Graphics are creative and funny, Controls are ultra-smooth and the game-play is FUN. FUN being the important word here. The game may look simple at first glance, but is a very complex shooter. Pretty much still a perfect game after all these years.

I spent many years playing the original TF on Quakeworld, however was never keen on TFC. TF2 however impresses me, yes it doesn't have the skill level of the original TF but the removal of grenades has definitely benefitted the gameplay. It put a huge smile on my face the first time I played, which is still there. Superb!

Even after all these years, there's still no multiplayer game that can top it. Excellent class balance, fair customization, great maps, they're all here, and not going anywhere anytime soon.

Team Fortress 2 is by far one of the best shooters ever made. The classes are balanced, there's an immense choice of weapons for you to use or acquire, strategy is required and most importantly: TEAMWORK IS REQUIRED AT ALL TIMES! All 9 classes help each other in many ways, and a combination of classes and teamwork is crucial to win the game. Many maps to choose from, and you can even make your own. New content is released regularly and for free... and you can even make you own too! Also, AWESOME HATS AND AWESOME STUFF TO CUSTOMIZE YOUR CHARACTER. This is the real deal. Expand

No matter what FPS game you play, you can thank Team Fortress for making it possible. The original Team Fortress was a free mod for Quake 1 that came out in 1996, and it forever changed FPS games. TF was the first game that really focused on class based team play. So many games follow that model now. Team Fortress 2 is not quite the same game as its 1996 incarnation. The game no longer has grenades, it has a slower pace, and at a competitive level, it actually requires teamwork to win. Team Fortress 2 has been out for over 3 years now and it is only growing in popularity. The competitive community is getting bigger, and it shows no signs of slowing down. If you are looking for a fun FPS with lasting appeal, Team Fortress 2 is for you. Expand

This isn't even a video-game anymore. It's a laser-tag/hat simulator which requires only that you run around and hold down the primary fire button. Everything screwed up when Valve started updating it. Adding all those achievements and weapons. Sure, it gives you a goal to reach, but you can't reach that goal if you keep getting eviscerated into nothingness by laser cannon wielding soldiers. This game was supposed to take place in the 1970's, what in the hell are lasers doing there? Moving on, making TF2 "Free-To-Play" was the SECOND worst mistake Valve has ever made. The first being the first update. Why did making it F2P screw up the entire game? What making it F2P did, was bring in a WHOLE SWARM of noobs from ages 5-12. The game just isn't fun anymore. The goal used to be "Capture the Intelligence!" or "Capture all Control Points!". Now, it's "Collect as many useless hats and overpowered weapons as you can! Then beg the **** out of people for the ones you want!". The game needs to be optimized, BIG TIME. Not even a $200 video card can run this, well, it can, but just barley. Not barley enough to see where you're going most of the time. The general artstyle of the game was ruined, by said lasers. I remember when I used to walk down a hall, and hear scatterguns, flamethrowers, and miniguns. Now, I hear lasers charging up, a demoknight rushing towards me with his Eyelander and Charge N' Targe, and a scout running up behind me with his "Force-A-Nature". In a nutshell, This game was good, once... Once... but not anymore. Expand

I don't understand the big buzz around this game. It's a little fun. This game is just too "simple", I mean, just few maps, games, most of characters are dull (scout, medic, soldier, heavy, bomberman)... I've played few hours with joy, now it's boring. Meh, I think that I shall install UT2k4 once again. Or go RO! But it's different kind of online fps.

Three words everybody: BEST SHOOTER EVER! I dont care if Halo: Reach has an epic campaign (actually, I do), this game has a freakin' SANDVICH!!! The class you play as isn't just your favorite character; its a personality! If I ever (God forbid) go on a dating site, my profile will say, "Likes cats and playing as the Engineer and Scout,". This game has great graphics, catchy tunes, and over 60 different weapons (not including promotion items)! It's only 20 bucks! Go buy a copy! Awesome game overall. It makes good use of the 9 classes and it makes every one of them unique in both playstyle and gameplay. Nothing is unnecessary or excessive, besides some items and the gaming is extremely fast paced. It gets you worked up like no other and when played competitively, it is the most satisfying game in the world. This game is valve's best creation by far. It is humorous, but at the same time, intense. Expand

I got this game with the orange box when it first came out. when i first started playing this game i thought it was brilliant, the sort of game i was looking for... it was geniunely fun and worked really well... that is of course when valve decieded to be tossers and patch the crap out of the game... the new maps were okay, though the only one i actually like is badwater. but it was the class updates that infuriated me with the new weapons and alike ruining the balance of the game... well the whole game infact. i mean if it aint broke why fix it? it really killed it for me, and after a year of being annoyed i finally re-installed the game to find more updates and some truely awful maps... hoodoo is the worst that i can remember. so i had to go back to my favorites... (2fort, dustbowl, hydro and well) and try and enjoy the game... yes the game is still fun, but just doesn't give me the evil smile on my face after i get humiliating kills that it used to. still a good game, but that's it. I'm missing something. I must be. Because all these people that are spewing love letters to Valve over this game are making me scratch my head. I've played quite a few hours of this game, trying all the classes, different servers, etc. I'm still waiting for the 'great' thing in this. It is flat out boring. Along with that is the inevitable 'destroy the noob' factor that plagues the human race; so that it is nearly impossible to ever learn this game because you're being mocked by every player you ever meet. I didn't buy this game when it came out, I didn't give it a try until almost 2 years later, and I don't know why I ever bought it. Oh, and additionally, there is a serious lack of any kind of documentation that would assist someone learning this game. I found that fact alone horrifyingly blatant. The game has some good points: the humor is good; the artistic direction is pretty good, though a bit simplistic; and it has a lot of maps. For me, it's just run of the mill stuff, nothing really special about it. (no, I didn't buy the orange box, and I don't own an Xbox. And I have a better PC than most) Expand

I love this game,i would give it 9.5 but 10 rounds closer and all that math,anyways.... The Good Stuff 1.Its fun 2.Many mods and custom maps so i have a lot more to do 3.9 Different classes, each with their own advantages For example: Heavy:Slow but shoots lots of lead to your face Scout:lil low on HP but fast and jumps high with a shotgun and so on 4.Usually Quick DL's The OK stuff 1.The Graffics are out of date, but its supposed to be like that for the fun of it 2.Heavy is OVERHEALTHED! The Bad 1.The spys pistol is a lil weak (i know alot of you think its TOO strong but it should be 1-hit-kill Overall:GREAT game that always kickz azzzz the orange box includes this great game,so that might be something to,and if you have steam the valve complete pack is a nice deal with all the good games like this,l4d,l4d2,CS and all that.It gets updated alot so its also a very very good game in valve's opinion, cuz its old. one of those games that if it were free 2 play, would be ok. But not worth the price. Before they added all the extra weapons and the store, the game was better, but now your playing with people that are leveled way higher than you, hence better weapons and gizmos. most maps are small and repetitive, and after you log 100 hours into it, expect Steam to ban your account :)

I don't mean to insult any Team Fortress 2 fans. I love that game. The reason i gave it a 2 though, is because it is now free-to-play. This I find to be an outrage. Until I get a refund my score will remain this way for eternity. I don't hate the game. I just hate that **** money was spent towards a game that eventually became free to play. What is $20 to much for some of you to bear? Well how about the people who did spend $20 to buy it? Valve is practically giving you money out of our hard-earned coin. So valve is stealing our money without the owners consent. Unbelievable. 2, you **** robbers. Expand

Game is fun. For first few hours. Later it's clear, it's not even a game. Really, I can't imagine that someone plays this "seriously". It's repetitive like hell, classes are boring minutes after you get to know them. All this game is good for, is running around and voice spamming - otherwise it would be a total waste of time. Game modes, maps - nothing special, bored after few times I played each. Ah, add item shop and ridiculous, totally "not funny" bonus items from other games. "Buy a game and receive free hat!". Really? I'm not that type of person to be entertained by trash, that isn't even trying to hide that it's bad and stinky. Expand

I expected this to be a slight modification of Half Life 2 Deathmatch, but it truly is an entirely new game, full of amusing new graphics and a truly team based combat engine capable of running on pretty much any system. It's probably worth the $45 price-tag for the orange box single-handedly, not to say the other games won't be just as good!! Epic Game!!

As an addict of Team Fortress Classic, I was excited and worried for Team Fortress 2. At first glance from playing the beta, I found myself in a confusing situation, not knowing what I should think or feel. Like a confused Emo lost in the world, I waded through my emotions until finally coming to a conclusion. I loved the similarities between Team Fortress Classic and TF2... but the differences made me uneasy. After playing the beta for two hours, I vowed that I would never like it quite as much as TFC. However, it's since grown on me and I've decided to give it the magnificent honor of receiving a perfect 10 out of 10. From the outset Team Fortress 2 may seem like a pretty straightforward game with little to offer. There's 9 player classes which all offer a unique style of gameplay, but that's not what makes this game unique. Strategy plays a huge role in this game. It's called TEAM Fortress for a reason-- if your team works together, you will most assuredly succeed. I can proudly say that I am one of the die-hard TF fans (I was playing TFC up until the TF2 beta was released to the public) and Valve has not missed a beat. Expand

A great online game, with a great amount of flaws. The removal of grenades may be one thing, but the crippling of the Sniper, the skimmed classes and several annoying new features plague this sequel. For instance, the Critical Shot System. Very bad idea in a competitive online game. When you're fighting, the battle should depend on your skill. Not your chance of getting a Critical Shot. Considering Valve removed a lot of fun from this game in the name of fairness, it's odd that they would include something as unbalanced as that. Anyone whose been running along at full health and been killed instantly by a Sniper with a machete who got a Crit Shot will know what i'm talking about. Also, the Kill Assist System, while a good idea, is very inconsistent. I've seen people get a Kill Assist ten seconds after they them, then people not getting a Kill Assist after they hurt someone and someone else kills him. Lastly, the aforementioned Sniper. This is yet another game where Valve have destroyed the Sniper simply because people complain about "fairness". A Sniper is suppose to be deadly, one-shot-kill man. Thats what the Sniper is about. Now, the only way you'll get a one-shot-kill is if you wait ten seconds for your sniper rifle to charge (yes, charge) and then get a direct headshot. This is made even more difficult due to the fact the Sniper rifle is incredibly inaccurate, the Sniper's health is incredibly low, and the bullet travel time is extraordinarily high. A good game, but contains quite a few dissapointments considering Valve has been producing this for nearly a decade. Expand

TF2 has always been one of my favorite games. It has memorable characters, diverse playstyles, unique maps, and best of all: It has a wonderful and mostly kind community. I don't go a day without hearing one of the character's voices saying something in my head to fit my situation. Not to mention completely and totally reliable as VALVe is with all of their games. It's made well, it has constant content updates and patches, the blog is updated rather actively, etc. And for the low price of $20? This game is Three years old and the community is still huge. This game has quality written all over it. It's hard to find a major flaw that isn't soon fixed. Expand

How anyone can say this game is balanced is beyond me. There is NO BALANCE AT ALL. The spy is the most ridiculously OP class ever created. You have guys running around who spent tons of cash to make themselves nearly invincible while being invisible. They make nearly half the classes useless because of their skill set. I cannot even imagine why you would build anything since it takes way to long to create things and it takes a spy a few seconds to destroy them ALL in a couple clicks. It's easy to see why the game went Free to Play since it has no balance and they realise the only way to make money from it is to make fools pay to make themselves godly. There's better balance in a game of Combat off an atari 2600. The only people who will say there is abalnce are those paid to say that and those that paid to make themselves godly in game. Expand

Why? Why don't I like this game? I was very excited about the game's unique look, interesting characters, brilliant voice acting and hilarious promotional videos. To this day, I find it one of the most beautiful games ever made. But that's where my enthusiasm stops, because as soon as I join a match, I lose all of it. The game just plays so... rigid. Maybe it's just me being bad at the game, but none of the classes really feel like they matter. I bought the game fairly late, and I hear people saying that "it used to be better, now it's more of a hat trading game than an actual shooter". Then suddenly, Valve decided to milk the cow even more by making TF2 a free-to-play game, run by a micro transaction system. This just felt like a stab in the back of the people who bought the game, because suddenly having bought the game beforehand didn't matter, you still had to pay. I know the items you can buy are not really giving you much of an advantage, but I still find it a cheap trick. I respect Valve and I really enjoy most of their games, but I hope they don't make a habit out of this. Expand

"Team Fortress 2" is one of the most historically epic games Valve has ever made. The game only consists of multiplayer, but multiplayer at it's finest. The 9 classes are very balanced as well as the controls too. Gameplay is smooth and is equipped with sexy graphics. There are a variety of maps and game modes as well as constant updates from our trusty Valve. The only downside? There is no singleplayer or campaign. At the end of the day, after you play this game for an hour, it just comes off as boring and uninspired. Cartoony graphics, underpowered weapons and sluggish movement ruin what otherwise might be a nice concept. In spite of being a class based team game it reeks of shallowness and pandering to the masses. As a sequel, its a great disappointment. Team Fortress Classic (TFC) had a rich array of game types and maps, mostly thanks to the community that kept it alive. Each class in TFC had a multitude of abilities and a real depth of skill to be acquired. TF2 could have build upon that depth, but chose instead to make the game more shallow. There are fewer game types, less class-specific skills to learn, fewer weapons, and fewer inter-class interactions. Overall, the game is a regression, rather than a progression, of team fortress. That said, it does have a great artistic appeal and certainly makes the classes unique. That appears to have been their main goal, and they achieved that. Its just unfortunate that valve didn't build upon the classic multiplayer that they had rather than tear it down to something that equates to a cosmetic overhaul to the day of defeat. Expand

Good game, not a Great game. It could be a Great game but its depth that brings it down. Some classes don't even require any amount of skill and you can't get better at those classes either. For example with a medic all you do is hold down the fire button and follow the person around, they could have easily made a skill-based system to healing that would have been 10x more fun to do on top of that, same goes for engis, you build a turret and a dispenser right next to it sit between both of them and whack away, it doesnt even take skill to remove a sapper. Pyros, i used to play them, people who play them now deny this. but theres almost no skill involved its a straight stream of fire I've never met a pyro much better than the next cause theres hardly any skill, they could have a made some sort of oil slick skill or overkill action. Heavies require a small amount of skill but are still hold down trigger and hope for best and hope a medic is there. All classes that have special functions require skill, like scouts actually take skill to aim and dodge with, especially dodge. Spies obviously take a good amount of strategy and skill. Snipers require aim most of all, and some melee skill. I like the classes that I can better myself at, the other ones disappoint me. Expand

I bought this game on a whim a while back. All I can say is that this is quite possibly the most fun I've had in a game in a long time. Quite simply the longevity of the game and the willingness of valve to continue to support this game speaks volumes. Constant class updates, game updates and a vibrant community that run very excellent servers that are quite full day and night. I recommend the No Heroes servers. The gentleman that runs the joint doesn't put up with any guff and his servers are full 90% of the day. There is also quite a large female gamer population that plays there as well. This game is the best multiplayer game I have EVER played. The game is superbly balanced, lacking the traditional customization most FPSs like MW2 have. Instead the game has 9 Classes, all fo which gave several advantages, disadvantages, and styles of play. The Scout for example, is the fastest class, and can double jump, making hard to hit. But with that he gets a relatively weak weapon with bad accuracy (short double barreled shotgun) and very low health. I would recommend this game to anyone AND everyone. This game, now about 3 years old is also still getting patches and updates. HOW MANY GAMES ARE LIKE THAT?! An amazing game with a great art style and amazing textures, it has a unique look. This is the best multiplayer game I play tied with Counter Strike Source. Expand

One of the greatest parts of this game is the updates. Released back in October 2007, Team Fortress 2 is still a fun multiplayer first person shooter. More content is being added every month or so and the community is growing larger all the time.

This is truly one of the greatest multiplayer FPS games i've ever played. I am playing it for a year and it's still entertaining, mostly because of updates, that, i think, come more frequently than MMO updates. With 9 classes to choose from, everyone will find their favourite gameplay style. And, of course, HATS. They make the game even more awesome... This is the best mix of RPG and FPS. Weapons, hats, trading, crafting and shooting. 'Couse who needs experience points. Expand

This is a great game. It has by far the most hours logged on my computer out of any game I own. Every class you play you get an entirely different experience and the best part is that every class actually feels necessary. Then I personally enjoy the humor in this game and the fact that there are as many frequent updates as there are is just top notch. Its is bar none the best multiplayer experience out there even 3 years after its original release. Expand

Mindless good fun. A very competent shooter from Valve. The mayhem often going on screen makes it easy to not take this game very seriously. This game is good to just take of load off with. Maybe due to the hardcore "Team" aspect of the game which makes going solo fairly worthless, I find other games to turn to first when I want a real serious competitive fps experience such as Halo and COD, still you can not go through this game and not see the artistry around it. A well made game, but can seem a little under the bar with the fierce competition in the genre. A great aspect Team Fortress 2 has going for itself is that it's frequently updated with new weapons, stages, etc. , so finding something new is often the case. Expand

Team Fortress 2 is possibly the best TDM FPS of the century for me. The diverse mix of 9 classes, several different game mode types, many different maps, outstanding visual quality, constant free-content adding updates and many other things all add up this make this game just purely astounding. On top of that, since this game is build on the source engine, one of the most (if not the most) modded game engines in the industry, users can add their own maps, weapons and customizations at will. The game is very new player friendly, and at the same time very competitive. There are several videos on YouTube of dudes girlfriends/mothers/grandmothers who have never played first person shooters before and manage to pick up and play, get a few kills and have fun. What with there being 9 seperate classes, all with different types of weapons and content being added on that allows you to customize the classes even further, the possibilities are endless. I would give the game a 9.9 as I don't believe any game deserves a 10, but if there was one bad thing I would have to say about this game, it's that some of the new weapons that are added into the game can sometimes be quite unbalanced, but this is usually fixed after a short while. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is not a sequel to Team Fortress Classic but rather than a spinoff of the game itself. It would have been called Team Fortress: Incredibles Edition or Team Fortress: Pixar Edition. The gameplay is deeply derivative to the Unreal Tournament and Quake series. Valve did improve the AI but the SP AI difficulty is insane when playing on "easy" difficulty and most maps are not playable with AI bots. Also the game is incomplete since its retail elease in 2006 until its freeware status this year with lots of DLC, maps and improved content.. Downloading free DLC and extra patches for this game are painful as well as long-loading times loading the game. But hey, this game is now worth it when it's free. As for compromised materials since 2000 for Team Fortress 2, most of them went to HL: Counterstrike which became the biggest epic fail mistake of the century by Valve Software ...... period. Expand

I played TF2 back in 2008 and it was really fun to play. But re-installing it after years in 2011 really wasn't worth the time. While the gameplay is the same, get the enemy briefcase, capture all enemy points etc. the game itself turned from a fun FPS into a pointless hat-collector. But I won't criticise the game for it's 5-12 year old community collecting as many hats as they can, for me it's the quality that makes the game bad compared to how it was back in 2008. Everywhere you look you see unfinished and re-re-used animations and taunts, as well as unbalanced weapons like the "Equalizer" or the "Solemn Vow" that make their standard counterparts just useless. It's not the quality I expected from Valve Software. It seems TF2 is now Valve's money making machine. People buy the items that the folks at Valve haven't even made themselves (they just ask the community to make them) and add them without even giving them proper animations, stats what so ever. Seems like Valve spent the majority of their time on giving the menu class images hats. As for the graphics you can already see that the game is out there for a long time. However, the cartoon style is still something you don't see in any other game and they're still fun to look at, even tho' the so called "Very High" settings looks like Crysis on "Medium". A 3/10 from me. Expand

The fun and action-packed game has me enterained for years even if I have nearlyl 600 games on my steam account, I still come to TF2 to play. I am fast approaching 1000 hours played clocked on this game. Subtitles are lacking but someone has created a mod that implements closed captions into the game which increased it's fun factor. What to say about this except "oh thank god". Valve has owned the IP for Team Fortress now for a long time, my first experience with Team Fortress was in Quake around TF2.4 or so the game back then was innovative and good, the Valve port of Team Fortress for Half Life was good too, but never have I seen a team play mod come into its own like this. The theme and personality of this game is just breath taking. Valve could have very easily released a Team Fortress for HL2 just a few weeks after its original release, but no, they took their time with it and instead of rehashing a tired old concept they totally reinvented it, out of the projects released with the Orange box I'd have to say that while Episode 2 is nice (though short) and Portal is just mind blowing in concept, TF2 really outshines them both for innovation and outstanding design improvements. I've been waiting for TF2 for awhile now and watched it go through several ilterations and even appear to be vaporware, all I can say is bravo, the wait has been worth it and TF2 more than delivers in all facets of game play. TF2 sets the new bar for development in video games, combining great action, good team play and a really entertaining design theme to quite literally steal all the bases for a home run game. I never give a game a ten, but to be honest, to give TF2 anything less would be a flat out lie. Buy it! Expand

It is a very funny game. I like the comicstyle and the mass of classes to choose ;) Every class has it's + and - Also the maps are nicely done! The balancing is quite well but it can be increased a lil bit more. The spawntime is a bit hard with 15seconds but ok, because otherwise the maps would be flooded with players.

The only thing keeping me from giving this game a 9 is the fact that their critical hit system is inperfect and creats a unskillful classic arcadish thing that belongs in a single player rather than multiplayer game. If this was changed along with a lot more different ideas of how to play TF2 besides capture the flag and attack/defend points. Then it would have recieved a 10/10 score from me.

One of the most engaging team action games ever to grace our computer screens, TF2 is perfect fun and dangerously compelling. It has the kind of magnetic appeal that keeps us glued to the game and coming back for more. The character mix is ideal, enabling and encouraging cooperative play; and the rapid respawn permits character change mid-game, making it beneficial to those with a team-view of life. Simply brilliant. Its wacky, silly, twisted, and down right fun every second. Its simple enough that anyone can pick it up a moment's notice and not do too bad but there is a certain level of depth that can keep the veterans on their toes and coming back for more. If there is one game that should get multi-player game of the year, this would take it hands down. As an aside, there is one thing that bugs me, and its not so much the game itself but the way people play it. The game is called "Team Fortress 2" not "im the lone ranger and dont give too poops about anyone around me so im gonna go run around all stupid like". Listen to your teammates, get a strategy (even if its a crude one), and work together people! Expand

This game is AMAZING! Nine years in the making and this is what we get. Team Fortress 2 is everything that TFC should have been and more. The game is less spammy, it is fast paced and the learning curve is set just right so that you can jump in and have fun even if it's your first time playing. The graphics are amazing, you might think it looks too "cartoony" from screenshots, but once you blast someone with a rocket and see their body burst into 20 different pieces and their decapitated head rolls past your feet, your mind will be changed. There's so much more to this game than there was in it's predecessor, the classes are much more balanced, each class having its own weakness and advantage. The only down side I can even begin to think of is that the sounds (bullets hitting a wall, picking up ammo, picking up health) are all the same sounds from the Half-Life games. It is a bit repetitive, and you'd think they'd at least change the sounds of those. But those sounds can probably be changed since Valve has just released the new SDK (the developer kit for making maps, etc). Definitely pick this up, you will not be dissapointed! Expand

This game has an incredible sense of teamwork, strategy, and wild combat. Much better than most console games (namely Halo) in that aspect, and Iove how plain fun the game is, there's no way to, say, de-rank if your team happens to be bad so it's carefree in that sense.

I deffinately like the make over on the graphics while yet preserving the true character of the over all game. I was surprised and even more so that i was able to play my old favorites like well, forte. However, i was rather disapointed that there were no longer grenades and explosives for Hw, Engineer, dissorienting bombs for the spy, etc. I thought that was an important aspect of the characters. It also made a difference in my play as well. My hope is that upon a new or future update, they can reintergrate those into the new version of tfc 2. Expand

Valve really hit the nail on the head with Team Fortress 2. As some may know, the game has changed since TFC and the original TF on quake, but nearly all the changes have somehow helped the overall quality of the game. There is a slight shortage of available maps and a bug or two, but the replayability of most maps is quite high and naturally there will be continual additions to the available library. The game is very well balanced, has an amazing art direction, and has soaked up a lot of my time, which is a quality that maybe 1 out of 12 games have, on average. Expand

Great Sequel to TFC, Ive been playing since it was released on Half-Life and pretty much non stop till then. When I had read that they would be removing grenades I thought the game would suck but after playing it for well over 100 hours i gotta say...if you havent played it...try it...you will love it. Also Nick W. they didnt get rid of feign death because they wanted to add cloak, it was more so that the source engine cant pull off fiegn death because of the physics involved. if you hit a corpse with a rocket it moves and the devs said for some reason that was a problem. My only wish is that they brought SECONDARY grendades back to the game...like conc, scatter, emp, POISON, and nail grens. I agree regular grenades added to much chaos, but the secondary IMO just added more stratagy. Expand

The best as far as class-based PvP goes. It's cartoon style fits the mood of the classes perfectly and the action is fast-paced but not over the top. Good balance between classes. The one minor downside to the game is the lack of novel game modes, even though the game would lend itself to it perfectly.

I have been playing Team Fortress 2 since it became available for download. TF2 has pulled several friends and me back into the world of First Person Shooters. I have mixed feelings about this incarnation of Team Fortress. Key TF game concepts are captured in the class-based system and the requirement for teamwork for success. The re-imaging of the game still gives me chuckles with the cartoon like rendering and the stereotypical casting of the classes… “Who touched Sasha?” The game play is fast but not obnoxious. Player classes seem to be well balanced and those that posses greater skill are often balanced out by the occasional critical to the face. The Medic having the ability to protect other members of the team is a neat twist making him more of a true support class. The engineer is still potent and the sentry gun is well balanced. The spy is mean, the Heavy Weapons Guy is fat, the demo man is Scottish, the sniper is annoying, and the scout can sure play ball with that bat of his. The Soldier is still my favorite and will always be. I do miss grenades, det-packs, and faking death; all were the source of many amusing moments in both tournament and public server play. I still find myself trying to prime grenades and then realize that I am just hitting extra keys. It is a shame that many of the techniques that we used are no longer available to us but I think it was a necessary change to capture a broader audience. So to those script kiddies that depended on scripts to do all of those “cool maneuvers” or for complex jump sequences, it is time to develop real skills and truly become “l33t.” Also, the removal of friendly fire is an interesting choice and it does remove an important element of clan play; determining spies is a bit easier now, as mistakenly shooting a teammate just doesn’t matter. There were also times when teammates could share a concussive blast to push a few players to an objective. The integration of voice communications is a nice feature, but it needs to mature so that those who abuse the system can be muted in public servers. As a game with no history, it is definitely a 10; knowing the origins and weighing expectations would drop the game to a 6. This is why I give it an 8. I am confident that it will have a longer shelf life as long as exploits are resolved quickly so that fair game play is a constant. Expand

Already one of my favorite games of all time. I've played it for maybe 50 hours and I am still hooked. The main pull of the game is the variety. Most FPS games seem 'same-y' to me because they come down to sniping, machine gun/mid-range combat, grenades, and maybe some melee. To me, the distinctness of each of the classes in TF2 elevates it above even the best shooters. Each class is extremely fun to play and necessary for the game. Expand

As a True Gamer i have seen many games, of many Genres. I am a true fanatic of FPS games and find them quite entertaining but this game is quite outstanding, its not not a typical FPS its with a Twist. The 1st Team fortress was a good game with a good idea and i am glad that Valve continued the idea. What I like about his game, it offers a wide viraty of game choices, par examle: if you are a blood raging rusher with a lightning reaction who like to be in he heat of the battle you can choose the Scout who offers high speed movement and high damage (at close range) at the cost of Health, or if you are the crrepy kind (like me) who love conspiracy and 1 hit kills, you will be the spy where you have to get the trust of the enemy and then betrey them with a lightning back stab and then fade into the shadows, or you can just burn them if you feel like it and so on. In my opinnion this game is balaced, has different gameplayes Capture the Flag, Domination, and Defence, to nearelly andbody's need, well the only thing that i would like to see further in Tf2 Would be a Female character, it would make gaming more fun. As an over all i give it a 10 Expand

This game truly shows what happens when time equates quality. The developers at steam took a game from so long ago and turned it into one of the most artistic and strategic games I have ever played. 11 years of development through hundreds of hours of playtests lead to the creation of this totally revamped game. The view is simple; incorporate the character class directly with the personality of the individual which in turn balances the fluency of the gameplay. Removing grenades and limiting classes to 3 types of weapons and furthermore limiting the class to using only that weapon/ability decreases the chances of getting kills outside what the class is designed to do, sounds restricting but its genius compared to other games where the class weapon dominates more then the class itself in a greater range of domination then the class was designed to give, allowing the power to dominate undisputed to every other class rather then keeping it within its range of power and ability. In simpler forms, a very balanced type gameplay. Overall, best game I've played, totally worth more then the asking price. Expand

The cartoonesque characters are beautifully drawn, the taunts encapsulate the splendid humour and the learning curve is perfect for veterans and newbies alike. The varied character class keep this game on the top of my play list and the ability to swap class between frags is tantamount to the longevity of the game. I hope there's further official maps made available soon, because this is one game I'll be coming back to for months. Expand

This comment is interesting: "A C gave it a0: Does not match the old TF... got rid of grenades, faking death, demopacks, and much more. The maps seem to be shorter and the over all feel just leaves me unsatisfied. All these years of waiting for this? I say take it back and maybe in a year or two more you may just have the right stuff." 1. They got rid of grenades because it made all of the characters boring, too similar and too powerful. 2. They got rid of feigning death because of the physics. 3. Demopacks... same reason as grenades. 4. much more? 5. The maps are shorter to create a faster more exciting gameplay. All in All this game beats T.F.C into the ground. both games are good but TF2 is much better. Expand

This FPS is brilliant! An inspiring sequal to TFC! Many people question its difference, but I love them! Having the classes different yet the best they can be to begin with really urges people to play them all and learn them all, instead of mastering one! getting the top score as pyro, medic and soldier make me want to keep trying with every other class! Definatly a keeper and DEFINATELY a game for the whole FPS family! Expand

This is one of the most well designed games in the entire history of gaming. Not only has it brought multi player FPS to perfection, it's fast, it's fun, it is very simple, yet so complex and difficult. The graphics are astounding, as soon as you see another player it only takes a split second before you know exactly what class he is playing and how to react to that. Every strategy can be countered and team play is of the essence if you want to go far. This game is a true 10. Expand

Team Fortress 2 Takes you right into the action, With it's Graphical Superiority compared to many older FPS's. This game deserves a definite 10. Why? For the intense combat forceing you into teamwork, and the superiority in graphics, combat, and a game being without glitches and almost no hackers in the entire game. This game puts your right into the action. It's not a game with just 1 character its a game with many characters and weapons. Also a Succesor to it's fathering game "Team Fortress". Anyone who would say this game is not an advancement to the "world of gaming" would be incorrect. Expand

The game play is fresh and keeps me addicted to it even after 80 hours of play. There are two few original maps, but that will be addressed soon with an upcoming update. That balance is close to perfect on the built in maps but is skewed in third party maps' open areas. So the tight corridors and strategically placed sniping areas keep the action constant and ferocious. If both teams are skilled, there are no stalemates. Expand

Anyone who says this game deserves less than an 8 is lying. This game is everything I've waited for and more. It delivers the fast paced action of TFC with excellent graphics and physics. Not only that but Valve has gone through great lengths to continue to improve the environment of the maps after it's release (for the PC that is), adding details to make the maps more interesting to look at. As someone who's been playing since the beta was released I am impressed with how much it's evolved and grown. Expand

The marriage of highly stylised retro-spy presentation, fresh, high octane action, deep and varied classes and the underlying twinkle of humour in its metaphorical eye make Team Fortress 2 far more than just your average fragfest. Long after the novelty of the graphics wears thin, we are left with a refined and accessible multiplayer game that simultaneously cultivates new players whilst retaining enough depth to accommodate even the hardiest of veterans.
  2. The game also does a lovely job of framing your relationship with other players and nurturing them.
  3. It's one hell of a game. With its powerful artistic style and blazingly quick, yet accessible gameplay, it's enough to melt the icy cynicism imprisoning the hearts of even the most jaded among us. That being said, it's not the most complex shooter out there.
