  1. With fantastic visual and audio elements (setting a new standard), an engrossing story, an intuitive interface, and amazing overall polish, Myst IV Revelation has all the makings of a real winner. However, the tortuous difficulty posed by many of the puzzles, even for those with considerable logical abilities, detracts from the mainstream appeal of this offering.
  2. If, however, you've played Myst before and hated it for its slow pace, its limited movement and the distinct lack of (perceived) gameplay, then this new version will do nothing to change your mind. [Dec 2004, p.88]
  3. Aesthetically, Myst IV never fails to impress, but hunting for a switch or puzzle clue among the beautiful environments often comes down to simply sweeping the disembodied hand down the screen in the hope of finding something rather than relying on initiative and logic, fundamental aspects of the series that seem strangely absent outside the game's core puzzles.
  4. Revelation repeats the formula of breathtaking visuals and oblique puzzles. But despite its success, the game remains an acquired taste - slow-paced and full of obtuse brain teasers.
  5. Myst stood for inventiveness and creation of many well formed ideas. Now it looks like a carbon copy of many of its previous releases!

The puzzles do not always flow People who hate this game went straight back to DOOM3 or Halo when they quit Revelation in frustration. The puzzles do not always flow seemlessly into the world as in previous Myst games (so the frustration index rises), but the general engrossment remains from earlier efforts. Full Review »
