  • Summary: Prisoner of War captures the intrigue, danger and heroism of Allied escape attempts from prisoner of war camps during World War II, including Colditz - the Germans highest security "escape-proof" camp. Gameplay delivers a tense 3rd person stealth adventure game where bravery, stealth and cunning will win the day. [Codemasters] Expand

  1. A very good 3rd person sneaker filled with action, suspense, and with enough missions to hold you attention for several days.
  2. Would have benefited from a little more graphical polish, but the weather and lighting effects do create a strong atmosphere. [Dec 2002, p.122]

Control of the camera can be problematic at times, ranging from a minor distraction in some situations to a major problem in others.
  4. The game isn’t about guns, action, blood and mayhem. It’s a game dealing with stealth in its purest form.
  5. As mentioned earlier, the first couple of hours are novel and motivating, but the next twenty, through four major missions, are much less involving.
  6. With outdated graphics that showcase choppy animations and low-resolution textures, and below average audio, plagued by horrible voice acting, the game’s presentation fails.
  7. No, you never, ever get a weapon. All you do is creep around avoiding conflict. This is supposed to be suspenseful. It's not. It's tedious. [Jan 2003, p.102]

After I completed all 5 chapters, I thought: Prisoner of War is the perfect stealth game.

In this game the core element is sneaking. Sometimes its engaging, but sometimes its frustrating, but the developers were kind enough to lend you some passwords in case you want to give up on it. The idea is amazing, POW camps , escape planning and missions , all full of suspense. But what's not very good is that the game uses a really unrealistic fast time-lapse, that barely gives you enough time to operate during missions, learn guard movements, making the entertaining move-around way to unpleasant sometimes. Other than the slightly hard difficulty, this game is entertaining, exciting, and based on some fresh, well crafted idea. The graphics and the controls does have some minor problems , but its something you can get used to. The game is a nice approach from a new perspective, that you should definitely revisit once in a while. Expand

Great sound, great idea and a great game. Mouse sensetitvity can be annoying, and enemy A.I is generally very good. The graphics meet the average to great standard. All in all a good ww2 game. Expand

I've only made it to the 2nd chapter, but I am already bored. Getting through each level involves little more than learning the proper path to take in the camp, and then learning how to avoid being spotted by guards. That's pretty much it. Graphics are good and the voice acting is decent. Just a little too tedious for my tastes. Expand
