  1. A beautiful action adventure that incorporates a dash of RPG and a dose of fighting game, Eve of Extinction suffers from a dull, weak plot.
  2. 71
Poor sound effects, sometimes misused, uninteresting music, bad voice acting, merely decent graphics, the same enemies over and over again, only seven and a half hours of gameplay, and the game still manages to be fun.
  3. Enemies should have been varied, the game should have been longer, the complaints go on and on, yet EOE can still prove to be fun.
  4. Because the combo system doesn't play a major role in the game due to the AI being brain dead, the game dies out rather quickly and many will get instantly bored with the title.
  5. The enemy AI is so poor that fighting becomes repetitive . . . and boring.
  6. It left a bad taste in my mouth.
  7. I went from disliking the lack of depth in EOE, to enjoying all the extras, to getting fed up with the control flaws; all in the span of one sitting. [Apr 2002, p.74]
  8. A goofy, good-looking fighter, with a definite challenge to dexterity but devoid of any real depth, especially geared to those who enjoyed the Anytown urban cinescapes of "The Matrix."
  9. There's a ridiculous amount of flickering and billions of jaggies per square inch. There's also a small amount of slowdown when there are a lot of enemies on screen as well as some background animations.
  10. With its main story mode clocking in at around five hours, there's little long-term replay value.
  11. Most shocking of all Eve Of Extinction doesn’t even offer a multiplayer mode. This is practically a crime in this kind of game.

A good brawler disguised as a bad one, and it takes some time to get to the fun underneath.
  13. If Yukes would have had the sense to tone down the enemy encounters...Eve of Extinction could have been better than merely good. [Apr 2002, p.60]
  14. It's a modified "Fighting Force" with a little thought behind it, but it is also hamstrung by controls that are less than intuitive.
  15. Like most outings with the little lady, this one gets tired, but ample eye candy—and violence—ensure that Eve is one traditional kiss good night that occasionally slips you the tongue.
  16. Decent, but it should have been incredible. [May 2002, p.30]
  17. The classic damsel in distress tale takes a sci-fi twist and then falls flat on its face.
  18. Simple graphics, awkward camera angles, dumb enemies, limited animation, and some questionable control decisions undermine an interesting fighting system peppered with some role-playing aspects and flashes of Matrix-style action.
  19. Nothing really stands out in EOE, I had to force myself to finish it; nothing compelled me to do so.
  20. The controls – coupled with the awful camera – hold it back as a whole. [May 2002, p.100]
  21. The smashing of heads and delivery of pain is fun, but is ultimately undermined by the awful camera and limited gameplay.
  22. If trudging your way through uninspired level after level, button bashing through a bunch of mindless drones to finish up with some of the most unimaginative bosses in videogames history is your idea of fun then go for it.
  23. With its bleak environments, surreal plot and button mashin' gameplay, Eve of Extinction is one big mess. [May 2002, p.106]
  24. A game that could've been so much more has turned into a pile of... well, crap.
  25. There is nothing about the game's style that particularly stands out; it has a decidedly generic feel.
  26. There's just no way around it, the camera is terrible and contributes to making this game’s fun factor go way down.
  27. The idea is good; a sort of modern weapons-based update to the old-school brawler genre, but the implementation is poor, riddled with camera and control issues, resulting in a less than enjoyable game.
  28. 35
A decent little action game to pass the time away, but only if you're desperate.

I liked it the best because to get the full effect you have to play the game again and again to achieve full completion.
