  1. For those of you new to the series Warlords Battlecry III has a lot to offer that you won’t find in any other RTS title, and if you like RTS games, there’s a lot to like here. A traditional RPG fan will find lots to love too with the hero driven game play.
  2. 86
Its unique Hero system is fantastic and the gameplay is very addictive.
  3. 80
The depth of races and units in Warlords Battlecry 3 is enough to fill three other lesser RTS games.
  4. With all the different combinations to choose from it is almost certain that no two games would be alike. Some missions are also replayable to let you gain XP quicker to level up your character that much quicker for those harder tasks.
  5. Notwithstanding that we had to penalize the game for the disappointing graphics, the development team did an excellent job on creating a game that you can literally play for the next 2 years and never play the same character twice!
  6. If you're a longtime Battlecry player hoping for a revolutionary improvement, Warlords Battlecry 3 will be a disappointment. But if it's high-quality RTS gameplay you're looking for, it's here in spades.
  7. The range of maps is impressive, though this game is likely to appeal most to Lord of the Rings-loving mythologists.
  8. There are some cool things to do, like level-up and outfit you hero with items, , which I find to be the most endearing part of the series. [Aug 2004, p.106]
  9. It cannot quite compete with the likes of SpellForce: The Order of Dawn, but as a reasonably enjoyable title to fill the void of gaming insomnia, it does merit mild recommendation.
  10. AI and pathfinding issues along with dated graphics prevent Warlords Battlecry III from being a top-tier strategy game. If you can put up with these shortcomings, then you’ll find a lot to like with the game.
  11. 75
As a play-alone game, it's well worth the money, but without even moderately acceptable multiplayer support it's going to have an uphill fight to find a larger audience -- and that's a shame because it deserves better.
  12. A solid real-time strategy game, but it's one that doesn't differentiate itself much from its illustrious predecessors.
  13. Of course, the game improves enough on the past titles in the series that it will appeal primarily to existing fans and they certainly won’t be disappointed.
  14. Warlords Battlecry III is devoid of gimmicks and posturing but offers up good, old fashioned, SOLID, strategy gameplay – which to many is how it should be!
  15. I’m vastly disappointed at this release, like the developers had one surge of creativity for Warlords Battlecry five years ago and have been coasting on fumes since then.
  16. 70
Flawed as it is, the sheer replay value of all the races and classes makes Battlecry III a good value at the bargain game price of $29.99.
  17. Its "average-ness" makes it accessible to newcomers, but hardcore RTS or RPG fans will find there's not enough depth of either genre to keep them interested for more than a few hours.
  18. A huge number of options, but the graphics are dated and the sound effects are monotonous.
  19. It falls back too often on the war weary build-a-base mechanic as its core, but the robustness and depth of the civilization tree will help ensure many hours of gameplay for RTS and series fans alike.
  20. Forget what you learned in previous games, because it won't apply here. [Aug 2004, p.76]
  21. But the game demands that players spend too much effort in the drawn-out process of base construction, which gets repetitive.
  22. Not nearly as good as its predecessor, and in need of patching. [July 2004, p.54]
  23. Overall the story and concept of Warlords Battlecry III is very well presented. However, the lack of an upgraded graphics engine really gave me a sour taste in my mouth.
  24. 60
If your looking for a fantasy filled real-time strategy romp and you can overlook playing in a 2D realm than this may be what you are looking for.
  25. The game's tagline speaks volumes; calling Battlecry III "The original role-playing strategy game" is a fine way of declaring the game's legacy, but at the same time it highlights just how little has really changed since the first title was released. [Aug 2004, p.108]

THE best RTS EVER created, contrary to the other players i belive that the graphics are good and that the main part of an RTS is strategy and gameplay, The main RPG elements in any game are stoyline and depth. All of these rank the best ive ever seen and ive played RTS and TBS games for a sizable fraction of my time for years now, this game is by far the best. Full Review »
