What struck me most was the potential. Omerta is a good game but if it succeeds, it has the potential to be a great game. Add opposing AI gangs and allow for turf wars to occur, shrink the building sizes on the strategic maps and give players control over many more buildings, and you have a strategy title that has no equal and is infinitely playable.

Nice gangster-setting and easy to learn gameplay-mechanics. The game mixes tactical combat like in Jagged Alliance with a strategical management of your gangster-business. Unfortunately the gameplay itself isn’t that challenging or going in depth as it could be.

Strategic part is about as exiting as Excel, but that's what you get when you have no enemies and no fear of losing. The idea on turn-based combat is to create a system of many variables, not a turn based version of simplistic real time battle. The new XCOM got it wrong, too, so please copy the old masters, don't please the simpletons. [March 2013]

It could have been a modern version of Hothouse Creations’ Gangsters 2 mixed with XCOM. But what you get is rather superficial in every aspect. The turn based battles suffer from an inconsequent and sometimes broken cover system, while the business aspects don’t offer any challenge at all.

  1. Very enjoyable game, though I can understand that not everyone would like it. If you like turn based combat games, like X-Com, you'll like this game. It isn't perfect but it's definitely a lot of fun! Expand

I like the game quite a bit. Is it perfect? No. It could be a bit more challenging, and it lacks a little depth in my opinion. However, that being said it's an enjoyable game with a number of great features. The music, setting and overall concept are fun and well thought out, there are just a few problems in execution. I do wish there was more extensive Co-op options. Expand
  3. I have played this game for about 8 hours so far and I have mixed feelings about it. The combat is very mediocre and I skip it whenever I can. I think the strong suit of the game relies in the economy of the game. That said it is extremely repetitive. There isn't much to build or manage and they make up for it by just making you start over for every mission. I really wish there was more of a persistent world thing going on. It's pretty simple and easy to learn but it is lacking a lot of depth which makes it mind numbingly boring after a while if you are a strategy game fan. One gripe I have is about unique weapons. Maybe I accidentally skipped something but I haven't found a single one yet and I've done a bunch of missions that say I get one in those missions. I end up buying most of the property on the map before I move on too, so I don't know. Would be okay if this was a 19.99 game instead of a 39.99 game. It just doesn't have much lasting appeal. Expand
  4. The user reviews on the front page are pretty accurate. The game WOULD be fun, but there's just not enough content. It's set up basically as challenge missions. Once you pay a deputy off at the start of the mission, you can go crazy robbing everything in the zone, when an investigation opens up on you, just ask the deputy for a favor and it magically goes away.

I was really looking forward to this game because there were a few games similar to it released way back. If you want to enjoy this game, then I suggest checking out Gangsters (released way back in '98 though, but it's still better than this.
