  1. Prototype is one of the best games to release this generation and is definitely the best game to drop in 2009 (so far). Outside of the lackluster stealth and disguising mechanic, the brutal combat, huge open-world, varied challenges, and utterly satisfying gameplay makes this a must-have title for any serious gamer's collection. Get ready to put your life on hold!
  2. Although it’s beset by blandish graphics and wickedly uneven difficulty, Prototype delivers a fast-paced, relentlessly amoral and wonderfully brutal sandbox adventure in a detailed city filled with cool things to see and do.
  3. This open-world action game set in Manhattan is proof that even viral outbreaks can be incredibly fun if they're done right.
  4. It is absolutely the best game for wasting away those hot summer days. If you’re a fan of superhero games or just love gratuitous violence, you can’t go wrong with Prototype.
  5. Motivating until the very end thanks to Alex' many skills. However there could be more detail in the graphics, the side missions are repetitive, and the AI could be much better. All in all a fun game, though.
  6. It may not be the most good-looking or exciting action game ever, but few games convey the feel of a dying city which is at the mercy of a single creature.
  7. Prototype isn’t the type of game that shines despite of all it’s flaws. No, Prototype is the kind of game that surprises us that it isn’t in a worse shape just because of all it’s shortcomings. A mediocre game that tried so hard to be cool that it got lost in shallowness.

Perhaps one of the best games I have ever played. Although its in NY and has similar game mechanics as Spiderman, it make Spiderman look like dirt. Graphics are just detailed enough so it looks good but doesn't destroy frame rate on a 8800gt. I get 45+ fps with like 60+ characters on the screen and the entire city of of NY. with choppers flying around and explosions going off. Expand

I do not understand the negative reviews. A good game for me makes me think about playing more and again. Prototype does that. It's fun, it's fast and it closes the gap between hack'n'slash, shooter, and generally sandbox games. The story is maybe not new, but still interesting, the combat chaotic at times, but manageable, and yes, sometimes it can be repetitive, but s till, it's fun. It's one of the few games I can even play during my lunch break, because I can just hop on in for a bit, and continue on from there. I also like the combination of checkpoints and manual save games.

Overall I definitely think it's a great game. I would give it a 10, if it weren't for the occasionally sluggish controls, and the somewhat inaccurate targeting system (might be my own fault), but it certainly is a great game. If you enjoy sandbox games, sci-fi (with a mix of post-apocalyptica and conspiracy), then look no further.

This game is good, but by the end you really just want to finish the story. You actually get tired of playing, but want to finish it to see how it ends. At least that's wher I was at. I ended up not caring much about the actual game just finishing. Expand

I don't completely understand why this game is gotten good reviews. The concept is good, but takes a turn for the worse when you actually start doing anything. For one, you are overpowered to such a HUGE extent. Just as you break out of you typical "top secret government facility," you are jumping over trucks, running up the sides of buildings, and turning your arms into huge blades. So there goes any sense of difficulty. From there, it's just a mediocre plot, decent graphics, and repetitive combat. Expand

The graphics, although nice, were somewhat unimpressive. The mechanics are sort of boring in that you have insane superpowers. It can be challenging at times but once you've got some power ups, you can pretty much beast your way through this game in a short time. The story seems interesting at first but then loses you about half way through. Way too repetitive. We've all seen the story about the infected and some person being chosen among humanity to save it, etc. Elements taken from other games and even story ideas seem rehashed from other games/movies. Not bad for a play through or to take out frustrations, much like the Grand Theft Auto series, however GTA succeeded to much greater extents in that regard and others. Expand

Extremely horrible port, does not work properly (not even with user-made fixes) at all and never saw a single patch, despite all the "known issues". This game should not be bought AT ALL! Expand
