Jan 24, 2014For younger kids, the minigames and friendly characters form the show/movie are a nice experience. Since this game is free to try, definitely try it. I loved this game so much I begged and begged for a lifetime membership. The new expansions to "Umbara" and other planets expands the game to be more like a TPS. Sadly, the graphics are pretty much like Star Wars the Old Republic (2003 i'm pretty sure). The online community is not very nice, and I have encountered a player "slave market" But, if all your kid, or you really want to do is play and not socialize, than go ahead and play!… Expand
Jun 22, 2014Star Wars The Clone Wars Adventures. Before I begin, let me just start by saying that I know this game is done. Sony Online Entertainment announced the game has been shut down for good, most likely due to the cancellation of the show it was based on. It was shut down on March 31st, 2014. This review is meant as more of a history lesson, telling you how good or bad the game really was, and if you should play it should someone make an emulated version of it. I played this game quite a bit back when this show first came out, and I will tell you exactly how it was. So, was this game an amazing MMO that should have been Star Wars the Old Republic, or is the Old Republic actually a better MMO then you would like to think? Let's find out. For starters, the gameplay of this game sucked. It was good for children, but not for people like me who were just turning into teenagers at the time. Why did it suck you may ask? Well, let's just say that the game took no real risks. It instead created mini games that delivered absolutely nothing that we have not seen before. You start out in the Jedi Temple, which acted as your online hub. From here, you could visit any mini game you wanted. There is only one other MMO I can think of that does an online hub like this: basically every single MMO out there has one! Admittedly, there isn't much more they could have done to make it original, but come on! As for the mini games, oh my gosh were they terrible! For starters there was a dueling mini game. At least that's what they called it. I like to call it: Dance Dance Revolution: Jedi Duel Edition. No, you were not matching the rhythms to the music, but you were matching the button prompts to whatever chain of buttons appeared on screen. In the end, it still felt like a rhythm game, or a quick time event (don't even get me started on those). It ultimately got to the point where it didn't even feel like you were dueling someone else, but instead you were playing a bad rhythm game or quick time event. There's also a starfighter pilot mini game, but all I can say about that game is this: you would be better off playing Star Fox 64 for Nintendo 64. That's basically what this mode was, just a crappy version of Star Fox 64. I thought it was the best of all the mini games, but that still doesn't excuse that the game was little more than a rip-off of a much better game. There was also a mode that I forget the name of, but it was supposed to simulate real battles in the Clone Wars. However, this game was also nothing special. It was literally the same as every other tower defense game that you could already find on just about any random games website. However, the worst part of all about this gameplay is that you could play for free, but only for the first couple of levels of the mini games. You had to pay a lot of money to become a Jedi member just to play the rest of the levels. This is no fun at all, and is just an example of a free-to-play game that should have been pay-to-play. Not that you would want to anyway. If you haven't noticed all of the mini games are little more than complete rip-offs of games that are much much better. Overall, the gameplay of this game is just terrible. As for the graphics, believe it or not, they are quite the opposite. The graphics of this game were much better than the gameplay. They were really close to the animation of the show this game was based on, but not quite. Still though, it's hard to argue that the characters and settings looked nothing like how they did on the show, because they actually look very close. For the graphics alone, this game might have been worth giving a try. As for the overall presentation, I'd say it was mostly average. Much like the gameplay of this game, the presentation did not try anything new. It instead delivered exactly what we have come to expect from the MMO genre. The menus are all what you would expect, and so was the overall quality of the game. In the end, the presentation was not bad, but it wasn't good either. It instead brought us what we have come to expect from the genre, without trying anything new. So that's my review of Star Wars the Clone Wars Adventures. The game may be down now, but I wouldn't be disappointed. There was literally nothing this game did that no other MMO, or even other video game couldn't do already. The kids would probably have been all over this game, but as for teenagers like me who have played thousands of other video games, this game offered absolutely nothing we haven't played before, and was not even worth trying in this respect.
Overall: 5/10… Expand
Nov 30, 2012Ah Star Wars the Clone Wars! This is one of my favorite TV shows of all time. It is now on to its fifth season, and I now have pretty high doubts that any bad video games will ever be released to tie in with it. Well what do you think?!? The Clone Wars TV series may be awesome, but almost every single video game that has ever been released to tie in with it has sucked (the one exception is Lego Star Wars III the Clone Wars). This online game is no exception to the bad games that have been released for this series. The gameplay is just horrid. It's all a bunch of minigames that are nothing more than knock-offs of other games that are so much better. You start off in an online hub with a bunch of other players, just like many other MMOs. Admittedly the online hub is actually done pretty well. It's not laggy in the slightest, and it has no real bugs. So the online hub is not the problem. What is the problem is the minigames. There is a dueling minigame which doesn't really make you feel like you're dueling at all. It instead makes you feel like you're playing a bunch of quicktime events. In other words, you feel like you're watching an awesome cutscene, and all of a sudden you have to press buttons which ruins everything. Not only are you playing several quicktime events, but it ultimately doesn't feel like you're actually dueling somebody else. There is also a flying minigame, but that is basically the same thing as playing Star Fox 64 on your Nintendo 64. However, this minigame is actually the best out of all the minigames. It at least does make you feel like you're piloting a Jedi Starfighter, but that doesn't excuse the fact that it is a complete knock-off of one of the best video games on the N64. The last minigame is the minigame that is supposed to simulate battles in the Clone Wars (I forget what it is really called). However, it's really just the same thing as the average tower defense game you could already find on the internet (Bloon Tower Defense to name an example). Okay, so there are a few good things about this game. For one thing the graphics are excellent. They look very much like the show that it is based on. All of the characters look exactly how they should, along with the environments. The game certainly is a site to behold. The sound is good too. It mimics all the Star Wars noises very well, and all of the characters sound exactly as they should. However, there are many more things wrong with this game that I haven't gone over yet. If you are looking for a Star Wars game that has a great story, you will not find it here. To tell you the truth, the game has absolutely no story whatsoever! This can be good, if you are a kid! However, the absolute worst thing about this game is how much content is locked for people who just want to play this game for free. Seriously, more than half of this game's content is locked to people who aren't Jedi members. This is a huge let down. Not only that, but in case you're thinking that you can just unlock it by playing the game (as an alternative to having to buy the content) like in Team Fortress 2, you cannot do that. No, I'm not just talking about hats and weapons here, I'm talking about the best levels from all of the minigames. If you play this game for free, you will only be able to play through the first two or three levels of the minigames, which completely sucks. Seriously, do I have to say anything else bad about this game as a whole? I don't think so. This is another one of Lucasarts cruddy attempts to revitalize their Star Wars video game franchise, which has been in trouble since 2007. You can thank Star Wars the Force Unleashed for that. If you want to play a good Star Wars game, just turn on your Xbox, Playstation, or PC and insert the disk for Star Wars Battlefront II. Just don't even bother with this online game, and hope that Lucasarts releases Battlefront III in the near future.… Expand
