  1. The complete freedom of movement, absorbing storyline, gorgeous graphics, entrancing musical score, and, yes, brain-melting puzzles make this a real treat for your mind and your eye.
  2. If you enjoy games like Myst, RHEM or Riven (and of course Schizm); then there is no doubt you will enjoy this. I do, and I did. The 3D engine can't help but add to the experience.
  3. The unique story line, tried and true gameplay, and good graphics will please. However non-adventure fans will probably have a problem getting into the game.
  4. A lot like a mediocre sci-fi novel. It has a great atmosphere, some fascinating and innovative tech stuff but flat characters and a mundane storyline that ultimately kill its potential.
  5. Definitely meant for hardcore adventure players, and anyone who has good experience solving puzzles. It offers both an attractive if not overly compelling storyline, great-looking graphics and good (although as I've stated above, very hard) puzzle elements.

A game that all serious puzzle fanatics were waiting for. It offers evil, sadistic brain exercises, which will prove challenging even for the most experienced gamers.
  7. The adventure game for hardcore adventure enthusiasts – it’s a long and tough trek, but a journey worth taking if you can look past the rough edges.
  8. Puzzle freaks only need apply - unless you're prepared to use a walkthrough.
  9. Contains some of the most fiendishly difficult puzzles imaginable. Even after you understand the solution to many of them, you will probably tear your hair out in frustration trying to solve them. [Mar 2004, p.76]

The developers did a great job improving the story in Mysterious Journey II, but I was still left as frustrated with the puzzles as I was in the original.
  11. One big graphical and phonetic experience. If you like to solve logic-based puzzles and didn’t play hooky during your math lessons then this game really is a must. But be aware; besides your own calculation skills, this game requires quite some capacity from your computer and video card as well.
  12. It's filled with lots of arbitrary, convoluted, brutally tough puzzles, though. In fact, you could say this is really a puzzle game masquerading as an adventure game.
  13. The environments, while beautiful, are disappointingly void of interaction, and the story, while interesting, is wholly irrelevant to the gameplay. [Mar 2004, p.81]
  14. While the game is well designed and looks pretty good, it is incredibly hard and has some performance issues. An adventure game should be challenging, but not require a Ph.D. in astrophysics to beat.
  15. Sadly, the largely static emotion of the narrative and the inconsequential nature of the puzzles don’t flesh out the story to great effect, turning this game into just an average game, rather than a great one.
  16. Twitch-based gamers who do have the latest and greatest graphics cards won't have the patience for the punishing puzzles, and those who play games for story will find themselves rolling their eyes until they fall out of their sockets at the clichés and the horrible dialog.
  17. Even worse are the ridiculously tough environmental puzzles. Unless you're a member of MENSA, chances are you'll need a walkthrough to finish the game. [Mar 2004, p.62]
  18. Like a weak and very old dinosaur that's been resurrected only to find that after years of evolution, it's still the weakest leak in the chain, forever destined to be outdone by stronger and sturdier counterparts.

  1. I just finished this game. Essentially I didn’t have to use any walkthroughs, which means that the puzzles are fair and logical enough to be solved. There are about 25 to 30 puzzles. Half of them are fairly easy. However there are a few which require certain amounts of mathematical and logical thinking. Overall I find the game very challenging enough to play and rewarding when I finished it. If you like this type of the games, you will find it as one of the best of this kind. However, if you are not fond of this type of the games, the game will not take you anywhere and you will surely find the game very annoying and frustrating. The graphics are good enough and the control is smooth enough if you play the game with a modern computer. I bought the game from gamersgate.com for only $2.99 when it was on sales. The game is completely DRM free and run perfectly on my windows 7 64bit computer with minor modifications (I had to add binkw32.dll in the game folder). I will give it 10 because I enjoyed it so much. However this game chooses who is going to play it. Full Review »
