Harvest Moon gets under your skin that way. You'd never think it would be half as much fun as it inevitably turns out to be...Take our word for it and give this one a try.
  2. Of all the Harvest Moon games, Save the Homeland easily has the most solid storyline.
  3. Immersive and fun. It's not the type of game you play to beat as fast as you can. It's the kind of game you'll play a little bit every week, for many, many weeks to come.

Easily the best Harvest Moon yet. [Jan 2002, p.222]

    Delightfully open-ended. [Dec 2001, p.164]

Fans of the series may be puzzled by a few missing features.

It's fun for a while, but let's face some facts here – farming is a job, not a game! [Dec 2001, p.93]
  8. A simplified interface and a stronger focus on plot may alienate some fans of previous games in the series, but there’s an outside chance it will broaden the appeal to a wider audience.

I'm writing a Zero out of Ten review not because i think it's that bad but because I don't want Save the Homeworld to get that much sales. If you look at a lot of the high reviews they talk about the graphics, but the game only gives you a modicum of capabilities. You only play for 1 year, instead of 3 like in other games, you can't get married, there's hardly any minigames and even if there were, why would it matter if you're only playing for a year...

I feel like the people who love Save the Homeland they either liked it for the graphics (I.E. review is over a decade old) or they liked it because it was their first. Overall I'd rate the game about a 6 with most Harvest Moons being a 7-9. I might even go as low as 5. But just as a game overall it's too limiting for me to recommend or care about.

I'd write a better more detailed review for this game, but it's been so many years since I've played it, and I hated the game back then that it's mostly a blur.

It's relatively solid, yet it brutally murders the open-ended gameplay that made its predecessors so very fun. It was my first HM game. It's relatively solid, yet it brutally murders the open-ended gameplay that made its predecessors so very fun. It was my first HM game. I then tried out A Wonderful Life, and guess what? It didn't remove the stupid time limit, but at least it gave you more time to work with. That's this game's main flaw: there's no time to have fun. You MUST get your goals done before the end of winter. It's nice otherwise, though. Full Review »

Its really fun but what's the point of this game in the end ?? Would be even funner if there we're options when you're doneIts really fun but what's the point of this game in the end ?? Would be even funner if there we're options when you're done with the nine endings. Like get married, move to another town and buy more stuff !! Oh yeah, what's with the big empty spot in front of the farmer shop ? I thought maybe u could open youre own store or something.Harvest moon doesnt have alot of options which makes it pointless in the end. Full Review »
