The game brings together different elements of gameplay which were introduced in the first game but expanded it over without the worry and stress of going back and forth in a open world. The game includes a marvelous soundtrack despite its horrid voice acting, improved visuals and dynamic lighting/shading, along with a ton of replay value in its levels and addicting Chao garden mini game. Also dont forget about the multiplayer and boss battle modes which are also available. Simply one of the best games in the history of video games. Expand

We finally have it up on the Steam. For what I've seen, I must say that it didn't get to be the same error as the port of the first Adventure was earlier. This note is quite based on the comparation with experience we've seen with the First Adventure on the PSN/XBLA and Sonic Heroes, that came after the original Adventure 2. Can't say this game is way better or fixed than it was before, but it's a relief to see that this one has not been nerfed in terms of quality like the first Adventure. So, we have HD graphics, trophies (yes, finally a good reason to A-Rank all stages and missions)... But this is all to be there. We got no big news beside the chance to mix the best of the original Dreamcast version with the best of the Gamecube version via DLC. Nonetheless, it did not made the same mistake of becoming the bugmass the first Adventure had become on the PSN/XBLA version. Expand

I loved this game when I played it on the Gamecube, so when it came to Steam finally, I was pretty ecstatic. Upon playing it, I realized thatI loved this game when I played it on the Gamecube, so when it came to Steam finally, I was pretty ecstatic. Upon playing it, I realized that this was a pretty good port, except one problem. I found that this game, at least at the time I played it, only natively supported the 360 pad. This is a problem for me, since I have no 360 pad to speak of. So I had to rough it out with a keyboard and/or my key mapped 3rd party pad, both of which felt very clumsy.

To those whom have never played this game, you play as Sonic/Shadow stages, where its your standard Sonic affair of rushing through the level and killing as many enemies in combos to get a higher rank. The Tails/Eggman stages involve you on a small scale mech again killing things in combos to rack up points. The Knuckles/Rouge stages involve you finding 3 shards of the Master Emerald most of the time, in a treasure hunter sort of stage where you can ask for hints. Finding them without hints and quickly racks up the points there. The Sonic/Shadow stages are the most fun in my opinion.

Aside from the poor controller pad support, this is a very good port, the game itself is a 9/10 borderlining a 10, but the aforementioned poor controller support puts this port at a 7. If you have a Gamecube/Wii/Dreamcast lying around, I'd suggest finding those versions of the game.

I'm actually giving this game a 6.5 out of 10, but Metacritic does not allow decimals. So, my opinion on this game? Well I was a littleI'm actually giving this game a 6.5 out of 10, but Metacritic does not allow decimals. So, my opinion on this game? Well I was a little disappointed really. There a good stages (the Sonic and Shadow stages) the average stages (Tails and Eggman) and the bad stages (Knuckles and Rouge). So looking at the game that way and seeing that the majority of it is either bad or average, I can't rate it that highly. That said, it can feel sometimes rewarding when playing the Sonic or Shadow stages, it's almost like the bad levels are just there to make the good levels feel amazing! Anyway, it's worth a look at, it's not a complete failure, it's just average. Expand

I'd heard that it was an awesome game, and I had a vague memories of playing this as a child. I remembered that it was awesome. So I bought it. The first stage, City Escape, kicks intense amounts of ass. It's so awesome.

Then I began to play the rest of the game, and I remembered.

This game sucks. Really, really bad.

How? Oh Christ, where do I begin?

The story is the stupidest and poorest excuse for a story I have ever seen. The characters aren't any better, and are poorly acted as well. The worst characters are the two newcomers, Shadow the Hedgehog and Rouge the Bat.

The gameplay as Sonic and Shadow is fine, although there are some button mapping issues (could they not have mapped the Spin Dash and the Somersault to different buttons?). The other characters? Forget it. The Treasure Hunting stages rely solely on luck in order to get a good time and involve WAY too much climbing. The Mech Stages are...just the worst. If they're not making your ears bleed from the constant sound of BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP from the mech's targeting system, they'll be making you scream because of terrible level design (more on that later). Oh, and there are completely pointless kart-racing segments for good measure.

Remeber how I said bad level design? It plauges this game. In fact, this game wouldn't be that bad if the levels were better designed. And some level are great. City Escape, Final Rush and Pumpkin Hill are all awesome. But aside from these (and a few others) ALL of the stages are badly designed. Such as Pyramid Cave, which forces you, in what should be a fast-paced Sonic level, to FIND KEYS AND PLACE THEM IN LOCKS!

If there are two good things about this game, they are the Chao Garden and the soundtrack. But what's even worse than anything else about this game is what it did to the franchise, and how rabidly the fanboys defend it.

This is the game that ruined a once-great franchise forever. It introduced the following terrible things in Sonic games:
    -Overblown stories
    -Constantly introducing new characters
    -Dull, flat dialogue
    -Terrible sound engineering
    -Terrible voice acting
    -Too many cinematics
-Having every new game be an epic
    -Lack of actual QA

Yet despite all this, the rabid, nostalgia blinded fanbase defends this sad excuse for game. Anytime something that would normally be unacceptable in any other Sonic game (such as the Werehog in Sonic Unleashed) comes up, instead of whinging and crying about it, the fans defend it as being great and yell obscenities at you.

This game was the worst thing that ever happened to Sonic. If you have found memories of this game, leave it that way. Don't waste $10 on piece of garbage.
