  • Summary: With all-new "open passing," you have more control and precision than ever before. Find a breaking forward with a perfect 40-yard ball into open space, embarrass the tightest defense with cunning one-twos, or fool any keeper with deep swerving crosses. [Electronic Arts]

An absolutely gorgeous game, packing in fantastic animations, lavish player models, and stadiums with cool details like flags waving in the stands.
  2. The result is a next generation soccer game that is enjoyable to play and more importantly, an accurate simulation of how the game is actually played by the pros.

It still has some ways to go before it replaces Konami's series ["ISS Pro Evolution"] in the hearts and minds of many soccer diehards, but as is FIFA Soccer 2002 is a splendid soccer title.
  4. Fifa 2002 certainly isn’t as bad as last year’s version, but when push comes to illegal slide tackle, it’s not a great deal better and still doesn’t even come close to "ISS PE1" let alone "ISSPE2" in terms of realism, depth, and fun-factor, and both of those games are for the PSOne!

I don't even like soccer, and yet this game rocks!

This game is much better than 2001 but one huge flaw in the game is the referee. The linesman tends to flag players before being involved in active play when the possibility of that player getting the ball is not very good. EA needs to remember one thing: PARTICIPATION!! Another bad thing about the referee is his inability to assess tackles correctly. Obvious and late tackles are rewarded simply with a foul when a caution is the very minimum. Also the tackling is made way to hard, albeit I really do like the fact that there is no "foul" button I find it increasingly hard to deliver a bone crunching tackle when I need it most. But these little niggles of the game are simply overcome by the fantastic new gameplay which may not be perfect comes much closer than ever before. Expand

It's a bad bad representation of the beautiful game. A complete bastardization of the sport, makes a nice coaster for your beer though. Comparisons to Konami's WE6 are unfair, EA better stick to hockey. ps. The graphics are also c-r-a-p. Expand
