  1. Its control, ambient life, longevity, and evolving gameplay will captivate you, no matter how obscure you find the core subject matter to be. [Mar 2003, p.82]
  2. 82
It's laidback, good-natured, and a fine example of the quirky game design that only the Japanese seem to deliver.
  3. 80
Despite its impressive depth, this game is no masterpiece... But if you find yourself intrigued by its premise, there’s enough quality adventuring here that it can almost become an obsession.
  4. The game is ultimately too stripped-down and simplistic to warrant a higher score; a more engaging surface world, compelling storyline and ambitious gameplay would have driven the final tally up considerably.
  5. One of the most refreshing games I've played all winter. I didn't say it was the best, but if you're getting a little bored of dungeon crawling, shooting and fighting, then consider Everblue 2 as your winter vacation.
  6. Everblue 2 has terrific diving scenes, and you may find yourself enjoying that aspect over and over while forgetting about the actual missions, but tries to blend them into a story that is not that solid nor well told.
  7. Everblue 2 contains a strong sense of adventure, as you explore the unknown, but also fear of what you might exactly find out there.
  8. I literally fell asleep 15 minutes into my first "exciting" mission of taking pictures of fish, so that should tell you something. But stick with it, and you may find yourself inexplicably drawn in. [Mar 2003, p.116]
  9. Its originality, however, is offset by a sometimes lackluster presentation and the occasionally repetitive nature of its gameplay.
  10. What keeps the title afloat is collecting items, snapping pictures, and building up your character. It actually becomes mildly addictive. [Mar 2003, p.103]
  11. 57
It fails to create a captivating story, anything more than moderately interesting characters, and the game interface on land is just silly.
  12. 56
It is very short and even those that do enjoy it will most likely be left wanting more.
  13. The jarring switch between graphical adventure and actual gameplay is so distinct, Everblue 2 ultimately feels like a half-baked minigame. [Mar 2003, p.67]
  14. The sum of its parts are overshadowed by low production values, shallow story, lacking gameplay structure, and poor character development.
  15. If you really, really want a diving game, this is as good as it’s likely to get. You shameless little weirdo.
  16. Everblue 2 does a nice job of being strange. Unfortunately, it does a poor job of being fun.
  17. 42
Flat, uninspired, and generally unenjoyable. [Mar 2003, p.47]
  18. 40
The repetitious gameplay, in conjunction with the prehistoric technology, creates a package that few will appreciate.
  19. A valiant attempt at creating a serene and relaxed scavenger hunt.
  20. The objectives are just too mundane for most people to care. Everblue 2 will only please you if you absolutely love treasure hunting.
  21. The storyline features such ridiculous contrivances as diving to find the ingredients to make aspirin for someone's grandmother, who has back pain. Ugh.

Excellent game and highly underrated. The graphics are better than most and it's the most unique game I've found so far. If Excellent game and highly underrated. Great great game, for those who are not caught up in hype and graphics, also for those looking for a time waster, and a fun one at that. This Great great game, for those who are not caught up in hype and graphics, also for those looking for a time waster, and a fun one at that. This also is only a game for those with a brain, as sometimes you have to do more than just click buttons like the games people have grown accustomed to. Not only do you do a bit of detective work, but you also have to do some puzzles at times. Full Review »
