Drug Wars (2009) Image
  • Summary: In 3100 A.D., global warming has caused the sea level to rise and engulf the streets of Brooklyn. The land is gone, but society rebuilds the city on top of existing structures, connecting buildings through a network of sky bridges. As the upper class literally moves higher, law enforcement abandons the lower parts of the city, and its less-affluent inhabitants. To meet the upper city's demand for laborers, city leaders contract the Brooklyn Institute of Technology (B.I.T.) to clone a new working class. At the time, the B.I.T. Labs had made incredible advances in cloning; Neanderthals were chosen as the main focus of the research based on their physical resilience. The city's contract called for far more Neanderthal clones than were required, causing the excess and sub-standard Neo-Neanderthals to be discarded to the dregs of the city. The well established mob entity known as the Merchants of Brooklyn saw a lucrative opportunity here - use the bottom dwellers for high stakes fights to the death. It became the new sport of under-city kings. In MERCHANTS OF BROOKLYN, You take the role of an elite Neanderthal fighter with a taste for blood. Having had your arm unwillingly detached from your body courtesy of a chainsaw, your new prototype biomechanical arm transforms into different twisted and brutal weaponry to aid you in the slaughter. Your goal: escape from the under city and free your brethren to take over the upper utopian empire to do with as you please. [Paleo Entertainment] Expand

  1. A fun -- if short -- little indie with some interesting ideas behind it falls flat on its face on technical execution and pricing issues.
  2. It's a shooter utilizing the CryEngine 2 and featuring one hard-as-nails mega-macho-man with a huge gun for a hand. If this description made you smile, you'll cringe anyway when you see how many bugs can be squeezed into every single map and how thinly can a texture be drawn. [May 2009]
  3. MoB's terrific art style and wanton dismemberment are completely wasted on this overwhelmingly inadequate shooter. [July 2009, p.82]

I personally thought this game was fun. Yes the game had quite a few bugs, but I don't like the idea of basing the score off the bugs and glittches. Expand

Great Idea, Bad Mechanics. Paid $15 for it on steam.. Eh, wasn't all that bummed in the game. Its fun, Im sure the multiplayer would be great if it had a community. Great concept for a game, nice work with the crytek 2 engine. Gibs are always fun if your into arena FPSs and turning body parts into bombs is fun.Bugs galore, bad mapping, world leaks in several maps. 6 for the shear brutality of the game. Expand

Graphics poor. Game crashes repeatedly. Sound and sound samples are repetitive and of poor quality. Gameplay is slow, repetitive, and non-entertaining. If you can get this game to work for more than 10 minutes, you will already be bored out of your skull. Expand
