  1. It will mostly appeal to hardcore fans of snowboarding and those who enjoyed the first version...it is the most realistic snowboarding game currently available for the PS2.
  2. A veritable avalanche of gameplay options.
  3. Practically an RPG in and of itself, I liked how unique and replayable [the snowboarder mode] was.
  4. While this game is incredibly deep in a lot of areas, it falls just short in delivering an addictive must have snowboarding title.
  5. My biggest complaint about snowboarder mode is the process required to sign up for contests, as it seems too tedious when you're just getting started with the game.
  6. The learning curve is still frustrating, and control of in-air rotation (particularly in flips) is sluggish. [Feb 2002, p.42]
  7. Graphically, Winter X is sufficient, but the gameplay is just pretty blah. [Mar 2002, p.79]
  8. it's no SSX Tricky or Shaun Palmer, but it has a great look and some daunting challenges.
  9. While Konami has toned down the simulation elements of Winter X-Games Snowboarding 2002 so that it will appeal to a broader audience, the challenging controls and plodding snowboarder mode will turn off all but the most ardent snowboarders.
  10. I see the 2002 version as losing what was decent enough control in the original, but surpassing it in every other way.
  11. The game boasts some delightful hi-resolution 1080 Snowboarding on-crack graphics, and a fantastic create-a-player mode. [Mar 2002, p.139]
  12. Is this what real snowboarding is like? Because if it is, I don't want any part of it. [Feb 2002, p.106]

The game features physics that wouldn’t be caught dead in a Bugs Bunny cartoon.
  14. No matter what type of game you are looking for, the control takes some getting used to.

I can't wait to go home and play this game. The "snowboarder mode" is the so sick. Gameplay is groundbreaking b/c you can change the axis of your rotation in mid air to add tons of style to a slow rolling 5s. This is the best extreme game out.....yes better than TH3 or 4. Full Review »

I'm a snowboard instructor and have been boarding for 3 years now, I got all the snowboard games on PSOne and ps2 and this one is the most realistic of 'em all. The only thing it needs is longer free ride courses but other than that it's the nuts. Full Review »
