This game kicks ass, some SERIOUS ASS!!...A perfect game for the gamer who really don’t care too much about solving a bunch of puzzles and would rather mow down literally hundreds of enemies per level.
One of the best oldschool shooters, and it's for everyone: be it an utter casual (Tourist difficulty level), or a true enthusiast (Mental difficulty level that unlocks after Serious). Plus, it's engine is great: virtually no technical issues and some advanced stuff it can handle, like gravity (in a FEB 2002 game?). I really can't count how many times I've started playing this game and how many times I've actually managed to complete it, but I was never bored. Even tried to create my own levels as the game comes with an SDK. If you want to complete the game on hardest difficulty with your off-hand instead of main hand (left is my off-hand), then you know the game is great. And I need to do that six times in total, because that's the number of difficulty levels in the game and I have had to start from scratch (no prior experience in my off-hand), so this game truly is for utter casuals. By the way, I've already completed the game on Mental "normally," so I know what I'm talking about.
Taking the best elements of first-person shooters that preceded it, what we have here is a magnificent homage to the genre rather than an attempt to introduce significant novelty or redefine its boundaries...Clearly superior to its predecessor.
Given that all you're doing is shooting everything around you, it's almost essential to give the player a continual sense of progress and achievement by opening up new locales frequently. Otherwise the whole exercise collapses under its own redundancy.
The game is sorta repetitive and frustrating to play, I really don't think it stands up to 2020 standards, no reason to purchase it or play it outside of nostalgia nowadays.
If you've ever played the first encounter then you've already played the second one. Same weapons, same enemies, and a lot more painful to play through.
