Downfall is a deep dive into frame of mind and deeper aspects of the human brain. As a remake, it brings several changes, apart from technical improvements. Whoever loves horror games cannot miss this one.

An overlooked adventure gem that won't amaze with its technical side or puzzles, but with its story, dialogues and characters – precisely the features a quality adventure game needs.

It's a nice way to get back to the Quiet Haven Hotel. A good 2D graphic adventure.

Downfall is self-aware and does exactly what it intends to do: provide a psychological thrill ride.

American Horror Adventure: Grotesque, bizarre and disturbing. But on the other hand hopelessly outdated and too conventional in its puzzle mechanics.

Genius. From storyline to characterisation, imagery to subject matter, absolute genius.
Fancy a journey into the deeply disturbing depths of psychosis, the dark reaches of sexual politics? This is a trip like no other...a white knuckled ride with a one way ticket all the way down.
Despite rudimentary and sometimes clunky controls, this is a compelling and original title that shares the same universe as its sister title, the epic "The Cat Lady".
Downfall manages to be extremely funny sad troubling surreal and horrific and, like "The Cat Lady", is unmistakably and quintessentially English. Harvester games are to be applauded.

Dark setting, unexpected story twists, music, which makes every situation feel extremely realistic are the essence of it. You literally experience same feelings with the characters as you progress through this amazing story. Genius hand-drawn backgrounds demonstrate what a great amount of effort is required to make gamers believe that characters could be alive and the entire story could happen to anyone of us. Im also familiar with the original game. Both of them are incomparable. While the first one was a sketch, a try to make something unique out of nothing, this remake is surely pretending to be a masterpiece even though it has some important disadvantages. I wish I could compare it with Silence of the Sleep, but apparently these two are absolutely different.
Great storytelling, various endings, depending on your personal choice of actions throughout the game, deserve 8 of 10, indeed.

There are different routes or options you can choose at plot points of this game that change how you beat the game and which ending you get. I think there is a total of 5 endings.
The game is short, I beat it in a 3-4 hour sitting from beginning to end. The unique story and hand drawn backgrounds are probably the best part of this game. There are something like 70~ hand drawn pictures used for all the backgrounds in the game. Some of the backgrounds have vibrant colors, some are completely washed out of color, some are distorted to fit the setting of the game it really feels like it gives this game personality.
There are no voice overs which was slightly disappointing considering this game came out in 2009 although one could argue that adding voice overs could ruin the creepy mood of the game a bit. I also wish that a bit more of this world could have been explored instead of having it be a 3-4 hour experience. I had several problems starting this game and googling my problems didn't help me at all. If you have any problems with setting the resolution of this game just set it to 640 by 480 in fullscreen. The game surprisingly fits this resolution well my only complaint about it was its hard to navigate the inventory at the top of the screen (but at least its playable!).
If you liked this game try out Harvester Games' new title The Cat Lady, it makes reference to at least one of the characters in Downfall, although I still haven't beaten the game at this time. I enjoyed Downfall and rate it a 8/10, its worth your time if you are into Horror/Mature/Gore games, if you are interested in a different stylized game with its twisted hand drawn backgrounds, and if you are just looking for a different experience compared to your average adventure game.
