  1. Most players probably won't have the patience to deal with the controls, which are cumbersome at best, so only the most hardcore adventure fiend will find any semblance of enjoyment here.

I spent my first hour in Dead Reefs spinning my character in circles while trying to WASD him through doors. [Oct 2007, p.66]
  3. Overall, Dead Reefs offers plenty of atmosphere that teases with its potential, but really suffers from its make-shift story and weak gameplay, made worse still with poor controls.

It’s a dull story that takes an unpredictably fantastic turn at the end that doesn’t fit with the rest of the standard mystery presentation. Add to that some boring animations and terrible camera work and you’re on your way to a below average game.

You are forced to do things in sequence unnecessarily, and against logic. If you miss something or do something out of sequence it's possible that you can't go back and the game dead ends. Greatly disappointed. Full Review »

Then I couldn't control it - for some reason the keys had been mapped for several different commands. Fortunaltely, choosing the default sorted this out. The graphics on a whole aren't bad, with some nice water effects. The dialogue however is a bit stilted and the rather dodgy English voices spoil the atmosphere. The controls (similar to Broken Sword 3) work okay, but it is still difficult to control. The story is rather linear, and the puzzles range from easy to infuriatingly obscure. Not bad. Interesting story, but there are better examples out there. Full Review »
