  • Summary: A real-time trading simulation featuring elements of construction and the historical background of maritime trade in the North European area between London and Novgorod during the 1300's. As a citizen of a medieval town, the aim of the game is to rise from the status of a simple trader to that of a big businessman and perhaps to the head of the Hanseatic League. 1. One of the best strategy titles of the year…an out-and-out classic. [Feb 2002, p.65]
  2. This game is truly a remarkable trade sim, and the number options available to you through the course of this game is staggering. While the game is not without it's problems, they are easy to overlook in light of the many strong points of the game.
  3. 83
The downside to this aspect of the game is that (as mentioned) it can be downright frustrating to get to the point where you are actually even a minor 'player' on this regional stage.
  4. Patrician II successfully blends trading, city-building, and simple ship combat in a way that's constantly engaging.
  5. It has a depth few games of this genre can match. Fewer still can equal the level of micromanagement. [Feb 2002, p.92]
  6. Relatively unique in the fact that it makes clear use of the Hanseatic League and has many references to the history of that large organization, this title still fails to present worthwhile gameplay, leaving the character to shuttle supplies from town to town, without much reward or entertainment value.
  7. There really is just too much here to form one coherent game.

Tough to learn; contains difficult strategies too; but is terrific once you are into it.

The most complex and interesting trading game I've ever played. I agree with the others that the learning curve is steep, but you can enjoy it along the way. Expand

It's great. It takes time to learn the game, but its worth it.
