Honest, hardcore, and truer to the original Fallout vision than certain stillborn “GOTY contenders”, Underrail will absolutely delight RPG purists.

Every single character in this game is a guy with varying levels of drugged on fentanyl, and I adore it

UnderRail shows that classic ideas and mechanics can deliver impressive gameplay results even in an age when even the RPG space tends to lose its identity under the assault of improved graphics and the need to make combat the best way to solve every situation.
UnderRail manages to capture the spirit of the original Fallout even despite its abhorrent UI, heavy focus on combat, unforgiving character development system, and the final chapter which is basically a guide on how not to design a role-playing game.
If not for the Underrail Wiki, it would be all but impossible to complete some quests. The in-game journal keeps track of active quests, but makes no mention of their stages or received hints. Still, the game is good, from nice 2D graphics to challenging tactical combat to sense of exploration when every new location has some surprises in store. [Issue#205, p.56]
Core fans of the first two Fallout games will enjoy Underrail as well as the players who hate the last 15 years of game development. It is a hardcore game that somewhere under the terrible interface and illogical absence of some key elements hides days of traditional post-apocalyptic entertainment.
Underrail is a hard and unpolished game that can challenge and entertain the most hardcore rpg lovers. Casual gamers will find its lack of production values and its unfriendliness completely off-putting.
This game is pure genius. There are interesting and nontrivial quests, colourful description of characters and situations, live dialogues and intriguing plot. The game encourages you to explore its dark secrets. Oh, and the revolutionary non-experience based leveling system is a real a whiff of fresh air. Combat system allows player to deal with a singe encounter in a so many ways. And the atmosphere, jeez. Grim darkness of the post-apocalyptic cyberpunk underground. High tech low life at its finest. This is probably the best turn-based RPG I've ever played since Fallout 2. Highly recommended.

This is the best Fallout inspired RPG out there. One thing that makes this pretty unique from other CRPGs is the emphasis on exploration. The game world is very vertical and very fun to explore. The XP system rewards exploration, the game has some pseudo metroidvania moments and the narrative presents a very interesting mysterious world which motivates you to dig into its guts.

A decent old school RPG that wants to be Fallout, but fails hopelessly. It's average, in a good way, but still average. I mean, yeah, the combat system is nice and there is a lot of decent content, but... how to say it in a correct way and don't hurt anybody, hm... It has no soul. Sounds trivially, I know, but that is what I felt. You see, Fallout had a face - a dirty bearded face of a drug addict who spend most of his free time at the local brothel. In Underrail it seems like nothing happened to the world and people just suddenly decided to go underground. They don't starve, they have power and clean water, they don't die in slavery and I could continue, but I think you got my point. In Fallout 2 one locations such as New Reno provides more unique experience than the entire Underrail game. Not to mention it looks better, dispite the game is 18 years older. Again, after all what I've said, the game is good, it just has nothing special about it.

For it's price on steam, it is worth a try.
However, this game does not hold a candle to Fallout! Do not be fooled!
Story and lore are quite creative and really well done. Attention to detail and good atmosphere once you adjust to the gameplay. Really liked the various weapons and armors/items available to use and find.
The graphics and layout leave something to be **** reminds me of SIM CITY 2000. . the fighting system is just too bland, if this came out in the 90's it would be acceptable.
Also, dialogue was somewhat immersive. Some funny moments too, the quests 50/50 between fun and annoying. Low Level CAP was a killer for me, combat scenarios that depend to much on a lucky roll. Make sure you save! Have like 5 save files in case lol Certain situations the game is done due to a bad save, or you'll have to start over. The overall challenge is good, especially in the beginning a positive.
Would not recommend this game unless you are REALLY desperate for a cheap CRPG that'll kill some time
