When the really similar levels and waves of opponents get too repetitive towards the end of the game, Dark Sector's weak storyline might not be enough to carry the more fickle fan to the finish line. Still, $20 is an attractive price point for the game.
  2. If you like simple nonstop-action, combined with cool boss-fights, you're in the right place in Dark Sector. Though the story-plot appears like a bad B-movie, your character fights with a special, and very cool boomerang-weapon, the glaive. The gore-level is very high, so the game is recommended only for adults.
  3. Dark Sector is a pleasant enough distraction for any fan of action or shooting games. It's not likely to keep you busy for too long, since there's little replay value to be found.
  4. Dark Sector is an interesting action game that finally is not so enjoyable as it could be, because of its lack of contents and personality. The gunshot scenes are awesome but too reiterative, and the puzzles become too soon unsatisfactorily simple.
  5. It's a simple, stylish, enjoyable romp that will satisfy most anyone looking for something new to shoot. Or throw boomerangs into.
  6. The gameplay is quite enjoyable despite its apparent simplicity, and the best thing is the spinning glaive, the most dangerous boomerang thingy in the universe. It chops off hands, legs and heads, and when powered up can even cut people in half. Overall, Dark Sector is a very decent shooter - or slasher? [Apr 2009]
  7. This third-person action game lacks the compelling storyline that it alludes to early on, but offers plenty of enjoyable combat nonetheless.
  8. The saving grace of the game comes from the fact that it is, on occasion, fun. It could have been better, sure, but, well… it isn't. So you either are a diehard fan of 3rd person shooters and will get it because there isn't much to play this time of year anyway, or you'll probably just wait for the price to drop.
  9. During the first four chapters, almost everything about Dark Sector is wrong: Boring levels, boring weapons and complicated controls. After he commits a murder for no apparent reason even the main character becomes unlikeable. It all gets better later on, but there's a lot of wasted potential.
  10. No one will be surprised, no one will be disappointed. Do not expect miracles and Dark Sector will reward you with fast and brutal action for more than ten hours. Thumbs up for Glaive-related puzzles. [Apr 2009]
  11. Dark Sector isn't a terrible game. It's just a game that is built around one great idea and surrounded by mediocrity.

If you ignored Dark Sector on consoles, have a reasonable PC, and are itching for a solid action game during a slow release month like April, that meager price tag will not steer you wrong. However, if you've already experienced Dark Sector once, there's really no reason for you to bother with this port.
  13. A boring game. [Aug 2009, p.72]
  14. It's repetitive, mindless, claustrophobically linear, over-stylised and incoherent. [June 2009, p.93]
  15. Predictable from the get-go, wrapped in a blanket of tired clichés, without an ounce of adrenaline in its blood, Dark Sector has finally surfaced after eight years of oblivion, yet nobody seems to care.

  1. Very nice game, the storyline is okay, the graphics aren't bad for 2009 but I personally don't care at all about graphics, the controls are good, I love swinging around my blade and controlling it in mid air, the game is gory and I love it! the amount of blood in the game satisfies me and the game is really fun, I don't understand why the low scores on this game, this game is **** awesome! 2. good sound effects, bad voiceacting. nice graphics for a low budget game, animations are moderate with a few weird looking bugs. they ai is pretty bad. the controls are easy. i guess with a few changes the game actually would be fun to play, BUT unless you really save your ammo, you will have to kill most of the enemies with the almost useless boomerang knife. that takes ages and is pretty annoying. all together i would say, you dont miss out anything if you dont buy it. 3. For $5.00 or less this is an alright game. The storyline in negligible, and doesn't really go anywhere, it feels like if there were four dark sector books, and then they decided to make a crappy game adaptation of the fifth. As far as the gameplay is concerned, its pretty solid, combat and movement is smooth, and weapons and enemy are well balanced with each other. Graphically it fairly good looking, even on consoles. To sum it up, the story is crap, but the game itself is fun enough that i played it twice, and I just bought it on steam cause its $2.50 right now. If you're a working person who has to budget the time you have to play games, then pass on this one. If you have ample time for gaming, then this is certainly worth playing through, if the price is right of course. Full Review »
