I had a few bad experiences with this game but let me tell you this - as soon as I am done typing this, you guessed it - I'm Going In. I think you should too.
Despite its flaws and little imperfections, it still manages to deliver a fun gaming experience...though we can't help but feel that it's missing something...(multiplayer).
Had it included a mid-mission save and a multiplayer mode, it could have been a solid four star title; add tweaked graphics and improved AI, and it would have been a surefire winner. However, without those features, Project IGI is a good game, but certainly not a great one.
A nice shooter game with a pretty open design of missions. Levels are huge, usually with a military base surrounded by vast plains or mountains - which allows you to seek for softer spots and attack the way you like. The permadeath feature (no save during mission) makes the game very challenging. Fortunately, you can use "satellite data" to see positions of enemies even while you are hiding behind walls. It would be a Hitman-style game if not the endless enemy spawners which turn on if you set of the alarm. This unrealistic feature spoils the stealthy gameplay which you might have wanted. Also, in the final few missions, the difficulty ramps up, as you face "commando" enemies which take zero time to aim at you.
While it can be a good game that you can play tactically, it is a game whose mechanics remain bad and atrophied. I remember the game very well in terms of gameplay and sections, even though the last time I played it was at a really young age. The evil of the shooter mechanics inevitably drags this game down. The plot is generally an "Indeterminate" game. Right now, only can who want to nostalgia can play. But they probably won't last more than 2 episodes and close it. This is the highest rating I can give this game. 5
SummaryPursue and defeat a homicidal ex-Russian Colonel before he turns Europe into a nuclear wasteland in Project IGI. This first-person shooter emphasizes stealth and guile instead of massive firepower.
