  1. It grabs hold of the intangible elements of interactive entertainment -- atmosphere, compelling gameplay, and emotion -- and runs with them.
  2. 80
It provides simple, addictive gameplay for the novice with enough depth for all but the most spreadsheet-crazed war gamer.
  3. The exceedingly detailed characters have been perfectly animated, and simply look great regardless of whether they are wielding their swords and axes or casting spells.
  4. A remarkable, well-designed program. It is challenging and entertaining.
  5. DP is addictive. Sitting down to play through a few turns can easily suck hours from your life as a "few turns" becomes 50 turns.
  6. A fascinating game that provides a tremendous amount of gameplay.
  7. 87
This is an addictive, gorgeous, and challenging game that shoves a pie in the face of those that continue to foster the notion that turn-based strategy gaming is dead.
  8. 86
One of the more addictive and entertaining strategy titles I've played in quite a while.
  9. It's one of those very rare computer games that draws on all the usual fantasy conventions but presents them in truly inspired, artistic form...[It] has an elegant simplicity about it.
  10. The turn based strategy game was surprisingly fast paced-there is so little waiting that I almost felt like I was playing an RTS.
  11. This game gave me a new respect for turn-based strategy.
  12. Titles such as "Etherlords" have blown the genre open, and in comparison Disciples II seems markedly dated.
  13. Outstanding in every way. All of the story elements, fantasy fiction races, and winning design elements have been retained, albeit in greatly enhanced forms that make everything feel fresh.

You won't hear complaints about the graphics, which are absolutely gorgeous. For one, there is a certain style to the artwork; it's not quite anime, but it does have a hint of it.
  15. A satisfying, complete, and reassuringly familiar gaming experience.
  16. For well-crafted turn-based strategy with stunning artwork and powerful AI, Disciples II is the way to go. [Apr 2002, p.70]
  17. The most remarkable aspect of Disciples II is how carefully all of the units have been balanced. [May 2002, p.82]

A wonderful masterpiece by Strategy First. To anyone who played the or
iginal, Disciples Sacred Lands, you'll know exactly what you are getting into. Disciples 2: Dark Prophecy is for all intents and purposes a straight up upgrade over the first. With an interesting storyline revolving around 4 very charming factions, ranging from dwarves to demonic legions, it is mostly in text format but certainly worth going through. Not the least because of the amazing and outstanding atmosphere of Disciples 2. The isometric map feels oddly alive and sinister, the music is great and the art style is very well done. The one downside this has is that items can be easy to miss on the actual map, with groups of enemies hidden behind objects. Gameplay itself is all about your base, the map but most importantly you units. Disciples 2 is a slow game, leveling and training your leader and his units takes quite a significant time investment but it's a joy to do so. Combat on the other hand is very quick. Units do not actually move around in combat and combat itself is also done in turns, and if you pick the wrong target or neglected to use an item for one turn you can quickly end up losing the encounter. Furthermore, Disciples 2 adds the ability to defend and 'wait', subtle improvements over Disciples Sacred Lands that add a new depth to the combat. A slow, slow game. But a fantastic one at that. Great turn based strategy, fantastic atmosphere. Definitely one to buy. Full Review »

Great graphics for its time. Turn base is a very fun game style. The only con is the battles are not very detailed i would of liked to see the characters at least attack the selected character instead of attack nothing right in front of them. (for some ranged units and fighters). Full Review »
