  1. The effects look like they came right out of the series and the voiceovers, as expected are top-notch. Some of the character's jokes really catch you off guard and if you're as geeky as the rest of us, you'll be foaming at the mouth before you know it.
  2. So if you like to shoot fancy lasers, beam, and pulse weapons, explore strange planets, bounce around the outer hull of the Enterprise, wade through murky swamps, jump across lakes of bubbling lava, or sneak through the gutted remains of a drifting Starship then look no further.

  14. With an immense amount of work into the storyline as well as the detail added to the game engine, EF 2 is a definite must have for any Trek fan, as well as other gamers alike.
  15. The imaginative use of the tricorder for exploration and the wonderful assortment of enemy creatures are high points for me, and the multiplayer portion is impeccable.

    It doesn't quite match the brilliance or originality of the first game, and it is looking a bit dated thanks to the Quake3 tech, but the core game is still loads of fun and well worth playing whether you're a casual gamer or a hardcore Star Trek fan.
  17. Elite Force ranked solidly OK as far as I was concerned, and, with very few changes to it, Elite Force 2 is OK as well. I would have liked to see some improvements for a game that was this close to something special.
  18. Although Star Trek fans may have liked a stronger use of the license and FPS fans would have preferred a more intelligent AI, as long as you don’t come in with lofty expectations you should at least get out of it what you put in.
  19. Even though some weird level design decision and venerable AI code may present a fairly serious drawback, the aforementioned qualities of EF2 outweigh the bads. Shooter fans that appreciate the Star Trek universe should go out and buy this game.
  20. The game packs enough pure action to make it appealing to those who like first-person shooters in general, and it's got plenty of Star Trek science fiction in it for those more interested in the source material.
  21. It only falls short of the peak of excellence due to the somewhat unoriginal enemy alien design.

    I have to say I was a little disappointed... I love the first one with a passion but there is something about this second one that seems aI have to say I was a little disappointed... I love the first one with a passion but there is something about this second one that seems a little off. While the graphics are a MAJOR improvement and nice to finally be able to use a tricorder, the cut scenes are unskippable (and there is minute long cut scene every time you start up the game) and you can't permanently set any controls whatsoever. I have a bunch of minor complaints but in the end if you liked the first one you will like this one. Full Review »

    I hate to say that this game made shooting stuff... boring. It starts off great... until you learn the game mechanics which equate to "ShootI hate to say that this game made shooting stuff... boring. It starts off great... until you learn the game mechanics which equate to "Shoot the Node.", of course you could fight, but the borg "Adapt to your weapons" so... it's not that smart. I'll give the first level a thumbs up, but after that... it gets worse.

    The game shows promise as a shocker, but then quickly gets to "how many enemys can we spawn before you die" (More than that I'm afraid :P)... unfortunatly it quickly becomes obvious that the game is by no means a squad based shooter, infact, the game rarely keeps you and the squad together and they quickly become unimportant characters as the game progresses (they don't even DO anything later on).
    So it comes down to the shooting and a minorly interesting story... that quickly gets absurd... then becomes a wtf... and shooting wise, there's not much variety for most of the game.
    The game uses "Balanced Weapons", which basically means that sticking with your initial weapons is best, because the ammo the "heavy hitters" use is far too much and it's typically far easier to use the phaser for 1 or 2 kills (and save very precious ammo). Sigh, when it comes down to it, the biggest tire was the amount of enemies that needed to be killed with the little ammo you had. And let alone that the enemies you're killing are little "biomorphishthings", most of which are melee attackers in an FPS game (problem?), and most of the time they just keep spawning cause when AI is crap they have to compensate (forinstance, by making them rather fast and hard to hit [well, in great quantity]) sigh... get it for the far more interesting interludes, then sell it.
