my system. intel core 2 duo e6600 cpu, nvidia 9600 graphics card, and 3 gigs of ram. The crazy thing about this game is that I tried to run it on a different system that had an intel quadro 3 ghz. processor and the same graphics card that I have, but it only had 1 gig or ram. The game runs perfect on my computer with virtually no lag on full graphics, but on this other computer it ran like crap. The difference being that I had 2 more gigs of RAM. If you do not have at least 2 gigs of RAm this game and most new games will run like crap, no matter what the rest of your system is like. So running this game on my system with really good frame rates I must say that the graphics for this game are deffinately the best I have ever seen. Plus this game is very long, you get a lot for you money. The story may be linear, but the game play deffinately is not you can spend your entire life running around these levels they are fricken HUGE and you dont have to progress through the levels any one way, you can use a wide range of strategies to progerss through the story. I really like the fact that this game not only had a ton of combat with human enemies, but it also has all the cool sci fi goodies that you could ever want all in one game. This game is not 100% original, it has similarities with a lot of FPS games out there. The story and graphics and gameplay all come together like a halflife halo hybrid, which is totally cool, because those are the top standars for FPS right now. I found that it was a little hard to get into this game at first, because I did not understand what was going on at first and because the game is rather difficult at first. But once I got further into it I was totally hooked. Expand

I purchased this game based upon the publicly available demo. This game is beautiful, and has a intuitive interface that makes switching between powerups (such as extra strength or extra shields) easy. The game is not very tolerant of poor decisions. If you run into big mob and try shooting your way out, then you'll be quick-loading shortly. As such, this game requires a bit of strategy on your part to succeed in the game. On the downside, the game crashes often and suffers from numerous smaller glitches. The game is worth it if you don't mind restarting the game often. Otherwise, you'd be better off waiting until Crytek makes a more reliable product. Expand

Overall, this game is just the most fun I've ever had with a singleplayer PC, I'm running a 1.86 Ghz CPU, 2.00 GB RAM, and an 8800 GT, I get 40-60 FPS SOLID! I don't see what everyone's complaining about! Honestly, I get almost no lag at all. If you DO get lag, just turn Antialiasing off, you'll barely notice a thing besides your FPS skyrocketing. I absolutely love how immersive the gameplay is. Honestly, I've never had a game that allows you to do all the things you've always wanted to do! You hear a guy behind a wall? Smash the wall down and toss him at his friends! They've spotted you in the middle of the road? Go Speed and rush into the bushes. Simply amazing gameplay, loved every single second, totally worth it as long as you hit minimum requirements. (Also, I run it at MAXIMUM graphics, not medium or low. Full maximum with the exception of Object Detail, so quit your whining, if I can run it on this 2006 hunk-o-junk, you can run it on your superadvanced rigs) Expand

The gameplay is excellent, the graphics are excellent, weapon ballistics/gore aren't that good (No object penetration, enemies take too much damage, there's next to no gore, enemies don't lose any effectiveness at all even on the brink of death). The worst part as I think most if not all people would agree in is how well the game started off and how it declined after the second half. The way you saw aztec gutted in the beginning of the game you figure your in for a survival horror treat with some sort of predatory alien which would have added even more flavor to the jungle stalking combat with the Koreans but instead you encounter flying squids with laser guns. I have a core 2 duo e6850 4 gigs of ram 9800gtx sli all liquid cooled and overclocked and this game still runs poorly. dx10 vs dx 9 shows pretty much no graphical improvements other than degraded performance. running the game on high requires me to use a lower res in order to get a decent framerate. And the game is definitely not laggy, or glitchy, it's juust that your comps are shit and you have dx9 instead of dx10(which is easy to get FYI). Honestly, you are complaining about the lag, and I here am running the game at 25-45 FPS!!!WTF? dx9, is incredibly glitchy and is shit, especially in multiplayer in which you can't break anything! NOT EVEN TREES! With the dx10 that I have, it's a whole much better experience. The story...the part that many people also said they hated. Well, I can't blame you for that, if your not interested in aliens and nonosuits. Personally, I liked it, and the aliens weren't that bad either. The plot unveils in a great way too, and can leave you wanting to replay it constantly. It's a great game, and you should buy it. Would be a 9.5 if i could chose that. It is a near perfect fps with amazing gameplay and graphics+physics that have been the benchmark/game to beat for several years. The early levels were the best, I loved how the game let you approach your objectives from so many angles. Weapon in game customization was handy dandy too.The only thing that brought this game down was the aliens and their levels. They were naught but a bunch of "flying squids with laser guns." I hate to see how bias so many people are against this game. Mostly because they cant comprehend playing on something that is not a game console or their computer is incapable of playing it. I would like to note that Nathan had some pretty not astute observations as a headshot on a human is a 1-hit kill with any weapon. Expand

Due to the open nature of the gripping single player campaign you can play the game now...then play it again on a new computer...then play it again on the computer you get after that - each time being able to run the game on higher graphics settings. Moves PC gaming up a notch; a high-end rig is needed, but that was expected and required to push graphics to the next level. Ridiculous story and steakhead script and voice acting, more campy and funny than scary. Worth your money, but won't make you think or draw you in like Bioshock or HL2. Expand

Genuinely excellent single player shooter if your PC can handle it. Beats by miles the repetitive gameplay of BioShock (nice story but as a shooter it was too easy and deeply monotonous).

You can customize your playstyle to the max, to play however you wanna play. Combine that with awesome graphics and physics and we have a winner. ...if you have the PC for it, that is.

Visually stunning with beautiful level design and a feeling of story driven non-linear content, all the best of farcry and more with non of the faults (that I can see.) A must buy if you want unadulterated unpretentious FPS action without weak, plot holed ridden stories to detract from the game play e.g Bioshock. This game that actually suffers from critisisms where others wouldn't because it looks so good people have to find fault elsewhere or overlook some of the wonderfully artistic touches that add to the immersion, with characters that although seem to boarder on sterotypes actually have a nice depth and seem to react the way one would expect given the context, mainly the English chap who is saying what I'm thinking, a game that baffles me when it gets below a 95 considering other games are achieving such scores. Graphically this is the most impressive game to date. What's most amazing is that underneath all that gloss there's actually substance to back it all up. With an excellent single player (*which by all means cries out for replay value) and an innovative multiplayer all in one package. This is definitely the best FPS of the year.

Everything has been told on stuning, astounding, amazingly awesome graphics, that's true. I'd like to unveil what's not so good (according to me) : - end of game insanely difficult, even at "easy" game setting, like Far Cry's endings - hudge environments wasted for nothing : you have no time to explore them or wander around. Just constantly kill, blow, kill, blow... And if you stop here, some NK chopper or soldier will do the job. - not the same freedom you could find in Far Cry. The A.I. doesn't allow anything than kill, blow, kill, blow.... I'll not play this game twice. This is terrible, it should deserve it ! - some NCP are insanely difficult to kill - from "easy" to "delta" setting. For example, some NK soldiers wear the same nanosuit but are far more tougher or indestructible than you ! - too much hype about this game. Yes, it's beautiful. But has also no personality. I prefer Bioshock, more endearing. - the game's end is somehow ridiculous or disappointing. - some vehicules are a real pain in the neck to drive. Nothing has change since Far Cry... worst things are.. still worst. One last word towards Crytek : "Easy" means .... Easy. Enjoy video games doesn't imply being a harcore gamer with some terrific I.Q. or being dazzingly skilled for doubleclick on $100 ultra-precision 2000 dpi laser mouse. Expand

No NASA-Computer needed to play it. It runs well with 8800GTS, Q6600, 2GB Ram. Shadows, water and post-processing @ medium, all other @ high. resolution 1280x1024., Windows XP32. With this settings, it is very good playable and it still looks brilliant.

Amazing game! The cutscenes are phantastic and the AI rocks. I didn't expect too much from the Nanosuit, as I thought it was just an overly hyped gimmick. But it turns out to actually be a load of fun and it's easy to learn.

+ Stunning Graphics and Effects + Fun and different game play + Fun and Exciting Storyline + Customize your weapons to fit your style - Some areas seemed badly optimized lowering your FPS greatly - LOD was terrible at certain areas such as mines popping up when you're right close to it - Some areas were hard and confusing.

Crysis is unbelievable. Even if the graphics weren't so spectacular, the game would still be nearly perfect. Crysis takes the best aspects from games like Battlefield 2, Halo, and Counter-Strike, and adds in superpower-like abilities from your "nanosuit" to make simply the most fun PC gaming experience out there.

This game is absolutely superb. Graphically it is the best game on the market to date, and most likely will be so for quite a while. Gameplay is absolutely intuitive in that you can finish so many levels in so many different ways. This leads to a high replayability factor. The sound in the game is topic notch, including many orchestral tunes. The value is perfect for the game, also. Multiplayer is a mix of Counter-strike and Battlefield 2. It really is a ton of fun, and can lead up to hours and hours of gaming time. Be sure not to miss this game if your computer can run it, for it is among the best first person shooters available up to this date in time. Expand

Combines the best elements of Halo, Half life, CoD, and of course Far Cry. Cutscenes are graphic and jaw-dropping. The feeling of war is only rivaled by Halo and to a lesser extent CoD. The story and the plot twists is rivaled by only Half Life. Gameplay it defeats all of them, so many ways to complete objectives. Graphic wise it dominates EVERY SINGLE GAME period. Good day!

You can't hold the high system requirements against the game. Sure, the problems some are having with SLI is a notable issue, but that aside, what is not to like? Non-linear game play (with dozens of ways of getting the job done) separates mission objectives and in-game cinematic sequences. Visually the most stunning game of the year. Fun and engaging game that has something for everyone who likes to play a first-person shooter. A cool story, tons of weapons, modifications, vehicles and explosions to blow your mind away. Scalable video settings so slower systems will still be able to play. Scaling is not bad and even includes modes for some terribly poor systems (though I can not imagine who would want to play 800x600 with just about everything turned low/off). Will be remembered as one of the greats. Expand

The best looking game ever made - without a doubt. Then that's said. The gameplay, on the other hand, I didn't find that attractive or fun. It features huge open maps, instead of the classic linear routes from other FPS's, but I honestly think I prefer the linear routes. I find myself using a lot of time just running around to get to the next "checkpoint", and while the jungle looks amazing, it gets quite old quickly. The game's big gameplay apeal is the nanosuit. Now, don't be fooled by the amazing gameplay vides you've seen, because the actual game isn't that way at all. Al your powers are (greatly) limited by a power bar. Which means "Maximum Speed" only makes you sprint about 10 meters before running low, which in fact is worse than other games with a standard stamina bar for sprinting. The "Maximum Strength" is usually only used to get past certain obstacles that you either need to smash into pieces or make a super jump over. You would think it would be awesome to smash enemies in melee, but you walk terribly slow when you aren't using maximum speed. Some would say "hey just use speed to get to them and then switch to strength!" Yes, that sounds good on the paper, but in actuality it takes about a second t switch powers, and by the time you get to him, your power bar is low, so you cant punch him. The nanosuit was a great idea, but could be implemented a lot better. The shooting in the game also seems ankward. Most weapons are surprisingly unprecise and enemies can take a huge amount of bullets before dropping dead. The AI and physics system is also below standard. The enemies sometimes behave strangly and some times you'll get frustrating by the fact that they seem to be able to see and shoot you through vegatation - even from miles away. The first part of the game takes place in an ordinary jungle, but afterwards, we get enclosed in small, boring, uninspired corridors. The developers should really have deleted this part or reworked it. It was just not fun to play. When we get out agian, it's time for the frozen paradise, which Crytek hsa bragged about for months, and I have to say they had the right to brag. With all this said, Crysis isn't a terribly game. It's above the average shooter, but could easily become so much more with a few more months of development time, but EA is known for pushing deadlines before christmas. Expand

I honestly didn't believe this game would exceed my expectations. Perhaps due to being so often dissapointed in the past, I assumed Crysis would just be a pretty looking update to Far Cry, and at first glance that is what you get. However, deeper into the single player campaign you are faced with very high octane action sequences that feel more like they are coming from you, then scripted sequences around you. The level design is still cleverly linear, however never seems to feel that way, giving you insane amount of choice on how you tackle objectives. Once you get past the overwhelming sense of openness, and instead focus on achieving your goal instead of trying to explore everything first, you'll be set for some very intense action. I definitely see myself playing through multiple times to try different approaches to situations. Of course, everything has already been said about the graphics. However, if you find you are struggling running it at anything less then High, i suggest you just play a diffrent game, and wait for the console release as you'll definitely be missing alot of what makes this game so immersing. No mid-end gaming rig can run this on maximum settings at the moment, however if you are fortunate to have a Quad Core based system, and perhaps a new 8800 GT (or two) the game will play very smoothly at high settings. I've even tweaked some more features that are only available in the maximum settings, such as sunshafts, color grading, parallax occlusion mapping, and SSAO (something to do with adding soft shading around objects) which add ALOT of depth to the games graphics. With these enabled, Its the first true next-gen looking game. Finally, the multilayer seems very in depth, and objective based, and makes the recent Quake Wars look like Team Fortress 1. I'm looking forward to playing some more. Anyone giving this game a score below 7 has either not played it or does not have a machine to do it justice. ... Now if Far Cry 2 is half as good as this. Looks nice, but other than that it's a generic shooter with a couple of interesting features that are badly implemented. While this game has the graphics and at times the intensity, it lacks depth, a story, and often ends up feeling repetitive as the open-ended areas feel more like the developers being too lazy to pace it out properly. Although the game was obviously rushed, I struggle to imagine what could possibly have prompted such a pathetic ending, which kicks you out of the game just as it looks like it's about to get interesting. Overall I say don't believe the hype. This game is fun but it gets boring very fast. The only thing that stops you from regretting buying it is the awesome map editor it comes with. Expand

Crysis is the most beautiful game I have ever seen. And the levels are huge and it's fun just to explore them before completing the objectives. I feel like I could do each level at least 5 times with different strategies and different uses of the nanosuit.

  1. Destined to be a classic, Crysis is a creative and technological marvel that eclipses every other shooter released this year. [Holiday 2007, p.60]
  2. Crysis thrives on putting the onus on you to create your own brand of action and adventure in its stunningly beautiful locations. You and the game can haphazardly create moments of such gaming brilliance that often you pretty much have to stand up and applaud. [Christmas 2007, p.44]

This is some fast, well designed gameplay with enough options to allow players to use their own style of attack with satisfying suit abilities and weapons. Crytek has upped their attention to detail in presentation and dropped the worst parts of "Far Cry's" story.
