If you've ever wanted to get into a non-combat flight simulator but thought it sounded too difficult or esoteric, Flight is one to try out. After all - the price is right, and flying planes is so much darn fun!

Flight is a waste of time.
  3. Mar 8, 2012
Microsoft is attempting to do pretty much everything the purists will hate with Flight, but everything that is necessary to save the IP. How well it's doing it is open to debate, and much will reside on what steps it takes next with the DLC. At present, it's not really a simulation, and nor is it fully convincing as a game experience. But it's definitely no longer scary and that, at least, is a step in the right direction.

This is a flight sim light on content, but it's not like you have to pay for it, is it? [May 2012, p.102]
  5. Apr 8, 2012
In an attempt to make their flight simulator more accessible to a wider audience, they subsequently made it unrealistic for flight fanatics, as well as uninteresting to a larger audience due to a lack of gameplay elements.
  6. Mar 30, 2012
This is not a real simulation, but there is also very little action to be found. ... Nothing here is really bad, but it looks more like the basic structure for something that one day may be… well, something. I hope Microsoft has a plan of what this future game might be like, because I don´t really have a clue. But it sure would be sad to see this time-honored franchise just fade away like this.

Microsoft Flight is a good mix between simulation and accessibility, with a well crafted graphics. Unfortunately there is a lack of contents, both free and premium, that put in perspective the quality of the game.
  8. Mar 14, 2012
Flight is best sampled in its freebie guise.
  9. Mar 13, 2012
Fly the much friendlier skies with Microsoft Flight, which is more structured than its simulation-heavy predecessors.
  10. Mar 12, 2012
As an introduction to flight simulation, Microsoft Flight does a sterling job. It is immediately accessible and offers a gentle but genuine challenge. Veteran pilots may find its leaning towards arcade-type challenges a bit of a turn off at first, but flight stick compatibility, a versatile free flight mode, and aerocache hunting all indicate the presence of a deeper game with lasting appeal.
  11. Mar 12, 2012
Flight has nothing to do with Flight Simulator and the sooner people realise that the better.
  12. Mar 12, 2012
A sizeable free slice of casual flying.
  13. Mar 12, 2012
Flight intends to carve out a niche for pilots who want a more casual, friendly, and inclusive sim, and that's something that's never really been done before. In a best-case scenario, Flight could introduce this genre to gamers who typically have brushed it aside under the assumption that it's too hardcore.
  14. Feb 29, 2012
Microsoft Flight is a good game especially aimed for those newcomers to the genre who want to learn to fly. However, those veterans who are looking for a deep simulator may get dissapointed by the simplicity of the game. Its free-to-play approach is good news, although the content if very limited for those not willing to pay.
  15. Feb 29, 2012
Microsoft Flight presents an interesting initial offer that, if enriched constantly through the promised DLCs, will capture the attention of fans of the genre and expand its audience.
  16. Feb 29, 2012
Microsoft Flight, despite being a free to play game, has a low amount of content, which will hopefully come later on with various add ons. However, this is a free game that deserves a chance and should be played by everyone at least for a few hours.
  17. Jul 29, 2012
The Microsoft Flight's offer is rather poor, however, thanks to a well-structured and deep gameplay and an excellent technical department, the title cut its market share.
  18. Apr 27, 2012
It might have had a bumpy take-off, but with a bit of hard work Flight should grow into a competent sim worth flying. [May 2012, p.56]
  19. LEVEL (Czech Republic)
    Apr 25, 2012
Empty and almost useless game offers little reason to try it, even for a weekend player – despite the fact that the basic version is free. [Apr 2012]
  20. CD-Action
    Apr 12, 2012
The flight model is Microsoft Flight's biggest advantage, as the game is very enjoyable regardless of whether you're a newbie using a mouse for a controller, or a simulation maniac. A promising start to what might evolve into something big. [May 2012, p.73]
  21. Games Master UK

A beautiful, thoughtful title that eschews hardcore sim for fun videogame. [May 2012, p.95]

you could say that "Flight" has done the things that FSX should do, but before you say "FINALLY!" learn that "Flight" compromises everythingyou could say that "Flight" has done the things that FSX should do, but before you say "FINALLY!" learn that "Flight" compromises everything else. Free to play games are dominating the market. Many of those are sneaky and wont let you win if you dont pay, others do this model just right with being fair with free players. Flight doesn't fall in any of those categories and the reason for this is that its a glorified demo and not a freemium game. the only difference is that unlike other demos you will never get a full game, but rather buy content for expanding the demo. needles to say that this might be very expensive than just buying a full game Sure, i gave this game a chance. i said "ok how bad could it be?" thinking that the initial reports of what the beta included(just two planes) was not what the final game will have. i was mistaken. indeed there are just two planes and the world is as dead as it gets, no AI airtraffic, no cars on the road or boats in the sea and total lack of animal life. Another compromise done is the realism. its not realistic while its not arcady either. it just cannot decide what it is. it has an identity crisis. you will stall, but you cannot overstress the aircraft? what kind of sorcery is this?! to change the mood a bit, the scenery is well designed and the aircraft look gorgeous, and best of all the performance is smooth and way better than dear old FSX, and that's where the good things end. the sound? yes, the sound is good especially the engine sounds of the aircraft, beyond that there's the music which another problem are the missions and challenges. they get repetitive while absurdly enough, most missions that already exist in the game require an aircraft you must buy for real money. there is also a leveling system in place. that means in order to do some challenges and missions you must be in the proper level and this could mean you would have to grind. yes, this is not a typing error, grind in a game like this. last but not least the false advertisement and MS herself. we got tons of sugar coated news on how Flight is reconsieved and renovated and how is meant for old and new fans, but it turns out its not like this at all. the game is not an advancement rather a significant downgrade and with its realism stripped out(both in physics and world) and its limited scale, Flight deserves the dislike of old fans. MS seems to have asked the marketing department rather the fans or devs, she bullied third party devs and required them to accept preposterous terms in order to let them make content for Flight. in the end this whole DLC model is as stupid as the people that decide to make money out of it and the people who would pay for it. So I give this game a 8... Plus 2 Points because of all the people who misunderstand it ;) It's called "Flight" and not "MS Flight Simulator"So I give this game a 8... Plus 2 Points because of all the people who misunderstand it ;) It's called "Flight" and not "MS Flight Simulator" for a reason. This is a causal flight arcade/simulation mash up. It is for all the non hardcore flight simpletons light me who want to fly around a bit without all the simulation stuff. But I understand why the simulator community is pissed, it has been too long since the last proper MS simulation. Oh and Flight is free 2 play so just dl and see for yourself =) Full Review »
