    I really liked Flotilla. At first, it's a bit confusing, but you quickly get the hang of battling in space- all directions. The entertaining casual storyline also makes it interesting, running into cats, crocodiles, space pirates, and the authorities. I would defiantly get this game again. As I'm writing this, the game's on sale, so you should check it out.

    When you first play Flotilla, it's a nice game. Space combat feels fresh and polished. However, about 2 hours into the game you will realize that there is no option to save and each 'game' lasts a few minutes and then you have to restart all over again. At first I looked in the forums to find a save feature, but I couldn't find one. This game could have easily been a full blown space RPG, but in it's current form I just can't recommend it unless you have plenty of cash to burn.… Expand

    Flotilla is a turn-based space-combat role-playing game where the player jumps from planet to planet on a 2D map with 3D models after learning that he is a terminally ill space-captain of two Destroyer-class vessels which are fast and armed with long-range missiles but not very durable nor effective unless given a flanking roll. Each planet represents either combat (Red ring) or a choice to be made in a text-window (White ring). Sometimes the text-window leads to combat depending on what kind of response the player chooses. Combat is turn-based and takes place in 3 dimensions and both players move at once. At the start of each turn, you assign each ship a move order and a firing order. Both the AI and the player will attempt to navigate their ships through space where the goal is to not take any hits by manoeuvring your ship in such a way that its bottom and rear armour are covered. After issuing an order, the player will not be able to adjust tactics for 30 seconds. Once these 30 seconds are over, another move and fire order can be issued to each ship still standing. Rinse and repeat until all enemy ships are destroyed. Ship losses are permanent. Lose all the ships and you lose the game. During your travels, you will find new equipment and opportunities to increase the size of your fleet. however, as mentioned earlier on; you are terminally ill. At some point, the game will simply flick a kill-switch and you will lose the game.On non-hardcore mode this will happen before you manage to explore even 1/5th of the planets on your map. Despite the game offering you new ships for your fleet and equipment that upgrade their (already present) abilities, it does not allow you to save the game. It also does not offer you a way to find a cure for your disease. I feel that the developer was close to developing a Homeworld 3 but fell short of the mark. Perhaps he wasn't sure if he could pull it off or perhaps he intended to torture players of Flotilla with visions of what could have been. Either way, Flotilla is worth playing. Despite the kill-switch, (Play on Hardcore for a chance to visit each planet. Just do not visit the trader too often as this counts towards the maximum amount of turns you may spend on the system map before you die. The regular mode is a waste of time.) the lack of a save-game option, simplistic graphics (Could the developer not have slapped on some real textures?) and its satirical theme, it is an entertaining game with some very interesting space-combat.… Expand

    This is a well polished, beautiful game by Blendo games. The combat is fun after you get a hold of the way you control your ships. Great for when you have an hour or two to blow. I really wish there was more depth of missions, but the skirmish alone is fun. I can't speak for the mods. The bad part is the really flat campaign.

    It's a shame it remains such a one-trick-pony, but at this price tag, you really shouldn't be expecting anything else.

    Experimental space strategy amuses in the beginning but unfortunately is pretty much confusing and stereotypical when boredom enters the scene early. [Issue#190]
