  • Summary: Garrett, the Master Thief, steps out of the shadows into the City. In this treacherous place, where the Baron’s Watch spreads a rising tide of fear and oppression, his skills are the only things he can trust. Even the most cautious citizens and their best- guarded possessions are not safe from his reach. As an uprising emerges, Garrett finds himself entangled in growing layers of conflict. Lead by Orion, the voice of the people, the tyrannized citizens will do everything they can to claim back the City from the Baron’s grasp. The revolution is inevitable. If Garrett doesn’t get involved, the streets will run red with blood and the City will tear itself apart. Collapse

An excellent stealth game, true to the spirit of the original and at the same time much more modern. Very polished gameplay and a clever difficulty level make Thief a game no stealth fan should miss. The plot and the setting aren't always inspired, but the quality of the content greatly makes up for it.

Not the best brand relaunch ever, but forgetting the great predecessors, it's a decent game of its own. [March 2014]

While it suffers in aspects of level design and uninspired use of Garrett's inventory, Thief delivers a unique stealth experience that lives up to the original game, but not quite.

Maybe the new Thief fails to achieve sufficient amount of depth and alternative paths to satisfy every player, but its stealth gameplay makes this game fun.

Thief is far from the disaster that many feared it would be, and fans who take the time to customise their settings ahead of their first playthrough will find a rewarding world here to pick clean. Nevertheless, it’s still difficult to shake the feeling that, for all his dexterity, Garrett has stumbled in his attempt to gain access to a new generation.

As a Thief, it is a huge disappointment. The extraordinary map design of the series is gone, the story is forgettable and the reboot of Garrett and The City really misjudged. While entertaining as a stealth game, its sins are bigger than its virtues.

The three major strengths of past Thief titles - wide open mission design, sound propagation and narrative - are this game’s biggest weaknesses. That is a fundamental problem it cannot hope to overcome.

Is the first Thief I played, I played for almost 2 hours and loved the atmosphere, the gameplay, everything is perfect . You can choose the difficulty , I chose normal and it's still a little hard to steal things without being noticed, you have to think before what you're doing and keep an eye on the movement of soldiers. The graphics are not spectacular, but they are beautiful. I ran the game with everything max, filters, etc, at 1920x1080 and rolled flat, the FPS ranged between 50 and 60. It took me almost 2 hours to get past the first mission , exploring every corner to steal as much as possible and trying not to be detected, which made me take more. About the negative reviews, including the "big sites", I was not disappointed to read before playing, and now I played I'm not unrepentant, as I said, I loved the game and I recommend for you that enjoy a good first-person stealth game. Ignore the reviews, play and give your own conclusion. That's it. Expand

Absolutely great atmosphere and fun game-play. The story pulls you in immediately and keeps evolving in a very engaging way. I didn't expect this game to the that steam punk'ish but it's a great addition to this medieval-like world. The graphics and sound in the game are absolutely awesome and since the game support the new AMD Mantle API I can run it on "Very High" with high frame rates on my AMD FX-6300/7870 system. Expand

I'm not understanding the bad reviews. I found this game to be as enjoyable as Dishonored. I think a lot of people try to bash reboots of franchises so they can sound "smart" when waxing nostalgic about the old games. Expand

I'm about halfway through playing this game, and I am enjoying it so far. Having played all of the earlier Theif games, I was however, disappointed that they did not get the same voice actor for Garrett. His voice had a wonderful dark sarcastic quality and seemed to give Garrett more life as well as a bit of a sense of humor. In this game, the voice of Garrett is too serious and rather boring. Another element I'm missing is the drunken guards, they were always good for a chuckle in the game. Although, my biggest complaint has to be the worlds that Garrett explore. They are pretty generic looking...making it hard to distinguish one area from another at times. With that being said, I'm still enjoying the game, although not as much as the earlier Thief games. To give you an idea of where I am coming from, I haven't played the previous thief games but I did buy this one based on the great things I had heard about them. I also had some faith in the studio behind it as I had played some of their recent offerings (Deus Ex: Human Revolution).

I actually find the graphics good with the exception of how the whole screen flashes when you move into light, which is excessive and distracting.

The major let down is the character motivations, or rather the complete lack of them after more than a full mission. There are games that have very slow starts as well such as Half-Life 1, but there the time is spent building atmosphere and introducing the world, whereas in thief it's spent crawling around a dingy city stealing silverware because.... money?

I wanted to think the levels became less linear later as the first was probably just a training mission but from what I've read online they stay pretty uninspired throughout.

So in closing, it's not a bad game, it's just a big let down compared to the legacy it represents and is a pale shadow of other recent games like deus ex and dishonored.

A half cup full of 'meh'.

Generally disappointing but there are some occasional saving graces. The UI navigation and control scheme feel clunky; despite running a fairly robust rig and playing on medium settings there are still more than the few odd lags and low framerate spikes. the game play is mostly uninspired with a really lousy combat system (which may be somewhat forgotten or forgiven if you play it as a true stealth-ghost game). the story-line is somewhat bland and the graphics uninspiring (this is not helped by the fact that you usually stay in shadows away from light almost all the time). the game would have been helped if there was a bigger open world/sandbox concept and a little more direction. as it is, it is not a bad a game as some would have you believe but it is far from being a good game either. Ok, the game is not bad, it has a few cool things, it brings a lot of old good stuff. but it have at least 2 things i hate:

    1º Rope arrows
only on pre-scripted places (with QTE), instead that on all wooden surfaces like on THIEF 2

2º cant jump .........., yes on 2013 someone release an FPS game in which the player character CANT JUMP! we are the master thief but we cant jump, ........

Thats DUMB and IDIOTIC, i was waiting this game a lot but these mistakes are too stupid, and so ill be hard on it, add the jump ability and ill probably review it better.
