  1. Sure, they might be a little dated. Sure, you’ve played this sort of thing before. You still won’t find a better pure action experience anywhere.
  2. Some golden oldies should never die, and all of these Metal Slug titles fall into the category of "should-never-be-forgotten."
  3. Beyond the surface, you'll find a set of imaginative and extremely well-developed ports of games that did very well in other countries, but didn't get the recognition in this part of the world that they deserved.

Aside from a few minor grievances, Metal Slug Anthology serves up one of the finest videogame compilations ever created and is without question worthy of a place in anyone's collection.
  5. Check your 2D-hating attitude at the door, and lock and load to experience the absolute pinnacle of a genre.
  6. It may be unusual, insistent on clinging to a long-gone gaming era, and incredibly hard at times, but by including every major Metal Slug game, is without doubt one of the finest platform shooter titles yet released.
  7. Bright, colorful graphics, varied settings, powerful weapons, huge bosses and all the frantic action that made these games sweet in the old days comes together in Metal Slug Anthology as a must-own for shooter fans.
  8. Metal Slug Anthology is already a tremendous deal for your money, and it's definitely worth checking out for anyone into chaotic old school mayhem. The Playstation 2 version is also the best one for your money, since it isn't hampered by the control or loading issues of the other ports.
  9. Even though the PSP and Wii versions weren’t great, the PS2 version of Metal Slug Anthology shows just how fantastic retro game collections can be.

Even with a severe lack of extras this package is a must own for fans of classic shooter action. MS Anthology is a perfect example of a forgotten truth about gaming that this medium is intended to be fun and nothing else.
  11. The breakneck action of SNK's playfully over-the-top arcade shooter series still shines on the PS2, and it makes for a value-packed compilation.
  12. Metal Slug anthology is not a game to complete and then toss away either. It has a potentially unlimited replayability as well, which is emphasised by the lack of saving and pausing. It is immediate, and always ready. Recommended.
  13. 79
As a true collection of the Metal Slug series, the PS2 version stands tall above the rest, as it houses the shortest load times, allows for full arcade stick support, and performs at a faster, slicker rate than its PSP and Wii buddies.
  14. Official Playstation 2 Magazine UK
    Bargain. [Aug 2007, p.85]
  15. Play UK
With seven Metal Slug games on one disc and all for under 30 quid this anothology is definitely worth picking up. [Issue#154, p.90]
  16. PSM3 Magazine UK
There's no denying that it's repetitive, but it retains its arcade-style toughness. [July 2007, p.84]

Full Review »
