An unforgettable JRPG epic that in some aspects has not been surpassed by any other game. Unique characters and situations, a non-linear narrative structure, a deep combat system and an atmosphere of endless adventure will not leave anyone indifferent.
The price tag for this remaster may seem a little high, but considering the amount of effort required to overhaul this flawed classic into an enjoyable play experience amongst other games in the instant-gratification era, SaGa Frontier Remastered is appropriately priced at $24.99 USD on all platforms at the time of release. Any hesitation I had about recommending this game to JRPG fans in general, as well as SaGa fans, was washed away after spending time with it. Do not miss out: give this one a chance, take in the vast and strange world that is SaGa Frontier.
He classic SaGa Frontier experience with all the exploits you love and none of the bugs you don't. From easy glitches to hard to understand value overflows, this remake of SaGa Frontier is both loyal to the original and a breath of fresh air! The game itself, however, is still SaGa Frontier. If you don't enjoy arcane and confusing systems that are obtuse to a high degree, then this game may well be a source of extreme frustration for you. However, if you are willing to give an older game a go, but with updated graphics and a better hand holding checklist for plot points? This is your go-to. The sole gripe with this game is most likely the localization- yes, localization, rather than translation, as some skills and items seem to have been renamed by an executive who threw random phrases at a dartboard and watched what stuck. The grammar and syntax are fine, but their word choice is positively baffling compared to the entire rest of the SaGa series and the original SaGa Frontier.
The result of all of this is a strictly superior version of an underappreciated game, one that strips away many potential stumbling blocks for players while keeping the original experience intact. SaGa Frontier Remastered offers anyone, fan or critic of the original, plenty of reasons to revisit this sprawling, undercelebrated, unorthodox adventure.
SaGa Frontier is one of the most unconventional RPGs you'll ever play and this Remastered version refines it without taking away from the original's charm at all. If you're up for something truly unique then you won't regret giving it a go.
Saga Frontier Remastered is a great remaster for those who already enjoyed the original. The unique take on exploration and non-linear storytelling may throw some people off expecting a traditional RPG but those who stick with it may find the charm that so many found back in when it originally released. Simple but fun combat and a great skills system make it a joy to play and the improvements in the remaster may help bring in new fans while invigorating older fans with the inclusion of originally cut content.
SaGa Frontier Remastered is a good remaster of a classic JRPG. No one will argue that it does its job admirably, and adds in features which help the better aspects of the original game shine. However, there’s only so much it can do to make up for elements of the original game which have aged terribly. Those who aren’t established fans of the original, or who haven’t learned how to navigate older JRPGs, should be prepared for a fair number of headaches if they want to experience this title’s strengths.
One of the worst Square games from the legendary playstation 1 era...
This game is a mess story and gameplay wise..
A game that doesnt deserve a remastered version cause Its mediocre...
It's strange that this game is receiving better reviews than when it was first released in the US on Playstation in the late 90s. This was a middling at best JRPG then -- probably one of the most disappointing JRPGs on the PS back in the 90s. I'm not sure how a graphical overhaul improves on a game with forgettable stories for each character and shallow RPG mechanics given that each story is relatively short.
