  1. Prototype is one of the best games to release this generation and is definitely the best game to drop in 2009 (so far). Outside of the lackluster stealth and disguising mechanic, the brutal combat, huge open-world, varied challenges, and utterly satisfying gameplay makes this a must-have title for any serious gamer's collection. Get ready to put your life on hold!
  2. Although it’s beset by blandish graphics and wickedly uneven difficulty, Prototype delivers a fast-paced, relentlessly amoral and wonderfully brutal sandbox adventure in a detailed city filled with cool things to see and do.
  3. This open-world action game set in Manhattan is proof that even viral outbreaks can be incredibly fun if they're done right.
  4. It is absolutely the best game for wasting away those hot summer days. If you’re a fan of superhero games or just love gratuitous violence, you can’t go wrong with Prototype.
  5. Motivating until the very end thanks to Alex' many skills. However there could be more detail in the graphics, the side missions are repetitive, and the AI could be much better. All in all a fun game, though.
  6. It may not be the most good-looking or exciting action game ever, but few games convey the feel of a dying city which is at the mercy of a single creature.
  7. Prototype isn’t the type of game that shines despite of all it’s flaws. No, Prototype is the kind of game that surprises us that it isn’t in a worse shape just because of all it’s shortcomings. A mediocre game that tried so hard to be cool that it got lost in shallowness.

Perhaps one of the best games I have ever played. Although its in NY and has similar game mechanics as Spiderman, it make Spiderman look like dirt. Graphics are just detailed enough so it looks good but doesn't destroy frame rate on a 8800gt. I get 45+ fps with like 60+ characters on the screen and the entire city of of NY. with choppers flying around and explosions going off. Expand

A very nice game indeed, a 1 man army is just what i like in games the domination, destruction, transformation, wonderful can't get enough ripping innocent people to shreds, best way to take off some stress... if you know what i mean.. Expand

I do not understand the negative reviews. A good game for me makes me think about playing more and again. Prototype does that. It's fun, it's fast and it closes the gap between hack'n'slash, shooter, and generally sandbox games. The story is maybe not new, but still interesting, the combat chaotic at times, but manageable, and yes, sometimes it can be repetitive, but s till, it's fun. It's one of the few games I can even play during my lunch break, because I can just hop on in for a bit, and continue on from there. I also like the combination of checkpoints and manual save games.

Overall I definitely think it's a great game. I would give it a 10, if it weren't for the occasionally sluggish controls, and the somewhat inaccurate targeting system (might be my own fault), but it certainly is a great game. If you enjoy sandbox games, sci-fi (with a mix of post-apocalyptica and conspiracy), then look no further.

It is a brilliant game. Its not very hard because Alex is so damn strong. I'm sure this guy could wipe the floor with the incredible hulk. The only thing wrong with it is that it is a fair bit repetitive.... Expand

Mindless fun. It only kept me interested for about 4 hours. The story is pretty abysmal, especially given the way that the game expects you to sympathize with Alex Mercer. It's a little difficult to watch him have angsty conversations about his humanity right after he just used someone's grandmother as a skateboard. Expand

Could have been alot better. Graphics were not good at all. Special effects are horrible. Gameplay is fun, but gets old after a while. Kind of a spider-man trash game. You will have fun with just running around the city snatching people up, but it will get old. Expand

Extremely horrible port, does not work properly (not even with user-made fixes) at all and never saw a single patch, despite all the "known issues". This game should not be bought AT ALL! Expand
