Finally, this game deserves the highest score I can give. The things that really matter are here. For those who enjoy this type of RPG, this game offers an experience you shouldn't pass up.
I laugh hard at these negative reviews. People complaining about this game forcing you to figure out how to progress on your own. This is Gothic STRENGHT, not weakness, you goofballs. People complaining about creatures being too strong. This is exacly why Gothic is so much better than most other RPGs - you think "oh no, how on earth am I going to ever kill this god damn orc, It's impossible!". Then you realize not every creature is yours to kill yet, you got to use your brain a bit in order to get that sweet xp. And then, after carefully getting some levels and gear, you sidestep that freaking orc and mincemeat mofo BAH BAH BAH like an absolute gigachad! Best feeling ever 10/10 must play.
Has some great content and quest progression lying underneath an incredibly clunky exterior. If the combat didn't have such a high learning curve, the difficulty ramped up a bit slower, and the interface wasn't terrible, this would be a pretty good game.
Provided you have the necessary levels of patience, Gothic 2 inexorably draws you in. It’s resolutely old-fashioned without being tired, and credits you with, gasp, some intelligence instead of handing over every little thing on a plate. Now if just one single MMORPG could be this good.
One of the biggest design differences between Gothic II and practically all other RPGs is that it doesn't ramp up in difficulty as you go. Encounters are tough in the beginning, often overwhelming, and don't get easier as your skills improve.
With character models that look like they crawled off the Dreamcast, muddy textures and minor but frequent collision issues, this is not exactly a pretty game. [Jan 2004, p.70]
Easily one of the best RPGs of all time. Oozes character and awesomeness at every step thanks to its decent story, interesting world and great overall atmosphere. Offers some quite memorable moments in any game (like its predecessor) and is a truly open-world RPG in the same sense as Elden Ring for instance, not a sandbox-RPG hybrid nonsense that people have seen in recent times, which tend to offer less satisfying experiences for me (like modern Assassins' Creed games, for instance). Exploring this world is one of the most pleasant memories of my childhood gaming that I keep with me...
Gothic 2 is a worthy sequel to the first game, with a more detailed world and more polished controls, Gothic 2 is an immersive RPG game. It's hindered unfortunately by it's difficulty, which is flat out unfair at times. Still, it continues the story well and has a great twist at the end that sets up the events of Gothic 3.

Regeln verstanden?
Dann sind hier meine Punkte.
Mein persönlicher Score = 73/100

I only experienced the second game shortly after my disappointment with the first, and my only expectation was that it would be a noticeable improvement over the first Gothic. Indeed, I noticed some improvements in the first hours.
The controls were now a bit better than in the first game and not as challenging as in the first game. Also, the story continued right from the end of the first game, and overall I think the music and atmosphere was just as good as the first one. But other than that, nothing else was improved.
In fact, it got worse in terms of the pacing of the character's progression. Really the pacing was much worse. In the early 2nd game you're thrust into a big city without any direction on what to do.
You're just told to go and press x, y and z. However, when you try to find clues on how to do the main missions, the game literally leaves you alone to figure it out for yourself. Now this is incredibly frustrating, especially for a new player.
Do I have to talk to every NPC in town hoping that they can tell me something useful about even the smallest things in the game? I understand the open world gameplay and logic, but the player still needs some guidance.
If the game isn't going to try and draw me in with its story, why should I keep going, hoping that it will get interesting in the end? It's just that it's incredibly slow at the beginning and you'll soon lose interest in the game. In short, even if you have some free time, stay away from Gothic 2 just like the first game.
Looks like all of the negative scores don't have any reviews, so I'll be brave and post the first one. Only tried the game out recently and was hoping it'd be an improvement over the first Gothic. As a matter of fact, there were some improvements. The controls are a bit better now and aren't as tricky as in the first game. Also the story carries on from the first right away and I generally thought that the music and the atmosphere were as good as in the first one. However, nothing else had improved. In fact, in terms of pacing it got even worse. Much worse. Now you're thrust right into a huge city without any direction as to what to do. Or in fact, you are told to go and do x, y, and z. However, when you try to find out how to get those tasks done, the game just shrugs and tells you to find it out by yourself. Now this is incredibly boring. Do I have to go around and talk to every NPC in the city in a hope that at least one of them can tell me something useful? I understand open gameplay and all, but it still needs some direction. If the game isn't going to bother to captivate and immerse me, then why should I continue to plough on, hoping that eventually it would get interesting? It's just incredibly slow paced. If you are someone who wants to get right into the game and do interesting stuff, then I'd avoid Gothic 2 for sure. Now I've still got Gothic 3 left. I'm just hoping at least that would be an improvement over 1 and 2.
SummaryGothic II takes you on an even greater journey of adventure and discovery. The plot continues from the cliff-hanger of the original: After the imprisoned colony members are victorious, collapsing the magical barrier, the former Prison Colony is struck by a terrible earthquake, claiming the lives of many. The majority of survivors seize t...
