A good game with some pretty outstanding aesthetic design. [Issue#29, p.52]

A mix of good ideas, but they come off a little half-baked. [Feb 2010, p.59]
  3. The Saboteur can be both addictive and engaging, but also rather stale, all at the same time.

Combat feels clunky and unsatisfying. [Feb 2010, p.72]
  5. Five years ago, The Saboteur would have been lauded for its fresh ideas. Today, the only praiseworthy thing is its out-of-time soundtrack.
  6. As it is, nothing really separates it and makes it unique. Despite the cool setting, this is by the numbers game design that you’ve played a million times before.
  7. The Saboteur was a great concept in an interesting historical period that's deeply broken by bad history, technical issues and poor gameplay choices.

Starts off with a noir-esque style where most of the game is black and white until you slowly gather support and colour a well done Paris and france. The story is not the best and at times will force you a not really good driving mechanic with a race or two. The open world and just messing around with stuff really charms you though. Full Review »

Part Assassins Creed, part Grand Theft Auto...you'll be climbing rooftops, hijacking and collecting cars, shooting and blowing Nazis, and watching burlesque dancers in this open world 3rd person action game set in WWII Paris. The graphics are pretty good, but distant textures get muddy. Still the world looks nice and Paris is pretty big. The game mechanics are very easy to control; driving, shooting, and upgrades are all done well. The game seems to favor ease though so if you want a challenge crank it over normal because I find normal too easy for my taste. Mission vary which include racing, assassinating, and bombing. Outside of the main and side missions there are plenty of things to do to earn contraband, the games currency, to buy gear and level up abilities. My favorite part of this game tho, is that it's mostly in black and white until you "free" a neighborhood which then get colorized showing it's free state. A unique and effect gimmick that adds a great look to the game. This is an excellent game all around. Full Review »
